Half A Million Goals – For The Oldest League In The World Sportingodds In the country that invented the beautiful game, a special milestone is about to be achieved. English League Football is about to witness it’s 500,000th goal. The new season begins on Saturday 5th August. So far there have been 499,855 goals in over 100 seasons of football since the league began in 1888. Sportingodds.com have marked the occasion by offering prices on which team will score the 500,000th goal. Sportingodds spokesman Alan Alger said: “Premiership teams all feature at huge odds, but that’s mainly because the smaller clubs begin their leagues two weeks before”. “We anticipate that the winning goal will probably be scored sometime on Tuesday 8th of August, when the smaller clubs will be playing their second round of games.” Joint favourites to score the goal are Crystal Palace and Swindon Town who both have home games to look forward to on the 8th. Wolves feature at 33/1 and would be fitting winners as they have scored the most goals in English League football with a tally of 7,021. Closely followed by Manchester United on 7,013 and Liverpool on 6,939.
