Title: The thing that has pleased you most in pre-season?
Post by: sonic youth on Thursday, August 3, 2006, 16:01:22
now pre-season is all but out the way and the season starts fo' sho', what event/signing/moment of this pre-season has given you the most satisfaction?

i've been harping on for the past few years on this board and thisis that we need a solid midfielder, somebody to sit in front of the back four, get stuck in, work hard and keep things simple.

now we've got wise and evans and possibly even paul ince. it's just a shame we didn't put in a bid for patrick veira, he left juve on the cheap.

Well football wise, I'd say it coming to an end, I hate pre-season bores me sensless.

The club’s rejuvenation off the pitch.

I’ve not been to any pre-season so I’ll leave the football side of it all off the menu but the noises, positive forward thinking coming out of the club has been quite simply different class.

Everything from the official statements to the professional way the transfers have all been conducted is in complete contrast to 12 months ago.

Getting Bill Power off the pitch to run things could be the most significant thing as I feared the club would fold when the CVA is due. I guess that was before pre-season though.

Pre-season. It has to be the professionalism. It seems we are being prepared properly for the new season in terms of training. Iffy took a massive step up in this from Kingy, but Wisey has taken it to the next level altogether.

Also a big name at the club means maintained levels of season ticket holders following relagation.

On the pitch - fitrness/sharpness should mean we come out the blocks running. A consistant system of playing will help. Was nice we tried toplay it around rather than hoofball but preseason games mean nothing really.

Id agree with that along with Ricky Shakes work levels, fitness and development in comparison to how he was last season.

i'm concerned about your new obsession with ricky - ccp too simple for you now?  :D

everyone's spot on (except janaage) so far, the difference is truly incredible.

I have a lot of respect for Ricky and encouragement. Him and CCP dropped from Bolton to Swindon under poor management and in a club that seriously needed rejuvenating.

With Wise's new encouragement I think Ricky will flourish and I can see the difference in him already.

On the quiet I am excited about the progress, but it all counts for nothing if we can't sort it out on the pitch results wise.  So I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

And to be fair it was a fucking hard exam.

Confidence
Organisation
Onibuje not being too shit
Weston - ace
Simplicity

Shakes looks no different to last year. He still lacks any kind of quality. I'm also a little concerned with Monkhouse. So in all, its wingers i'm slightly worried by.

There is nothing to fear! ( Chris Rea) . We have Wise.

As it happens, my verses have been published in the local rag, and some blues songs attempted on my piano. Hope that an STFC blues will not be needed this season.

I love the fact that Wise has come in and is running things SO much more professionally than in previous years as far as I can see. He would appear to be the utlimate professional and I welcome him and his uber professional approach 8)

I think his treatment of Christian has been absolutely top drawer and I think we will reap the rewards of that pretty soon.

I know the proof of the pudding is in the eating (Reg!) but I am buzzing.  I am feeling good about my team and that's all I ask for 8)

I knew things were on the up when a certain Mr D came back to the club. If it wasn't for him Bill Power may never be here, and Dennis Wise may never have been manager.

Its nice to see so much happiness at the club. The fans are confident, and everything (that we know of) is being done correctly for a change. I jst hope we don't get let down by the players throughout the season.

Players looking fit and up for it. And passing to people in red. All of these have been sadly missing during the season, never mind pre-season.
