But, to be a part of the discussion, I do love pork & leek, or pork & apple.
But I am also quite partial to Richmond Irish sausages

Walls microwave efforts, not bad at all.

Basic but fairly decent quality sausage especially for a microwave jobbie.  Plus you can eat them cold, which for the ultimate lazy man is an absolute treat.

Can’t beat a quality Butcher made special though.  My local does a chilli variant, which is spicey to the taste without being to overpowering.

pork and leek are lovely but there again so are beef and summer lightning , Richmond are lush cooked on a Bar B Q . In fact i fancy some sausages right now !

A decent chilli sausage is a beautiful thing.  Ginginho, although a higher intellectual plain is a desirable notion, I remain deep down a good old fashioned lover of meat.  (I'm sure there will be at least one Doore is gay joke to follow...)

But it's nowhere near as good as a good rare steak, cooked in a few seconds on a bbq.

I'm addicted to sausages at the moment, what with it being BBQ season. I find a nice honey and mustard offering is irresistable, as is the classic Cumberland.

has to be butcher's quality, or at least a decent standard of sausage, otherwise you're just eating face meat.

eyeholes, earholes and arseholes are the main ingredients of common sausages.

merguez: long thin lamb sausages with loads of chilli in them, stick at least three in a burger bap at once.  They are also handy if you happen to be hosting a middle east peace conference at your barbeque as they contain no pork and should therefore be able to satisfy most violent nutcases, regardless of religious persuasion.

Anyone ever tried the veggie Quorn sausages?

I bought a pack purely by mistake and while there is no comparison at all to real meat as an alternative dish they're not bad at all.

If you bung them in a toad in the hole and cover with gravy, then they're edible....just about.

I used to like venison sausages from Sainsburys, but haven't seen any for a while...or in Tesco, the fact I don't go very often to either may be the reason.

I don't think you can beat a home made beefburger though.

Pure steak mince, bit of diced onion, season with a little salt & pepper, bind with an egg and you're laughing.

One thing I can actually be bothered to cook from scratch.

Without wanting to soud like a Carry On Film here but do you not like the taste of meat at all Bennett?

The handful of veggies I know all admit to at least missing chicken or roast beef.

I'm sure I've read something about a veggie black pudding recently. Think it might have been in the good food magazine or something. They went along the lines about how they were pretty skeptical about it but it was actually really nice.

The thing about black pudding is that the shit stuff tastes like poo. Has to be of a reasonable standard and it's the nicest thing in the world. Especially with a little mustard.

And they do mail order - dazza you're a fucking star.

Woohooo! A few days of anticipation followed by the inevitable disappointment of any keenly awaited "fantasy become reality" awaits.

Obviously it's going to be nasty and not a patch on the real thing, but then it's been nigh on 20 years since I've had a real black pud so tbh will I notice? And it can't be any worse than the various "turns to cardboard in 10 seconds, will stab you in the roof of the mouth in 20" veggie bacons on the market.

Bring it on!

Pork and chilli sausages from the butcher's in Cricklade are truly fantastic....Also quite partial to beef and red wine ones (can't remember where from though).

And proper homemade burgers are definitely up there with sausages (pre-bought burgers are just nasty)....so worth the mess and effort!

Best sausages ever. For a BBQ asked the butcher for 60 sausages and he did 8 types or something. So we asked him to put an even selection of all 8 types into one big bag unlabelled.

Thus BBQ Lucky Dip. Spent most of your time eating a sausage trying to work out what was in it. Best BBQ ever (and we set fire to the shed!)

I love this debate for its inanity.  I must now pose the ultimate question.  If you absolutely had to give up bacon or sausages, which would you lose?  No answers involving vegetarian meat products please as it is a contradiction in terms.  e.g.  Vegetarian bacon;  Bacon comes from a pig.  If it does not come from a pig, it is not bacon.  Same goes for any vegetarian meat.  Its a load of crap, and linguistically poor.  What do vegetarians eat all the time?

Between bacon and sausages, I'd pick sausages. The variety wins it for me, hands down. And if you buy quality, you won't get any off-putting gristly bits.
