I dunno, what do you reckon? Sounds like he could be decent once he gets fully fit. Does this mean Ince has knocked us back or are we still in the hunt? Title: Evans signs! Post by: PHIL!!!! on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 10:38:11 Hopefully we still have enough funds/space to squeeze Ince in, but we now do have: Wise, Poyet, Whalley, Pook, Weston and Evans to fill that centre midfield role....Granted, Wise and Poyet wont play that often, but that still leaves us with 4 other centre mids....Plus other players like Gurney, Platt etc can play there too....
Title: Evans signs! Post by: Ginginho on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 10:47:05 Evans needs to improve his fitness first and foremost, he looked very fat against Reading.

If we are to sign Ince then i think Poyet wont feature at all this season and Wise will only play if desperate. Whalley is out for 2 months at least don't forget. Once Evans gets himself up to finess the way the rest of the team have then he could be a decent signing. Title: Evans signs! Post by: Batch on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 10:52:37 To me this spells the end of any hope to sign Ince, which is a shame obviously.
Title: Evans signs! Post by: Danjackson10 on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 10:55:43 Ince will be brought in, but only in a coaching role!FACT 8)

Ergo, TOSH 8) Title: Evans signs! Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 11:00:14 i think Ince is on his way tbh. looks an OK signing but he does need to get fitter. looked average against the plastic scum

Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 11:05:15 Evans has a decent pedigree and is defo the sort of thing we need, but he looked way short of fitness on Saturday......could be Gareth Whalley mark 2.
Title: Evans signs! Post by: red macca on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 11:08:23 wise will get him fit and i hope he will be a usefull addition to the squad..its good that we are starting to get cover in this area as it is definatly a area where we have suffered for a long time now
still need another wide man imo Title: Evans signs! That's an understatement. He got done several times - not just for pace but for sharpness on the ball - and badly needs to get fit. I'm not convinced this is a good signing. Reckon he'll spend most of the season in the reserves to be honest. Title: Evans signs! As the manager at STFC, you're limited by finance to gamble on this type, at least its only a year. Title: Evans signs! Fat and experienced like that one Rooney liked to nobble. In all seriousness it’s another experienced head and another addition to the squad. If he can get himself back to a level he was at before he was injured then we’ll be laughing. Title: Evans signs! Post by: OOH! I would have expected them to spend two weeks getting him somewhere vaguely resembling match fit before making a decision. Title: Evans signs! Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 11:23:49 I noticed on Sat that he is a talker and was trying to organise, which I feel is exactly what we need.....but you need a bit more than just that.
Reminds me of when Gorman signed Fuckwit, because he was a good talker, recall him coming on v Newcastle...waddling around somewhere in front of the back four, holding conversations with any red shirts nearby like a housewife over the garden fence on washday... The Magpies just streamed past him Maradona style and set up chance after chance for Andrew Cole all of which he hilariously spurned, though the frame of the goal took a pounding. Title: Evans signs! Title: Evans signs! Post by: red macca on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 11:24:45 tactically and ability wise he has obviously impressed both wise and poyet.and seeing how fit they have got the rest of the squad im confident they can get him fit

Classic Reg :o made my lunch! Title: Evans signs! Post by: Luci on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 11:30:49 I think that when fully fit he will be a very good signing. Hes only played a handful of games in the last 12 months so theres a limit to how fit hes going to be straight away. Look how different last seasons squad look fitness wise in a relatively short space of time.
Title: Evans signs! Post by: DV on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 11:36:45 not convinced by him......
how long is the deal, is it a year or is it short term like Fola's 3 months? Title: Evans signs! Post by: OOH! not sure what to make of this, doesn't neccesarily mean the ince move is dead in the water although my first thoughts were that evans is the alternative to ince. i should imagine there's still some room in the wage budget for ince though. regardless, once he gets fit i think he could be a good signing - he's got a good pedigree at this level, experienced and there's nothing to indicate he's lost his ability. Title: Evans signs! Post by: SwindonStevo on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 12:31:48 dont think he will play at all to be honest, a bit of a pointless signing.

Title: Evans signs! Post by: Batch on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 14:18:39 Exactly. Thought he was fairly poor on Sunday but clearly unfit too. I'll reserve judgement until he has had a month at fat camp.

Post by: ibelieveinmrreeves on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 19:14:47 The signing hasn't got me shouting from the rooftops (for one, getting on the roof is too much like hard work). In fact, his appearance on saturday didn't exactly fill me with uncontrolable excitment. However, I have faith in Wise (& Poyet), and if he deems Evans worthy of a years contract, then I'm content.
Until he has a bad game  . Title: Evans signs! Post by: Kinky Tom on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 19:21:09 There's probably appearance fees in the contract, with the basic wage being reansonably low - if he proves himself then he gets paid accordingly.
Title: Evans signs! Post by: Mark Hanrahan on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 19:54:12 He's only had 45 mins in a pre-season friendly agains Prem opposition. How can you judge him on that?! His pedigree (just ask Brentford fans) is outstanding. We've got a coup on our hands here once he's fit... fact.

Title: Evans signs! Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 22:23:50 The descriptions so far are suggesting to me that he could be a 'Kevin Watson with attitude' type player.
Which is probably a good thing I would say. In other words, a 'cultured' Darren Bullock or Scott Leitch. Accurate or not? Help me out here  Title: Evans signs!
