Title: Italian Match Fixing appeals Post by: timmyg on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, 20:41:42 Milan must be made up. Their only real rivals for the title (Sorry Ultra) relegated and they're still in the Champions League. Job done.
It's absolutely farcical really. As Blackcurrant says: Why bother in the first place? What about Genoa? Or Bologna? Or the 2 clubs that were relegated, then re-instated and now relegated again despite 4 clubs being found guilty of match-fixing? (I know they are also currently being investigated, but at the moment they are still innocent...) Fucking joke. It's really pissed me off. I was pissed off with the original punishments too, but this really is taking the piss. Title: Italian Match Fixing appeals Post by: timmyg on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, 21:13:08 ta,Tom. Although I really do think that Roma will be a force to be reckoned with in Serie A this year. They're assembling a very good side.
How can Genoa (who were found guilty of fixing ONE match which would have seen them promoted to Serie A) be relegated to C1 (effectively 2 divisions), while Milan are given an 8-point penalty? It stinks. And how can Juve (who were found guilty of fixing matches/influencing the referees consistently through 2 fucking years!) only get relegated one division? It really, REALLY gets my goat and it sends out the message that it's almost acceptable to do this kind of thing. Title: Italian Match Fixing appeals Post by: blinkpip on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, 22:27:30 It would destroy watching Italian football without the top teams. Roma against Lazio games are brilliant to watch.

Title: Italian Match Fixing appeals Post by: Devon Red on Wednesday, July 26, 2006, 12:52:08 As I said in another post the small teams are always dealt with very harshly I feel. Makes you wander if the people who made these decisions/appeal decisions are corrupt too. Maybe a bit naive on my part but wouldn't suprise me seeing as it seems a massive part of Italian football
Title: Italian Match Fixing appeals Post by: Doore on Wednesday, July 26, 2006, 12:59:46 I thought the same thing Devon Red. Corruption runs through Italian life, not just football. Has anyone read The Miracle of Castel Di Sangro? Its by an American who spends a year with a small club in Italy who made it up to Serie B. He encounters corruption in Italian football. Everyone knows about it. They called it Il Sisteme, obviously meaning the system. Basically, money talks, and the big clubs will always run the game, as most people just accept that this is the way it is. Shame, but thats the way it works.

Fantastic book, and it just shows that this sort of thing is endemic in italian football. Its only that Moggi was stupid enough to get caugh and drag the other teams in too. Know one knew a thing about this match fixing. Moggi only got caught on the back of phone taps put in place to try and dig dirt on the alledged doping of players at Juve Title: Italian Match Fixing appeals Post by: Scot Munroe on Wednesday, July 26, 2006, 16:06:58 Milan may still be banned from competing in next season’s Champions League by UEFA, reports on Wednesday are suggesting.
Although the Rossoneri were last night re-instated into the competition following their Calciopoli appeal, UEFA could still decide to not accept their entry. It’s understood that the European game’s footballing body will hold an emergency meeting on Thursday to discuss their options. “The meeting has been set up to take a decision on Italy’s participants for European competition during next season,” a UEFA spokesman is quoted as saying on numerous Italian websites. Last season’s League table suggested that Juventus, Milan, Inter and Fiorentina would take part in the 2006-07 European Cup competition. However, as a result of the match-fixing verdicts, Inter and Roma will go directly into the competition, leaving Milan and Chievo to pre-qualify. UEFA do have the power to decline a club entry into their competitions as William Gaillard, their head of communications, has previously outlined. "Who plays in the European competitions will be up to the UEFA committee,” he underlined. "In the past, the committee have made exceptions by preventing clubs from taking part in European competitions. Marseille were one case in 1993.'' The then Champions League holders, who beat Milan 1-0 in the 1993 Final, were thrown out of the competition after they were found guilty of match-fixing in the French League.
