Title: Brownlie Post by: sonic youth on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 22:28:04 scored another 2 tonight, that's 4 goals in 3 games - anyone else think he's worth a punt?
i really do like the look of him, still convinced it was his hattrick on saturday but never mind. he's a finisher in the same way that parkin was, lethal and predatory, something i don't think peacock or roberts are. sign him up! Title: Brownlie Post by: Dazzza on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 22:42:31 Definitely worth a punt and as you say SY given pre-season form and all would be a crime not to with his finishing.
Must admit despite that corker against Gijon a few years back I wasn't entirely convinced given that he's had more trials than an entire block on Scrubs but he looks to be doing the business, unlikely to break the bank and will be a handy ace in the pack. Out of interest can anyone add to the list of clubs he’s been on trial or short term deals with? Swindon x 2 Oxford Queensland Roar (Where some Australian twat had the nerve to claim his nickname was Donkey) Oxfrod Tranmere Oldham Grimsby (April this year!) Title: Brownlie Post by: flammableBen on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 22:44:42 With a few league clubs on the list of trials then it's easy to go the gloom and doom route and wonder if theres something about the bloke behind the scenes - lazy in training, just a bit of a twat etc.
I'm not gonna do that though. I say sign him up. Was definitely a hat-trick. Absolutely positive on that one too. If he signs it'll be interesting who will make the starting 11. Title: Brownlie Post by: Batch on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, 08:25:48 It was a hatrick, but Lucas scored the third for him. I'm doubly trebly positive no returns on that.
I'd like to see Brownlie play against better opposition than Ibiza and Ciren. But i am sure wise knows whether he is good better than what we have (Lucas et al) Title: Brownlie Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, 08:48:03 He's a striker, he's scoring goals... Therefore sign him up!

Title: Brownlie Post by: Simon Pieman on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, 11:06:40 I remember Parkin's pre-season. He was scoring quite a few against poorer opposition. The point about those types of (predatory) players is if they get a sight on goal, can they score from it? If yes, then they're doing the job well.
Title: Brownlie Post by: sonic youth on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, 11:49:12 my thoughts exactly si pie, regardless of the opposition if they're scoring goals they're worth a punt i reckon.
i would like to see him against palace though. In my book if we get a striker in he has to be able to challenge/compliment Roberts and 'cock rather than bit part Charlie Griffen/Lloyd Oparah role. We have enough youngsters for that. Keep forgetting we have the tall bloke for 3 months though! Title: Brownlie Post by: DV on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, 11:53:28 Depends what he is after, a short term deal would be worth it....then if he cant hack it against better oposition no harm down.
Seems to be scoring for fun, but must admit my first impressions were 'usless' after the FGR game...seems he has been much better ever since Title: Brownlie Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, 18:39:33 i think we should snap him up

Title: Brownlie Post by: DMR on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, 21:22:16 Am I the only one whose not getting excited about goals against Cirencester and a team of waitors?
The only half creditable opposition- FGR- made him look useless. Title: Brownlie Post by: Bennett on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, 21:24:33 i don't think anyone player particularly well against FGR so can't really judge. the fact he seems to be able to tuck the ball away is something we lacked last year

The only half creditable opposition- FGR- made him look useless. he looked far from useless, although he looked far from brilliant as well. nobody stood out against fgr either, as bennett says. the game itself was mainly about getting some match fitness, sharpness and avoiding getting injured (unless you're fo-THUD-la). i'm not saying he's going to be the next big thing, i just feel that he's worth a contract as i think he could do a job. |
