At first I thought you meant the Nic Roeg documentary of the first Glastonbury...which is mighty fine, I was there... about as hippy dippy as you can get.

Are you seen on camera Reg?

You should write a book.

It's spelt Labour.

If it's made by the BBC, then it's a public broadcast and so it must be made available publicly to the public that pay for it through license fees. At least that's how I see it.

it wasn't a bbc production, but indepedent. got a very limited release i believe.

that's gash i think, imdb lists the production companies as

    * HanWay Films
    * Newhouse Nitrate

the dvd is probably produced by 20th century fox

Says it's a BBC film. I'm confused now.

Sorry OF, but I hate the pesky Yank spellings!

the bbc made it, but 20thC have bought distribution rights so they can sell it under their name and make a shitloat without having to put in the hard work

Post by: sonic youth on Saturday, July 15, 2006, 23:56:21
aye, my guess would be that the bbc part-funded it, the companies i mentioned also invested and then it was independently distributed in cinemas. the beeb got the rights to show it before it's dvd release whilst 20th century fox did the dvd production and pathé are distributing it.

strange though, i'd have thought that the beeb would have produced and distributed the dvd themselves

Thinking about it, BBC would have the rights to some of the footage (of performances) so I'm guessing that's they're part in the film

Title: glastonbury
Post by: sonic youth on Saturday, July 15, 2006, 23:58:27
true, the film is a mix of amateur footage and bbc footage

Anyone else glad that FilmFour is going to be on freeview soon?  8)

Also, I never knew that all dvd players are multi-region, you just need a code.  I wouldn't have bought two copies of Y tu mama tambien if I had known, but at least I got Barton Fink working.

As for Glastonbury, the only time I went  I ended up smoking pipes watching the main stage from a hill(not very sucessful trip).  The only job I've done there was for greenpeace, and it's not quite the same being there before and after :|   I could have smuggled enough drugs in for everybody though  :doobie:

since the broadcasting act of 1990- as part of the BBCs remit, 25% of their output must be independantly produced.

therefore, BBC didnt produce it, rather HanWay and Nitrate did but it's still under the brolly of the Beeb.
distribution rights are a totally different matter as a film, as usual C20thfox have got em.
