Title: FAO Anyone who knows anything about fitness! Post by: Danjackson10 on Friday, July 14, 2006, 10:29:10 Im looking to build my fitness up and loose a few pounds before the new football season! Anyone got some advise on the sort of training i should focus on?
Title: FAO Anyone who knows anything about fitness! Post by: magicroundabout on Friday, July 14, 2006, 10:38:27 something i have been doing all pre season is circuit training at the local gym once a week.
best thing about it is it is working every single muscle group in your body for an hour solid. add this to football training twice a week and i've noticed the difference. loosing the old beer fat off me stomach quite quickly too. Title: FAO Anyone who knows anything about fitness! Post by: magicroundabout on Friday, July 14, 2006, 10:45:04 honestly it is.
if you go with someone too you can work off each other and keep pushing each other. had to do a fitness assesment last week (first time i'd been for 4 weeks cos of holiday) which we'll do again in 6 weeks to compare. had to see how many sit ups/push ups/bench lifts/squats etc we could do for a minute of each. i was half dead when i finished. Title: FAO Anyone who knows anything about fitness! Post by: Batch on Friday, July 14, 2006, 11:35:28 I find you have to eat healthily in combination with the excercise too. Must be old age, to quote Rimmer
"You've reached that age, Listy. When you're younger you can eat what you like, drink what you like and still climb into your 26 inch waist trousers and zip them closed. Then you reach that age -- 24, 25 -- your muscles give up they wave a little white flag and then without any warning at all, you're suddenly a fat bastard" Title: FAO Anyone who knows anything about fitness! Title: FAO Anyone who knows anything about fitness! Post by: DV on Friday, July 14, 2006, 12:01:01 If you want to get specifically fit for football, than dont bother with endurance running, you know 4/5 mile jogs every evening because its pointless...
Football isnt about enduring running at all, its stop/start/stop/start lots of little springs all the time. Just set up a 5 point shuttle run and keep doing that, it will get your body used to the stopping and starting....works wonders. Title: FAO Anyone who knows anything about fitness! Post by: DV on Friday, July 14, 2006, 12:17:07 it should say sprints not springs..... :?
Like I said lots of shuttle runs gets the muscles used to how football is played. No good being able to jog constantly for 4 miles if you cant sprint Title: FAO Anyone who knows anything about fitness! Post by: oxford_fan on Friday, July 14, 2006, 12:57:30 or you could go on the 4mile run but change your pace during; alternating between 20 seconds sprinting, 40 seconds jogging. that way you'll get the stamina and pace/power.

Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, July 14, 2006, 14:28:50 I saw a program once that said everyone is fat because they do no walking anymore. Back in the day people used to walk thousands more steps. You can count walking around a supermarket etc. as well apparently.
When I was at uni it took me 30 mins to walk there from my house, up some pretty steep hills. The last big hill always wore me out even though I did it every day! I think people overcompensate poor lifestyles with intensive exercise too much these days. Things like playing football are much more fun, or simply walking from a to b is practical and physically demanding :) Title: FAO Anyone who knows anything about fitness! Post by: yeo on Friday, July 14, 2006, 14:35:01 I walk and cycle loads and im still fat so thats bollocks :D
Title: FAO Anyone who knows anything about fitness! Post by: spacey on Friday, July 14, 2006, 14:37:43 Maybe you should try walking and cycling somewhere else other than the pub and the pie shop.

The point of the program was that for the people that did nothing, walking so many steps a day made them lose loads. I reckon if you did no exercise you'd be like Rick Waller or something  I think the point I was trying to make before is that you're supposed to exercise daily, not once a week, although I'm not really sure what I'm on about anymore, so just ignore me :o Title: FAO Anyone who knows anything about fitness!
