Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, July 14, 2006, 01:56:14
Thought I'd enter a freeroll for some practice because I hadn't played for months.

Finished 6th/2000 but only won $5, like I said more for practice than anything. Played a pretty flawless game until the final table where I was leading and called when someone went all in. I had 3 A but he had pkt 3 which made the full house, thought he had the same as me, oh well.

Still, definitely helped me get back into the swing of things

Very nice work Si! Crap payout, how long were you playing for? My best effort remains at 8th/1,600+ in a $1 entry tourney, which paid out about $50. Still funding my poker vice 3 months later.....

On a slight tangent, have you been watching Pokerface with Ant 'n' Dec? Bit of a slow-burner, but gets pretty good towards the end. £1m final on Sunday should be ace

I've been playing a lot of poker recently, made about $200 at ladbrokes at the 5-10c no limit tables but they've got rid of them now which is annoying so I have to play at 10-20c which has much better players, also made about $80 at noble poker.

I've just been playing the $0.25-0.50 limit tables. If you find a loose table you can win quite a bit that way.

I don't like limit, only play no limit. I like to have plenty of money in my poker account 'cos you can get some big swings with no limit so I have about $300 that I use to play 10-20c. Lost $25 on friday, won $35 today.

I just had a hand where some idiot reraised me all in with nothing when i had pocket aces and then claimed the site was rigged no question when he lost.

Where are you playing. I've tried a lot of sites, poker stars seems fairly tight, probably has the best players, ladbrokes is full of people who don't like to fold and will call big bets, so you can get some very bad beats but win a lot from really strong hands. Noble poker seems similar to ladbrokes but a bit tighter, players aren't any better though.

Also tried playing at world poker exchange because they give you all your rake back which is a nice bonus, players aren't too bad there though.

Ha.
Some idiot went in to a hand with 6D 8D with raises pre-flop and wondered why he got beat by my nice full house. There were 2 aces on the board and the way I was betting made it obvious I had bettered his flush. He then lost it real bad  :o

I'm back down to $20 now though. The thing about limit poker is if you play it right, you can really spot the fish and make money. BUt like all poker it can go horribly wrong.

I just played a cheap quick tourney and finshed a few quid up. don't trust my self with the cash games again yet though. Especially whilst a bit pissed - it's a recipe for disaster. I'm still on some freeroll money I got on titan student poker. won 5$. on just under £20 at the moment, although I was on £40 which isn't bad from some student freeroll winnings.

Must admit I was inspired to go and play the past couple of nights after reading this

Up the grand total of $32

Going to build up a bit of a bankroll again as I'd cashed it all in.  Noticed the standard especially on Ladbrokes is definately improving, lot of handy players about on the lower stake tables.

Only plus point is most are easier to read than a book so the long haul usually gets them when the concentration and frsutration slips in.

I'm gonna play a (hopefully not too) quick cheap tourney I think. could do with some alcohol to ease the boredom of the lame hands - although some tourneys with only six on a table make the hands a bit better (which is what I'm gonna do. - think I could have worded that a bit better).

Think there might be some gin in the fridge, although I've been doing that a fair bit and not sure my lovely mum will be happy if I've finished it off. Meh, fuck it. I'll put the empty bottle back in and fill it up with water.

After some nasty bad beats last week with AA, KK and QQ all showing big losses I got much better luck today and I'm up $75.

Got myself to 56th in the ladbrokes weekly leaderboard. http://www.ladbrokespoker.com/community/tournaments/leagues/cash/search/?alias=benwahballs

Cheers to Dazzza for recommending Ladbrokes 'cos I have found it a good site so far and the $125 sign up bonus was very nice too.

What limits do you play at by the way?

Nice one Ben.

Never knew you could search the leader board like that. I'm 143rd at the moment.  :D

I had been playing a lot of the MTT's $5 turbos up to the $20 (no rebuy) games but not had much luck at all in the past few months.  Had a few finishes but really only covered entry costs.

Normally prefer the 15/30 and may work my way up to the 25/50 if things go well but been pottering around the beginners tables just to get back in the swing of things this week.

Only downside to Laddies is the lack of Yanks and hordes of Scandinavians who all seem to play a tight regimented game.

Title: Poker
Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 23:16:21
Yeah it is $125. http://poker.ladbrokes.com/promotions/index.php?#free_poker_chips

You have to deposit $100 and play a lot of hands to get the full amount but they give you $25 just for submitting a profile and they give you the bonus $10 at a time. Actually I think you can even get another $25 as well as that if I refer you.

True about the Scandinavians Dazzza, have to be careful with some of them. Nice feature the leaderboard, if you see the same player near the top most weeks then you know you don't want them on your table.

Fucking hate loose cocks like that, they're why i periodically give up and restart again!

I've just finished my usual late night session of poker and checked here to see if Zola had been announced yet. Oh well...

I don't think i can use ladbrokes as i use royal vegas which is Microgaming software like Ladbrokes. Is that right?

Saying that i don't particularly like the software anyway.

Has anyone tried Poker.com?

I regg'd a few months ago and you get free entry into a $500 freeroll everyday for first week and entry into a big thing at the weekend if i remember correctly. That's quite a good site, although dropped to $15 and as of tonight upto $100 which is better than a kick in the teeth.

If you like loose idiots, try pacific, they give you a $25 bonus. The great thing about their bonus though, is it's real money you can play with straight away. You need to use an Affiliates link though, which if you're interested i can give you. Oh, i get $50 out of the bargain...

I use royal vegas and ladbrokes, it's pretty much the same software but you can use both no problem.

Was about $12 down today on ladbrokes, only down to a hand where I had AA, reraised, original raiser reraised all in I reraised again putting the other guy who'd called all in and he called, first one had KK, second had a pair of 10s, I was leading on the flop and the turn but there was a 10 on the river so the guy with tens won the $42 pot, so lost $17 from that hand but I've made a fair amount of my profit from similar hands so in the long run it's all good.

I've only tried poker.com with play money, tried pacific a while ago, thinking of going back there soon.

Had a blast at pokeroom last night for a change as my calculatem license expired and the only way to renew is to sign up on one of their offers and play 500 hands on that site.

Tried a crack and got the worst virus ever so gave up in the end and had a bash so to speak on pokerooms to get a renewal.

Not bad, although I still think Ladbrokes (is Microgaming Barry) is by far the easiest set-up to play with its simplicity.  Far too much clutter on these sites and all the fancy graphics and options do is detract from the game play.

Anyway, $40 up from my $20 stake and another couple of hundred hands to get through tonight and it’s back home to Laddies.

I've played a bit on party poker. The sign up bonus is good but don't like the site much. There are some crap players but it's very busy and you also get a lot of good players, I've heard the general standard there has improved a lot over the last couple of years so it's not one of the weaker sites any more.

I had the same problem Si.   Playing far too much on the calc's advice and not really watching games properly.

Still find it useful though but more as double check before betting in case of some horrendous fuck up especially in the tournaments and long sessions where concentration can lap.  Latest version Pro knocks up pot odds and shows percentages on the next cards, which is handy for the lazy man like myself.

Had a rollercoaster day on ladbrokes the other day, was down $30 at one point but ended up $30 up. Also finished 40th in the ladbrokes raked hands freeroll to win $19.

Have tried pacific poker again, have to say it doesn't seem as fishy as I expected so far, a few times I have raised just 3 or 4 times the blinds and everyone has folded, that rarely happens at ladbrokes. There are some really shit players though.

Never really played turbo tournaments much before, they're pretty crazy. I got off to a good start, then the blinds caught up with everyone, people just drop out constantly, just made it into the money with only just over one big blind left (blinds were $10000) but then won a couple of nice pots and was at the final table in no time.

Don't you find people who say nh (nice hand) to whatever anybody has a bit annoying. just had some bloke saying it to someone with top pair. Just becauase you were stupidly calling bets with mid-pair doesn't make it a nice hand. 'nh' should be reserved for straights or at least lucky river hit's on all in.
