Title: Ronaldo - Best Young Player Post by: janaage on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, 11:59:42 He's hardly the evil man that the media seem to be portraying him as though. He didn't wave an imaginary card, he didn't get in a sulk when substituted and he didn't stamp on an opponants gonads.
When the balls in the goal it's not Gerrard or Cole, it's Rooooonaldo!!! He looked superb in all 3 games he played, shame he wasn't played more. Title: Ronaldo - Best Young Player Post by: Bushey Boy on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, 12:08:51 Ronaldo is romping it at the moment, I blame scotland.
Title: Ronaldo - Best Young Player Post by: janaage on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, 12:11:21 Lennon looked ok, however how many telling final balls did he produce? How many goals did he create or score? How many did Beckham?
Typical, you get carried by one man for years then as soon as some kid comes on who can run a bit faster, look more dangerous, everyone starts slating Beckham. Title: Ronaldo - Best Young Player Post by: my-velocity on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, 12:29:21 LENNON
Title: Ronaldo - Best Young Player Post by: janaage on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, 12:39:34 Lennon = The English David Odonkor, all pace, no end product.
Title: Ronaldo - Best Young Player Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, 12:53:13 Quote from: "janaage" Lennon looked ok, however how many telling final balls did he produce? How many goals did he create or score? How many did Beckham? Lennon was on the pitch for less than 90 minutes in total for the whole tournament. He was involved in both the goals against Trinidad and Tobago, did a great job against Ecuador where he prevented a tense finish by winning throwings and corners and going on a great run which was exactly what we needed to run the clock down. His run into the box from Crouch's knock-on against Portugal was one of our best chances of the game and could have easily won a penalty. Beckham in the same match took a corner which didn't even clear the first man and didn't even clear the wall with his free kick. Even if Beckham hadn't been injured he should have been taken off for Lennon at that time anyway. Title: Ronaldo - Best Young Player Post by: janaage on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, 16:20:49 In that case he definitely deserves the best young player of the tournament award. I mean a bit part as a sub, an "amazing" performance against a super power of international football like Trinidad and Tobago completely overshadows Ronaldo being Portugal's most important player and getting them as far as the semi's (if not further).
Where do I vote? Title: Ronaldo - Best Young Player Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, 16:45:02 The point is Ronaldo wouldn't have been able to have the same impact if he'd only played for 90 minutes.
It's not Lennon's fault that he didn't play for longer, he was superb every time he played and that's all you can ask. Portugal have a number of decent players, it's not all Ronaldo, Ricardo won them the match against England. Title: Ronaldo - Best Young Player Post by: my-velocity on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, 17:34:32 Lennon made an immediate impact when he came on in his games. He was amazing, better than Beckham.

Title: Ronaldo - Best Young Player Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, July 6, 2006, 22:58:18 Ronaldo rarely produces a good cross either. Personally I would go with Senderos or Podolski, but I can't be fucked to vote either. Why the fuck Theo and Carson are in there when they haven't played is funny as fook.

The 20-year-old has scored three goals in six matches so far, including a brace in the hosts' 2-0 second round victory over Sweden in Munich. He scored against Ecuador too and beat off competition from Cesc Fabregas, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Valencia and Tranquilo Barnetta. No England players were shortlisted for the prize. There was a concerted email campaign by England fans to deny Ronaldo of the award. The Portuguese winger, pilloried for his part in the sending off of Wayne Rooney, was leading the Fifa website vote by a huge margin. But an email urging fans to vote for Ecuador's Luis Valencia instead led to an incredible 24-hour turnaround. The hate campaign started after the quarter-final between England and Portugal in Gelsenkirchen, when Ronaldo was pushed by Manchester United team-mate Rooney, just before the England striker received a red card. Ronaldo was caught on camera apparently winking at the bench after Rooney's dismissal, infuriating England fans. Podolski won the prize because Fifa had the final say, chosen by a 14-man panel. Title: Ronaldo - Best Young Player Post by: SwindonTartanArmy on Friday, July 7, 2006, 09:23:29 whats the point of having a vote if FIFA are just going to ignore it???

Title: Ronaldo - Best Young Player Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, July 7, 2006, 15:54:36 Podolski had a good tourney I thought. He definitely made it easier for Klose to score his goals.
Title: Ronaldo - Best Young Player Post by: Spencer_White on Saturday, July 8, 2006, 16:15:49 Apparently all the Scots were voting for Ronaldo. Not that anyone noticed.
In fact, do they get noticed for anything at all anymore? (You're not famous anymore!) |
