we are going to start a charity for children with cancer i know their are probably loads around anyway so we might just look at donating to them.its something my grandad really wanted to do..http://www.thisiswiltshire.co.uk/sport/sportheadlines/display.var.795266.0.leos_last_wish.php

so its the least we can do by making sure we carry it out

Not being negative, but my girlfriend  now works for a childrens brain injury charity and used to work at CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia In Children), who recently merged with Sargent Cancer Care - CLIC Sargent are now huge and rake in so much money, you would never be able to compete with them for donations, they really have the market cornered!

I salute your intentions and hope you work out something good to do. My uncle and dad used to tell me about playing pool against Leo the Hat...

It's just clicked macca, my mate told me about Leo the hat before.  My friend is one of the best pool players around here, and the only person I've heard him speak very highly of is your grandad.

Good luck if you decide to do it.

Best of luck to you - read the stuff about your grandad in the Adver and he sounds like a top bloke. Just as a suggestion, sounds like what you're looking to do is not so much start a new charity as benefit an existing cause but with a specific fundraising drive in the name of The Hat aimed at pool players. Why not choose one (or more) of the existing charities that's close to the area he would have wanted to get donations for and suggest a fundraising campaign targetted at pool players in his name to benefit that charity?

That way, you get their clout, organisational skills etc to promote it, you don't have all the admin hassle of trying to run a charity yourself, there's no wasted duplicated effort, and most importantly all the money raised can go straight to the charity rather than having to be spent on admin costs etc. But like I say, whichever route you choose to go down, best of luck in your efforts and more power to your elbow.
