Title: idea Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 08:43:12 we should try and set up some twinning like towns do but fans from around the world. anyone any ideas.
could be ace we could visit each other and take in some matches. my one would be jaguares de chiapas in the southern state of chiapas mexico. they play in a city called tuxtla guitterez and its a bit of a shit hole surrounded by beautiful countryside (ring any bells). im going to try and make contact. Title: idea Post by: Batch on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 08:51:59 bloody good idea Mex, though I think it unlikely that many more than say 1 or two will travel to Mexico!
Title: idea Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 08:54:12 could be cool though, dont have to be mexico could be italy france whatever, could exchange shirts flags just thought might be quite cool.
what about fcmarbella in spain? Title: idea Post by: Bushey Boy on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 08:55:17 Can I play on the right wing? isnt mexico dodgy? and full up of coke?
Title: idea Post by: RobertT on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 08:58:40 Shouldn't we find teams that reflect a similar story as STFC in their respective country.
Basically, any team with a brief flirt with the countries top league while being spanked every week would be a good start. Or one that bounces around the leagues all over the place. Title: idea Post by: larwood on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 09:00:16 Quote and full up of coke? Your kinda place then  Title: idea Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 09:02:56 yes fair play, actually when i first went to see jaguares they were bottom of the top leauge and getting stuffed every week and that made me like them more!
now they have turned it round and are second!! maybe someone like napoli who are currently shit. lets do some research. something really obscure appeals to me somewhere like bulgaria or greece. Title: idea Post by: Bob's Orange on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 09:08:35 What about that team in Spain that were in the top league a few seasons ago and sound like an Argentinian tennis player.
Recreativo Huelva I think they are called. Title: idea Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 09:41:26 i think they have been promoted to la liga again, could be wrong though

Title: idea Post by: le god cuervo on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 10:25:37 Quote from: "mexico red" maybe someone like napoli who are currently shit napoli were also the team we beat in the AIC final so a bit of history between the 2 clubs there. what about one of the serie C clubs? Genoa, Padova, Salernitana, Foggia? I think they've all had stints in the top flight but are rubbish now... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serie_C Title: idea Post by: RobertT on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 10:32:49 Foggia were a great Italian team to watch when they hit the big time. Flew in the face of standard Italian tactics and just went hell for leather, meaning they took a few beatings I think.
Title: idea Post by: le god cuervo on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 10:35:17 actually reading through some of the stuff on wikipedia it seems a lot of those teams have declared themselves bankrupt in recent years & reformed at the bottom level... ancona, napoli, venezia, perugia...
just found reggiana in serie C2/B as well, they used to be good in the 90s Title: idea Post by: RobertT on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 10:39:32 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Foggia
Title: idea Post by: Cookie on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 10:47:52 Genoa
Winning promotion to the top division but subsequently being demoted to the third tier becuase of financial irregularities, sounds familiar? They've also won the Anglo-Italian Cup, they beat Port Vale in 1996! I remember them when they were good in the 90's on Channel 4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genoa_C.F.C. Title: idea Post by: le god cuervo on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 10:49:42 Foggia definatly fit the "bounces around the leagues all over the place" description. Not a bad stadium either http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictures/europe/italy/puglia/foggia_zaccheria.jpg
Title: idea Post by: larwood on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 10:51:50 Quote Genoa NO,as a Sampdoria fan i would find us being linked with them fuckers quite unpleasant  Title: idea Post by: larwood on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 10:52:59 Quote Genoa NO! spanish suggestions could include las palmas, won a fair bit and spent some time in the top division but now in the 3rd tier of spanish football. and vinny samways played for 'em 8) rayo vallecano are a yo-yo club, spent loads of time in the top division and got to the quarter-finals in the uefa cup a few years back. they're now in the same tier as las palmas. their chairman is a woman who is a bit mental. Title: idea Post by: genf_stfc on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 11:39:36 geneva servette - once a major force in switzerland (not that that means much) but two years ago declared bankrupt after some fine axamples of managerial idiocy that would make our board look like it was run by sir john harvey stevens. Relegated two divisions as a penalty, which was a little bit embarrassing as geneva city had just built them a new 30,000 seater stadium against the wishes of most of the local voters, where they were then playing basically the equivalent of sunday afternoon pub football against other sides from 20km away.
apart from the overly generous city counci, does that sound familiar ?! Title: idea Post by: Cookie on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 11:51:18 Quote NO! Title: idea Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 15:04:43 this could be wicked we could be tied to more than one,
anyway had a email from an official of chaipas at 8.15am there time must be keen! basically they are well up for it have given this site as a haven for fans who are dedicata and idiota :D they are well up for exchanging banderia and flags and the like, could be ace unfurling a jaguares banner in the town end :D Title: idea Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 15:05:42 switzerland spain and italy all sound good anymore suggestions and then perhaps we should take a vote

Title: idea Post by: PHIL!!!! on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 23:22:00 This is the sort of thing we did (well i think they still do) for Wootton Bassett FC. Like we would go on a tour to Holland, once a year, and play a few of their teams over their (i.e. centre of excellence players  ) and as Chris Kirkland was involved in it all, he made sure they (Dordrecht 90 - Some second division dutch side) had STFC merchandise etc..In one pub we went into, they had STFC flags/scarfs/pictures all over the place 8)
Well.......it's kind of the same thing.... Title: idea Post by: Forza_Swindon on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, 08:42:57 Ancona had one (disatrous) season in the top flight and finished bottom with 13 points...That was 2003/2004, full staduims every week, you name it....
Then they got relegated and embroiled in financial scandal so were demoted even further to C2...went bankrupt, had a public appeal for money so they could pay the league registration fee and just about made it. Obviously the crowds have disappeared (only the hardcore and the people at a loose end attend now). There followed a season of mediocrity in C2 (2004/2005) and this season was reasonably successful, ending with a play-off place (unfortunately they lost this over the two legs due some crap refereeing, surprise surprise).... Things seem to be getting better gradually. They would understand our current plight I think.... Title: idea Post by: Dorset Red on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, 10:25:03 Down here in Bournemouth there is already a sort of informal twinning between AFC Bournemouth and Bohemians in Ireland. I think it happened because the Bohemians fans wanted some football to watch during their mid-season break and AFC Bournemouth happened to wear the same colours. Add to that the fact that it's possible to fly very cheaply from Ireland to Bournemouth on Ryanair. I've been to Bournemouth matches when the "bohs" fans have been there and they really add something to the atmosphere with their flags and banners.
I suggest it would be a good idea to "twin" with a club that could be visted on the cheap. For example, if you were to twin with Real Mallorca you could fly down from Bournemouth to watch matches, (sometimes for about a tenner if you booked far enough in advance) and have a weekend in the sun. Alternatively you could follow Murcia and fly down from Southampton. Have a look at the regional airports like Bristol, Luton, Southampton and Bournemouth and see where you could fly to on the cheap. Then pick a team that fits the bill. Scheduled flights by low cost carriers from airports down here on the south coast serve Pisa/Florence, Murcia, Malaga, Faro, Alicante, Gerona/Barcelona, Palma Mallorca, Ibiza, Tenerife, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast, Amsterdam, Paderborn, Berlin, Angers, Avignon, Berne, Bordeaux, Brest, Brussells, Limoges, Paris, Perpignan, Rennes, Cork, Dublin, Geneva (in winter), Lyon (in winter), Prague (in winter), Salzburg (in winter). I'm sure there must be a team or two which could be interesting in that lot! Title: idea Post by: sonic youth on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, 11:17:27 fiorentina 8)
