They will for the right money; will be an excellent signing for them.

And he learnt it all in his on loan days at Swindon!

Apparently Spurs want £20 million for Carrick.  :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

He's already an awesome player, £15m would be too good to turn down though.

If they get him for £15 mill, that will be a bargain!

He's a good player. Not great though. You never know how a change of club/system will suit a player but £10m looks like too much to me. £14m is bloody ridiculous (unless he fit's their system perfectly and plays like a god for the next 8 years).

Having said that, English players always seem to command 2/3 times the price of an equal player from abroud, so maybe £10m is about right.

They don't though, Crespo for £35m, Cisse for £15m, Veron for £30m, Anelka for £25m, Drogba etc.

I mean Rooney is far far better than Crespo has ever been but I didn't see him being sold for £50m-100m.

IMO he's one for the future. He's got bags of talent. It does cost more for English players, and thats why a lot of clubs look abroad. For example, is Andy Johnson worth over £8 million?

I don't think so but Aaron Lennon is worth a hell of a lot more than £1m, Rooney is worth more than £25m, Owen is worth more than £8m, Joe Cole is worth more than £6m.

You get overpriced players who're English and overpriced players who aren't English but I don't think foreign players tend to be any better value and English players definitely don't cost 2 or 3 times as much.

But if those clubs sold those players they wouldn't go cheap...you never know how much a player is worth is till they've been bought or an offer is put in...

Carrick's over-rated.

It would help if a holding player could tackle, but alas this seems to be beyond the chavvy cockney cunt.

I think he could do a job in England's midfield if Gerrard or Lampard were unavailable, and would be equally valuable to ManUre.

I think that £10m would be the top offer from me though

but he's not a holding midfielder for spurs, he's their playmaker

i think bwb is right regarding players at the top end of a spectrum but a prem club would pay more for an english player from the championship than they would for an equivalent player in terms of ability from abroad in most cases

Possibly but I think it's more down to having experience in the English leagues which makes them more valuable to an English club than just because they are English. Some foreign players just don't adapt to the English game (Diego Forlan's a well-known example) and if they're not top quality players then it's even harder but if they've played in England for most of their career then their proven and their nationality wouldn't make any difference to their price.
