i have no link.but he has not been offered a deal.the club sent him a letter in the post.good player from what i heard but maybe we have other targets lined up who are not going to be injury prone.got to take into consideration his close relationship with iffy aswell i suppose

Could have provided some pretty usefull cover and experiance in the midfield. Although depending on who else is lined up for the middle a few good signings and Paul smith will soon be forgotten.

spoke to some gills season ticket holders on sunday at sussex kent game and they rated smith a couple of seasons ago but said last year he had lost his pace and they were glad to see the back of him. so there you go.

Would've liked his experience in the midfield... This is could suggest that Wise will feature more than he said he would.

Shame he got injured at a crucial time.

I'm relieved, he wouldn't have been cheap and he's missed more than he's played. I didn't rate him as overly useful either.

Sad to see him go.

He was slow and old, but made a massive difference to the side when he played - the defence actually had some protection from the midfield.

Having said that wise is more than capable of playing his role, and hopefully little dennis has a few other players lined up.

Paul has taken the news badly, and has taken to mugging people to support his family :|

No surprise there really, Mark Devlin didn't give the impression either Smith or Jenks were staying on the old BBC last week.

I'm not really sure how big a loss it is to be honest.  At present we don't really have much of a squad at all, you'd have to hope that's due to a total rebuild job but until we see what Wise brings in there's no measure against how big a loss Smith is.

Not surprising really - Diddy Dennis is having a bit of sweep out and it's probably for the best. He obviously is planning on playing that role himself.

Paul Smith was one of our only players who knew how to pass a football....

This is another bad mistake along with getting rid of Dick Mackey IMO.

mackey might not be leaving either, wise wants to bring his own man in but there could be room for mackey to remain in the same role

I doubt it he'll acept that though. he's been there for nearly 20 years.

I saw that too... There's a big difference when forgetting to add the word "not" before the word 'will' in a news bulletin!

Good interview with Smith on the BBC, get the impression he's a bit pissed off that he didn't get a phone (just a letter) call but quite philosophical about it all.

Nice bloke and had a nice touch about how he'd enjoyed his short time with Swindon more than he does when he looks back at 8 years with Gillingham.
