Title: paul smith Post by: red macca on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, 08:06:10 i have no link.but he has not been offered a deal.the club sent him a letter in the post.good player from what i heard but maybe we have other targets lined up who are not going to be injury prone.got to take into consideration his close relationship with iffy aswell i suppose
Title: paul smith Post by: larwood on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, 08:09:19 He looked good WHEN he played, unfortunately he was injured most of the time. He's getting on a bit too isn't he?Can't say i'm too unhappy at this news.

shame really, i rated him but his injury record wasn't the best. Title: paul smith Post by: kevjoycreed on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, 08:40:39 Could have provided some pretty usefull cover and experiance in the midfield. Although depending on who else is lined up for the middle a few good signings and Paul smith will soon be forgotten.
Title: paul smith Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, 09:34:07 spoke to some gills season ticket holders on sunday at sussex kent game and they rated smith a couple of seasons ago but said last year he had lost his pace and they were glad to see the back of him. so there you go.
Title: paul smith Post by: Rich Pullen on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, 10:09:55 Would've liked his experience in the midfield... This is could suggest that Wise will feature more than he said he would.
Shame he got injured at a crucial time. Title: paul smith Post by: DMR on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, 10:51:31 I'm relieved, he wouldn't have been cheap and he's missed more than he's played. I didn't rate him as overly useful either.
Title: paul smith Post by: Piemonte on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, 10:59:37 Sad to see him go.
He was slow and old, but made a massive difference to the side when he played - the defence actually had some protection from the midfield. Having said that wise is more than capable of playing his role, and hopefully little dennis has a few other players lined up. Paul has taken the news badly, and has taken to mugging people to support his family :| Title: paul smith Post by: Dazzza on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, 11:21:40 No surprise there really, Mark Devlin didn't give the impression either Smith or Jenks were staying on the old BBC last week.
I'm not really sure how big a loss it is to be honest. At present we don't really have much of a squad at all, you'd have to hope that's due to a total rebuild job but until we see what Wise brings in there's no measure against how big a loss Smith is. Title: paul smith Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, 11:23:10 Not surprising really - Diddy Dennis is having a bit of sweep out and it's probably for the best. He obviously is planning on playing that role himself.
Title: paul smith Post by: DV on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, 12:13:46 Paul Smith was one of our only players who knew how to pass a football....
Title: paul smith Post by: my-velocity on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, 17:08:38 This is another bad mistake along with getting rid of Dick Mackey IMO.
Title: paul smith Post by: sonic youth on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, 19:11:02 mackey might not be leaving either, wise wants to bring his own man in but there could be room for mackey to remain in the same role

Yeah I thought it was about 10 years too Title: paul smith Post by: FlashGordon on Wednesday, June 7, 2006, 09:13:59 Yesterday on Sky Sports it said Swindon were offering Paul Smith a contract in the summer?! I was a bit confused after reading the adver site, guessin Sky just made a typo?

There's a big difference when forgetting to add the word "not" before the word 'will' in a news bulletin! Title: paul smith Post by: Dazzza on Wednesday, June 7, 2006, 15:57:45 Good interview with Smith on the BBC, get the impression he's a bit pissed off that he didn't get a phone (just a letter) call but quite philosophical about it all.
Nice bloke and had a nice touch about how he'd enjoyed his short time with Swindon more than he does when he looks back at 8 years with Gillingham. Title: paul smith Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Wednesday, June 7, 2006, 18:36:23 bad move by Wise i reckon he would have done a good job for us next season
