Title: Steve Phillips Post by: bigbobjoylove on Monday, June 5, 2006, 13:46:39 Bristol City boss Gary Johnson says he is yet to receive any official bids for the club's transfer-listed players.
Keeper Steve Phillips, Wales defender Dave Partridge and midfielder Grant Smith were all told at the end of last season they were allowed to leave. Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol: "We've received nothing officially. "I've phone conversations with agents but until another manager speaks to me to ask the situation then they won't become official in my mind." ------- Surely a decent replacement for Rhys? Didn't he win best goalkeeper 2/3 times in a row in League One? Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Luci on Monday, June 5, 2006, 13:48:50 No thanks. Don't like Phillips one bit...
I think we can do better. Title: Steve Phillips Post by: walrus on Monday, June 5, 2006, 13:50:55 He has truly God-awful hair.... no thanks!!
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Sade on Monday, June 5, 2006, 14:36:49 City reject. We have enough of them :D
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: McLovin on Monday, June 5, 2006, 14:38:23 He's a handy 'keeper at any level below Championship, at least for another year or two. I can't believe they preferred that god awful Brazilian.
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: DV on Monday, June 5, 2006, 16:20:52 Hmm...never really watched much of Phillips, but he has been talked about as one of the better keepers in League One.
My gut reaction when he was dropped back in November for the game against us on sky was 'hmm should make it easier to score, now they've got their 2nd choice keeper in goal' no offers for Cunt Smith.... :D Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Rich Pullen on Monday, June 5, 2006, 16:28:40 If Andy King was manager then I'd put money on Phillips joining Swindon. I think he'll go to Yeovil.
I prefer the other names being mentioned. Title: Steve Phillips Post by: DMR on Monday, June 5, 2006, 19:15:19 He's a very good keeper, plenty of City reckon he should never have been replaced and he'd have a point to prove to Gary Johnson. He'd be a top signing for L2, better than Evans.
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Sippo on Monday, June 5, 2006, 20:01:50 wisey will have names in mind. And I'm sure they'll be better than phillips.
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: SwindonStevo on Monday, June 5, 2006, 21:20:48 but will we actually get those names in mind
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Duncan_Shearer on Monday, June 5, 2006, 21:27:01 Phillips is very overated.
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: mattyswinboy on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, 10:11:37 phillips will probably go to rovers
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: janaage on Wednesday, June 7, 2006, 08:09:46 Not a bad keeper had a good season in their play off year, but I think I'm in the "no more ex-city" brigade (if that brigade has been formed yet).
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: reeves4england on Wednesday, June 7, 2006, 08:33:00 I think he is overrated. I have seen him make some ridiculous mistakes before now and was thankful we have Evans.
Maybe in League 2 he would be ok but nothing great, Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Luci on Wednesday, June 7, 2006, 12:05:22 The problem is the gap between league one and two standard wise isn't very great. If he wouldn't be good enough for us in league one then I doubt he would in league 2.
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, 09:53:05 It seems that Lee Peacock is doing his bit to bring Phillips to the CG
Get Phillips 14th June 2006 LEE Peacock has revealed friend and former teammate Steve Phillips is keen on a move to the County Ground and has urged Town’s new management team to snap him up. Bristol City goalkeeper Steve Phillips has been placed on the transfer list at Ashton Gate after falling out of favour with Gary Johnson and Town striker Peacock is confident he could be a solution to their number one problems. Peacock revealed he bumped into Phillips yesterday while on holiday in Majorca, where the City stopper told him he had asked his agent to try and sort out a move to the County Ground for him. Rhys Evans’ move to Blackpool has left Town boss Dennis Wise without a keeper and Peacock believes Phillips would be the ‘ideal man’ to help earn an immediate return to League One. He said: “Steve is staying at the same hotel as me and we have all been down to the beach together. He told me how his agent is going to be contacting Swindon to see whether they would be interested in taking him. “He sounded as though he would love the move to happen and Swindon could do a lot worse than bringing him in as a replacement for Rhys. “During my time at Bristol City, Steve hardly put a foot wrong. He was, in my opinion, one of the best keepers at that level and still is. I would love him to come and join me here.” Phillips joined City in November 1996 from local non-league side Paulton Rovers and made his first team debut in December 1998. A good shot stopper, Phillips had cemented his position as Ashton Gate as first choice until the arrival of Johnson just before Christmas. Since then, Phillips has been left in the cold and placed on the transfer list, with City yet to receive any bids for him. Peacock said: “He made the League One team of the year only a couple of seasons back. I don’t know who else Dennis Wise is lining up but for me there are not many better than Phillips.” Peacock endured a frustrating end to last season through injury and admits a combination of Wise and Gus Poyet’s arrival and the World Cup has got him longing for next campaign. He said: “I can’t wait. Hopefully Dennis Wise will bring in some good new signings and we will be ready for a good season.” Title: Steve Phillips Post by: DMR on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, 20:07:17 He'd be a great signing and a logical one, I'd love it.
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: bigbobjoylove on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, 20:45:27 I'll expect some sort of signing on fee for suggesting we sign him.
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: lebowski on Thursday, June 15, 2006, 13:00:35 he would be a very good signing. not only is he a decent keeper for our level, he also lives relatively local so we wouldn't have to worry about him settling down in a new area, and he knows most of our team already anyway...
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: dogs on Thursday, June 15, 2006, 14:32:59 He's easily good enough for league two and league one. If there's a chance i'd sign him.
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Piemonte on Thursday, June 15, 2006, 14:34:32 We could do a lot worse......
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: my-velocity on Thursday, June 15, 2006, 14:41:36 And he actually wants to come here which means he'll want to do well for the club and not just be there for the wages like alot of the players we have now do.
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Sippo on Thursday, June 15, 2006, 14:43:46 I'd rather not have him here ta...
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Spud on Thursday, June 15, 2006, 20:17:37 Quote from: "stfcfan" I'd rather not have him here ta... Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Rich Pullen on Thursday, June 15, 2006, 21:14:25 Devlin hasn't dismissed this one yet
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, 10:34:18 More fuel to this rumour is that Bristol City are signing Weale from Yeovil and now they have him and that dodgy Brazilian they must surely know Philips' fate.
Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Simon Pieman on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, 13:39:41 In other news, Bristol City and Swindon Town are to swap stadia.

Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Sippo on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, 18:00:36 but are still in league 1....
Obviously the league has got closer over the last few years. Title: Steve Phillips Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, 18:21:51 but they have had crap management under Tinnion, if Johnson had come in earlier they would have reached the play-offs last season
