well...batting pitch my arse really...

its a shame we lost 2 wickets...one would have been okay but two is abit dissapointing. i would have took 231 all out at the beginning of the day...so im hoping we can reach 300 with pietersen, cook, flintoff...

It's a lovely wicket, Sri Lanka got some rough decisions and contined to bat like spazzers, Strauss playted across the line when he should have been forward and Tresco is a dozy sod.

Sounded to me like England just didn't bat properly. Have it all to do now but can still win this without too much trouble if they pull their socks up

i wouldn't call it batting, it was more swinging and hoping. we couldn't do much about it, apart from maybe bowl a little straighter.

Well thats it then, the Sri lankans are going to win. There is no way we are going to be able to chase down over 300 on a wearing pitch against one of the best spin bowlers ever. Can't see it being a draw either,we won't be able to stick around for two days.

rubbish! we'll bowl 'em out well before lunch and then we've got two days in which to bat, easy!

I'm sure a draw is not going to happen now, there is too much time left.Still i can't see us getting the runs, not against Murali.

If we reach this run chase then we will deserve the title of a great team, if not then then this series has shown how frail we are and it's going to be a depressing winter.

no it wont be either. if we win or lose we'll still remain a good team. if we'd lost this series then we could have been called frail or if we beat australia away then you can be called great. you don't make such statements based on one match

Yep,it was always going to happen, batting last was always going to be trouble :(  Our inability to stay in has been a problem for the last few series.Bring back Boycott
Both KP and Fred are carrying injuries too.

Having not played much cricket, it is it really that hard for modern English players to bat like a Boycott?

The thing is the England players would say the game has changed, which of course it has,now a run rate of four an over is what most teams seem to aim for, they want to play quick exciting cricket.Which is brilliant BUT we seem to forget that its a test, not a odi,so time is on your side, the players seem unable to change their style of batting.

We weren't ever very likely to win anyway,it would have been one of the biggest run chases ever against a team with a freaky spin genius on a wearing pitch, not very likely even with Sir Geoff in the team.

I dont think that the batsmen can be totally  blamed for this result, It was always on the cards when an average spinner like Monty can take 5 wickets and then the Sri lankans wheel out Muri , the pitch was getting worse and as someone has already said ,batting last and chasing a big total was always going to be difficult. Time to relieve Freddie of the captaincy, get Virgil and Harmy fit , find a wicket keeper that can bat ! and we will be good again .

With a bowler like Murali in their side the Sri lankans always stood a chance, especially in a situation like yesterdays.Whatever your opinon of his action is,he is one of the best bowlers in world cricket.

We should have won at Lords, and we didn't :x

The fact of the matter is, we had them in their first innings but let them off the hook.

We should have went into bowling at them in the 2nd innings with a good 70 run lead instead we were 2 behind.
