Quote Evans poised to quit the County Ground 27th May 2006 EXCLUSIVE RHYS Evans is poised to quit the County Ground and sign for Blackpool next week after accepting a new challenge with the Seasiders. The Swindon Advertiser understands that the 24-year-old will travel north to pen a two-year contract at Bloomfield Road after the Bank Holiday weekend. Evans has been weighing up his options for some time, stressing how important it was that he made the right decision at a key stage in his career. After considerable soul-searching it now looks certain that Evans will decide to uproot and leave his home town behind after three seasons at the County Ground. Evans picked up five player of the year awards for his efforts during the 2005-6 campaign, despite missing a significant chunk of the season through injury. He had been offered a new deal by Town but admitted it wasn not to his liking. An improved deal has not been forthcoming at this stage and Evans has decided that he needs to address his future now. The arrival of Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet, former Chelsea colleagues of the Swindonian, led some fans to conclude that such a development would be enough to secure the player’s signature but that does not appear to be the case. If all goes ahead as expected then it will leave new boss Wise having to find not one but two goalkeepers when he returns from his Dubai holiday. Reserve keeper Matt Bulman was among those released by Iffy Onuora at the end of the last campaign. And should Evans depart then it just leaves the club with youth team custodian Jon Stewart in the goalkeeping department. Evans was unavailable for comment as the Advertiser went to press. Rhys has done well enough and I wish him luck.
Title: Evans leaving Post by: Stef Troll on Friday, May 26, 2006, 21:41:12 Im fully confident that we can bring an equally as good, if not better keeper then Evans. I'm sure Wise has analysed the tapes and watched the video and come to the same conclusion as me - Evans is a good shot stopper, but his distribtion of the ball is piss poor. I'm confident we can get a better keeper anyway :D
Title: Evans leaving Post by: Mark Hanrahan on Friday, May 26, 2006, 22:08:59 His loss in the long term. With or without some Latvian mush with a few quid, Blackpool will always be perenial underachievers.
Poglicomi on a free anyone?! Title: Evans leaving Post by: Spud on Friday, May 26, 2006, 22:20:37 Quote from: "Mark Hanrahan" His loss in the long term. With or without some Latvian mush with a few quid, Blackpool will always be perenial underachievers. Poglicomi on a free anyone?! He'd be a good signing, ive always rated him and during the PO year when we gave him shit all game he turned round at the end and said "Good luck in the Play Offs". Title: Evans leaving Post by: Dazzza on Friday, May 26, 2006, 22:30:28 I wish him the best of luck and his handling of the whole thing has been first class.
Not really sure Blackpoo is the best career move but could prove to be a good stepping stone for him. Not sure on replacements really. Keepers are a bit like managers in some respects the ones out of work are usually out of work for a reason while the untried are a gamble. Title: Evans leaving Post by: DV on Friday, May 26, 2006, 23:42:14 I'm still hopefuly, the sooner we offer him a revised deal the better....seems we are leaving it too late though.
Title: Evans leaving Post by: STFC Village on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 01:40:53 Think that's making the worst of the situation, he wouldn't be accepting anything else just yet from his comments today, just putting a little extra pressure on to get the revised deal through
Title: Evans leaving Post by: Gwah on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 06:47:08 Andy Marshall as a possible replacement? Wise had him at Millwall, and he's always seemed a fairly decent keeper.
I hope we don't get Pogliacomi - he's not the keeper he was a few years ago. He might be ok as a number 2. Title: Evans leaving Post by: Sade on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 07:53:55 Its on the back of the daily press too, all the best to him. He's stuck by us and has never struck me as being the greedy arrogant type, he is just doing whats best for his footballing career now and he's been a good player for us. I think as much as I did'nt think he was that bad a player, a change is in order anyway and adds to the excitement! It will be so odd seeing someone else in goal, for so long Rhys has been there! :D
Title: Evans leaving Post by: Batch on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 08:20:59 Good luck to Rhys and his family.
Blackpool smells of wee and sick. Title: Evans leaving Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 11:37:12 why Blackpool though? :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:
Title: Evans leaving Post by: Sade on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 11:59:16 I know, I find it quite strange too. Blackpool is absolutely ages away, he has a young family and they're moving all the way up there away from friends and family- its a big thing. Thought Rhys would stay a bit local, at first I was almost certain he'd go to city. Just hope it all works out for him.
Title: Evans leaving Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 12:01:14 he only wants more money :-))(
Title: Evans leaving Post by: Johno on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 12:26:32 i can see his frustration. only being offered a 12 month deal, but ohanlon according to wdp is getting a 3 year deal!!
Title: Evans leaving Post by: DV on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 12:30:25 Quote from: "Rich" he only wants more money :-))( nothing do to with Blackpool being a better team than us then  Title: Evans leaving Post by: red macca on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 12:33:36 i see what your saying dv.but he is saying this move is a career move .blackpool are not that much better there could be a possibility this time next year that we could swap places.imo its about money but im probably wrong.anyway wise has not spoken to him so its fair enough to assume he has got replacements lined up
Title: Evans leaving Post by: DV on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 12:34:44 Blackpool = League One
Swindon = League Two its that simple... Title: Evans leaving Post by: DMR on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 12:36:00 So, Bulman and now Evans gone.
Come on Jon Stewart 8) Title: Evans leaving Post by: red macca on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 12:37:16 um yeah thats obvious.blackpool is not a step up though is it evans has been a lg1 keeper for 3 yrs and will continue to be by the look of it so from going to highly rated keeper with ,west ham, bolton etc interested he has gone to fighting for a number one spot at blackpool
Title: Evans leaving Post by: Johno on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 12:42:04 he is getting this man thats why

Title: Evans leaving Post by: magnum150 on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 13:55:25 Tis a fair point though if Sean'O has been offered 3 yrs surely rRhys deserves 2 years.
Title: Evans leaving Post by: Johno on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 14:09:17 cheers dv.

I can't belive we only offered a 1 year to Rhys yet a 3 year to Sean O. They are relatively similar in standard, good league 1 players. In fact I'd rate Rhys above Sean O. Strange if tru. Title: Evans leaving Post by: red macca on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 14:32:54 it all depends though how much they both wanted
Title: Evans leaving Post by: SwindonTownFC on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 15:22:26 Devlin told Rhys whatever Blackpool offer we will match it, Blackpool have offered him a contract, Swindon havent got back to him yet, sums the club up really

'Hmm what shall we do Oh I know lets offer our worst player a three year deal and try and wind up our best player by only offering him a 12 month contract.' :| They really are fucking idiots. Title: Evans leaving Post by: reeves4england on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 20:47:36 O'Hanlon? Worst player? Open your eyes pal :o
I agree with your point though, not offering Rhys something concrete was stupid. He is a decent keeper Title: Evans leaving Post by: Tails on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 21:05:42 Quote from: "Reeves for King" Yet another example of ineptitude by our awful board. Our board are currently keeping us alive as a football club, show them some fucking respect. Rhys probably wants more money than he's worth, which is usually the case. Replacable. Title: Evans leaving Post by: Reeves for King on Saturday, May 27, 2006, 21:09:46 Our board don't seem to understand football, except perhaps Devlin. If we've got enough money to give O'Hanlon a big deal, why not Evans? Seems stupid to me.
Plus O'Hanlon IS shit 8) Title: Evans leaving Post by: SwindonTownFC on Sunday, May 28, 2006, 10:50:48 Quote from: "Reeves for King" Our board don't seem to understand football, except perhaps Devlin. Title: Evans leaving Post by: STFCere on Sunday, May 28, 2006, 11:20:41 we should be trying to hold onto our better players (both ohanlon and evans) to maintain some sort of stability..and whats the point in replacing evans? if its not broke dont fix it!!! he should have been offered 2 year deal min.
