Make or break time for him, he's going to have to get back to his best quickly next season, otherwise he'll be playing out his year in the reserves. I'm reasonably happy that it's just a year, gives him a chance to impress, without tieing us down to anything long-term

I'd have thought we're bound to sign another left back, he's the only natural one at the club currently.

I'll reiterate previous points... if he can be kept fit, focussed and motivated by the management (and himself, that'd be nice...) he can be a good left back in League 1, let alone League 2.

I'd agree with that. Thought he was back to his best for a 2 month (ish) period after christmas, but that was only temporary it would seem

It's wrong, i remember seeing an interview once with Alan Shearer saying "now i can have a drink, it's been too long", he must have given up booze for a long time.

And he's been given a chance most blokes would love to be given, yet he chooses to piss it down the toilet - if that is any way to pay back your employees in a proffessional sporting environment along with the fans then I'm on the wrong planet!

they play for the football club we support, therefore they do have 'something' to do with us.

why can't we expect them to live the life of a professional athelete?

shouldn't they be concerned about our opinions? we're the ones who effectively pay their wages after all.

But that's his choice. its not his fault he's talented and can make a living out of professional football. if he chooses to have a good time as well then its his choice. look at niall quinn - knocked it back as hard as they come but he was a legend at every club he played for and was a top performer at the highest level for years. for some theres more to life than football.

the fact nicholas is shit is an altogether matter though

I never meant to start a re-run of this drinking/ socail lifes etc of players but something obviosly affected his performance towards the end of the season, if not most of it. maybe it was the management, but you could certainly see that his fitness has been affected- be that down to drink or not. I think he doesn't deserve a contract, and its a shame it was offered before wisey took the reigns.

come on though, you know the chinese whispers effect

nicho may have gone out on a friday night with his mates but come back early or whatever but down the line it gets converted into nicho being blitzed the night before a game. alternatively he goes out on a tuesday but someone makes that into a friday to make a good story

agreed, which is always why i've taken these sorts of rumour with a pinch of salt - unless i see it with my own eyes. that said, i have no reason to disbelieve some people who have said these things.

why did nicho get frozen out under king? why has he underperformed on so many occasions this season? these questions have to be asked and you can only answer them with the information presented, which is that he's entirely unprofessional with respects to his drinking.

dont think its possible to read anything into that mans actions

kings management (and general) style is very similar to steve mcmahon. steve mcmahon who froze out shaun taylor and fraser digby and others. did they have drinking problems? or was it a personality clash?

In McMahon's case it was jealousy that he didn't have the sort of respect and following from the fans as the players - so got rid.

In the case of Nicho it was clearly down to form from what I saw.

I think the fact that so many people say Nicho is out quite often is part of people's disrespect for him though, it's not just all down to word of mouth. I have heard plenty of people who have seen him out a lot, and one said he was out the night before a game.

That to me is asking for trouble, and hopefully Mr Wise will sort it out

what you have described is what is known in the trade as word of mouth. you have no evidence to back it up and as has been said before its probably all vastly exagerrated

I've heard plenty of stories about what Nicho gets up to, obviously I hear some from other people and see some things myself...I do take it all with a pinch of salt though....

However last Saturday I went out, and it was the first time I've been out in about 2 and a half years and not see Nicholas out....I seemed shocked by this, I believe he is currently on holiday.

At the end of the day, I dont mind them having a social life....but does having a social mean you have to get tanked up? because they never seem anything but. I've seen some of players in right states where they cant even stand up.

At the end of the day that cant be good for an athlete.

It doesnt help the fact that 'main' drinkers have performed poorly this season and havent looked fit enough. When they cant perform on the pitch thats when it becomes an issue to me.

Obviously last seasons lack of fitness wasnt all due to drinking but I expect it doesnt help.

Also when they go out drinking the night BEFORE a game, thats just takes the fucking piss......esp when we lose 7-1 the next fucking day.

Hope Wise shapes them up....

I think that a factor in Iffy's demise was that the fans at least had the perception that the players were drinking while putting in poor performances.

If you are a world beater fine, have a drink, but not the night before a game, or the night before that.  Some professionals, even internationals, used to light up a cigarette at half time.  Have a pint after a Saturday game, good luck especially if it followed a good performance.

BUT IF YOU ARE GOING TO PUT ON A SWINDON TOWN SHIRT AND YOU ARE REGULARLY DRUNK, YOU SHOULD BE SUMMONED TO THE CG AND YOU SHALL BE IMMEDIATELY INFORMED THAT YOU ARE ON THE BENCH FOR THE NEXT THREE RESERVE GAMES.  YOU ARE LETTING DOWN YOURSELF, THE MANAGER, THE COACHES, THE BOARD AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE FANS.  IF YOU ARE DRINKING THE NIGHT BEFORE A GAME, EVEN A RESERVE GAME, DON"T LET  THE DOOR HIT YOUR ARSE ON THE WAY OUT.

Im a bit drunk and wearing a Swindon shirt does that include me?

Personaly I dont give a fuck..play well and drink loads is ideal.

Its not a combination you see much these days sadly.

If im honest I think too much is made of the whole 'drink culture' they were crap anyway before they were piss heads.

I was referring to the paid Swindon professionals putting on the Swindon shirt.  However, fans should not vomit in a Swindon shirt unless directed at a Bristol City fan.  Vomitting into cleavage is acceptable, in the event that the  female victim supports Oxford Utd.

Plus most of the Manchester United players know if they step out of line Fergie will get rid of them in a shot...

However, I dont expect the Manchester United players are unprofessional enough to go out the night before a game.

i think you are missing my point yeovil, what im saying is this club is as important to me as man utd is to man utd fans.but are players mentality seems to be well its only swindon i can basically do what i want.as for man utd players doing the same that is bollocks giggs, beckham, sharpe all in their books will tell you that if ferguson finds out they are pissed up they were dropped or sold simple as that, our previous managment decided to go out with them instead..wise is a winner he will not tolerate this shit,,as far as i can see we are a PRO football club.the players should act like pros and not the piss heads they are leading us to believe..

fuck me the robots at honda have more personality...Im all for people being good at stuff but the best people are the flawed ones and the one with problems /personalitys but thats a different arguement.

but im a supporter when i buy a shirt or whatever i am effectivly paying towards a players wages.if they want to repay us by doing what they want they can fuck off.if i did it at my work i would be sacked simple as that..as dv has said it seems to have effected their performance so as far as im concerned i have a right to tell them to fuck off and call them what i want

shearer comes across as boring but he is far from it..it is common knowledge that shearer has allways been one of the lads the practical joker in the team etc,yet has been idolised and worshipped because when he does his business he allways done it in a good professional manner

Not realistic though is it?

We all like to think we could do a job as pros...

we cant..there are probably 1 in a million that have a chance

We sit and think 'if only that was me' but the chances are if that was you you would be the same...its easy for us a supporters to think we would be more loyal/dedicated etc etc but would we?

Its a job end of..maybe its a good/enjoyable job but deep down they will never care like you do and you know it.Get a grip and come to terms with the real world.

It is very unlike Santini to not be backing up his boy Nicholas.

I think Nicho should have a choice of how he drinks. But I also think he should play for the reserves until he wants to be a professional footballer.

No one else saw him being sick on the pitch at McDons after 20 minutes then?

It's something you would expect of a Sunday league player not a Pro.

But they are Pro's paid (by us) to do a job to the best of their ability. That means no drinkies the night before a game. Which many of us have seen them do.

To be fair to some, I have only seen Evans, Fallon and Heywood out after a game.

Bollocks Magnum, this is the point.

Nobody's seen them out on a Friday. I lie, I saw Evans out once, drinking mineral water at what was presumably a family do.

Alright, just because you haven't i know others that have. I saw Pook in Poo Na Na on the Friday before the forest at home game bolloxed.

I have seen various players out the night before a game, not always pissed true, but none the less, surely an early night would be in order.

Well I reckon you're probably talking bollocks.

I sincerely doubt whether going to bet at 8pm for the sake of it would help either.

Yes we won but that's not the point.

These boys are proffesional sportsman. they have a resopsability to the team, to the fans and to themselves.

They are well paid and whilst they do have a short career they do exactly do badly out of it.

Dave, if you were a pro footballer would you not keep off the beer as much as you could? I know I would. It can't help your fitness so why do it?

They have hours on the training pitch to sort their fitness out, the fact that niether of our last 2 managers gave a monkeys about players physical conditions is where the problem lies.

They're young lads who player football not dieticians and doctors.

All very true and i think the lack of fitness is all about the poor pre-season and bad regimes of the managers, I just don't understand the mentallity that says "A night out before the game won't do any harm."

Spot on about pre-season.

I honestly don't think a Friday out (IF they are) does that much harm provided they are sensible. A few quiet pints and they'll be OK, an all night bender is of course different.

I've never seen the players out on Friday night, management however! umm...

Although I didnt see them, they were out in Nottingham on a friday night. I'm sure we all remember the result of that one...

come on, be fair. iffy identified fitness as an area which he was determined to sort out this summer, there was only so much he could do during the course of the season.

however, the fact he's reputed to go out drinking with our players didn't help.

Sadly Dave I think there has been too many benders.

I agree that a couple of pints can't hurt all that much I just think that as a footballer the weekend starts on a saturday night, not friday.
