Title: Evan's old man in the Adver...
Post by: DMR on Monday, May 22, 2006, 16:32:04
... bleating on about people criticising his perfect son.

Anyone else think it's a bit self-righteous, fundamentally we pay his wages, and he's been inept at times too, he rates himself and he's stringing the club along a bit- surely his old fella should just accept that such an attitude is going to attract negativity.

Isn't that right, Santini?

As per my this is response:

Dave - your Evans hated is bordering on the ridiculous now.

He's one of our better players and you really need to accept that. (player of the season anyone?)

Blackpool made him an offer, so he went up there for a look about. I dont see the issue, hes hardly being tapped up is he?

I'm surprised his old fella didnt just come out and say "he's a bit of a cunt actually, that Rhys" :-))(

Hatred? I don't hate the bloke, I think he's arguably our most overrated player in the squad, living off a laboured u21 record who said he's have had a decision for the board 2 weeks ago.

Why's he still here but not contracted?

Bollocks. You slate him at any given opportunity, and have done for about 2 years. (although fair play for sticking to your guns in spite of the overwhelming evidence that you are wrong)

If Evans is overrated I shudder to think what the majority of our squad would be classified as.

Whys he still here but not contracted?  I'd guess hes waiting to see if a better club than Blackpool offer him a deal. My gut feeling is he wont go to blackpool.

For what its worth I rate him based on his performances in an STFC shirt, got fuck all to do with 2 U21 caps 4 years ago.

People who know the bloke personally say he is a good lad Dave. You are making trouble.

Shot-stopping. Catching. Commanding area/defence. Kicking.

Of those 4 key areas for a GK, Evans has one- of which he's top drawer. He's been first pick in a side that's been gloriously relegated, he's clearly not that good.

Of course he's entitled to get himself a better offer. My gripes are; are Blackpool really that much bigger club than us? 4000 in a half built stadium at the foot of the table? No, they're not. So presumably he's moving for money, in which case I'd say about any player "fuck him."

He also stated he'd have given his decision one way or the other weeks ago to allow the club to decide who needs bringing in- along with Sean, whose also messing us about.

If he's pulled the wool over your eyes because of good saves to counter numerous errors, then fine.

Il be horrible to anyone who thinks Blackpool are bigger than us.

Stanley Mathews is ancient history. They are crap. When did they ever bring more than 300 to us? Not in the last 15 years. Remmember 96 when we rammed that bank and had loads in the home end?

(I love ya really STDave  :gay: )

awwwwww luv u 2 babe  :D

the main reason i said they are bigger than us is because they are a league above us now. they also have a better history, and a lot more money.

No, Blackpool are not really a bigger club than us, although obviously they are in a higher division. With thier recent latvian investment they will be selling themselves as  "a club with ambition" and a club going places" It seems reasonable to assume they will be investing in quite a few new players over the summer.

Of the areas you've highlighted only his kicking lets him down in my view and is the least important anyway.

As for getting relegated, you could put any keeper from league 1 (i'd go as far as including the championship) behind our defence (well, mainly Ifill actually)and we'd have still gone down.

i thought it was a pretty good letter, although perhaps a little over-defensive.

however, joining blackpool would be a sidewards move for him right now, even though we're in a league below them.

i think he's a thoroughly decent keeper who can't kick for shit, but if he had all of those 4 key qualities he wouldn't have joined us in the first place.

Of course not, but there's no evidence of them improving in 3 years.

I wonder whether he even has said attributes.

i'd say his kicking has improved over the time he's been here, as has his catching on crosses.

it's difficult for a keeper when you've got a defence in front of you which is about as much use as a chocolate kettle in a bucket with holes in.

Talking of letters, that M Martin is a complete buffoon. He actually thinks Power will make money out of STFC and 'laugh all the way to the bank'.

Get a grip. No one has ever made money out of STFC.

totally agree, the bloke hasn't got a clue - suggesting we get rid of devlin and sullivan, sheer madness.

So then, Iffy pays the ultimate price! Unlucky son – your hands were tied even more than Kingy’s though, given the same amount of time as Kingy I reckon you might have done a better job.

Shame that the atrocious board and management team at STFC didn’t follow Iffy down the road.

New brooms from top to bottom are required Mr Power!

Your reputed £1m input wont go far in solving the club’s finances, although regrettably it may ensure job security for another season for Gray, Devlin, Sullivan & Co, whose apparent expertise in orchestrating another PR disaster regarding the way in which the news was broken about Iffy being replaced knows no bounds.

Having said that, on the pitch it’s all about connections – Wise and Poyet are much more likely to persuade Premier managers to part with promising youngsters on loan for a period than Iffy.

Season ticket sales will increase just on fans’ expectations that Den and Gus are the dream team and may even restore fitness levels to the boot camp days of Lou Macari.

If they achieve as much as Lou did on the pitch by winning the division by a country mile then BP will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Finally can we look forward to the same mouth-watering pre-season warm-up games as last year? All the local Hellenic teams because the Bryan Adams concert?

This, in hindsight, could be useful because if the dynamic duo don’t succeed it will give them an opportunity to appraise next season’s opponents!

M Martin.

I'm not particularly fond of Blackpool either but the last ten years there hasn't been that much seperating us.  I did love seeing our fans on mass in their end that day, still we did win promotion that day, and I seem to remember them bringing a decent enough amount to us earlier that season(never a penalty).  Also Blackpool is a jolly for almost every team in the country.

As for Evans, I'm just happy enough to wait and see.  Don't think he deserves slating.

Evans dad in sticking up for his son shocker. Oh. What he says is fair enough.

If Rhys wants to play at  a higher level, or for more money, or whatever and leaves then so be it. We will replace him, but the fact remains he is a very good player, one of our better ones.

Rhys is a good goal keeper, I can't believe what people are saying. A rocky start and middle but Towards the end of the season he was magnificent and I'm pretty sure if it wernt for him we'd be losing 3-0, 4-0 every weekend. I think he too could be a real asset next season if he decides to stay. You can't knock the bloke really, he's a local lad with a lot of respect for this club - this cristism is a bit unfair. Also the contract thing was a bit off , he's intitled to way up his other options isnt he ? If he does go, I won't be pissed off with him but I'll be a bit gutted obviously but Fair play to him, life goes on.

Morning Sade,
To be honest Rhys is a slighty above average keeper, If he is that special then why is no-one knocking down the door to sign him ? saying that , i would be pleased to see him here next season .

Morning Foggy naked calender porn poser man,
I'd like to see him here next season too. I can't answer your other question really. It was just my personal opinion, I think he's good. Yeah not excellent but relatively good and I think he'll get better.

I've met Rhys on a few occasions every time he's come across as a very decent bloke, been said before but whenever I saw him in Po's he was always on the water, which is good to see, and he always has a chat.

Don't think you can accuse him of arrogance, he's probably guiklty of wanting to test himself at the highest level possible, and if that means at Balckpool then so be it.

Personally I'd like to see Rhys stay and I think the lure of working under the management of Gus and Denis may be the deciding factor.
