Onuora Departs Robins

SWINDON Town have this afternoon parted company with Iffy Onuora.

The Board of Swindon Town FC would like to thank Iffy for all of the hard work that he has put into trying to keep the club in League One. The club recognizes that Iffy took on the job and the challenge, during very difficult circumstances with the team at the bottom of the table.

Iffy Onuora

Iffy Onuora has parted company with Swindon Town FC

Despite the efforts of Iffy and his management team, we were ultimately unsuccessful but we do recognize the difficult conditions that he had to work under. The situation was made that little more harder when the club sold Rory Fallon to Swansea City, although the Board did everything that they could to keep the player at The County Ground.

However, the Board have had to consider what is right for the future of the club, both short and long term, following our return to League Two after twenty years. Even though Iffy has some great qualities, the Board felt that the opportunity to appoint someone of the calibre of Dennis Wise was too great.

It is unfortunate that we have been unable to retain Iffy in a different capacity, and everyone at the club would like to wish him every success in the future.

Iffy's response to the press shows the character of the man. Great dignity. Would have expected no less.

If I were Iffy I would be gutted, annoyed and feel betrayed. I'm not, life's a bitch, new horizons....bring on pre-season!!

I agree. Deserves a lot of merit and wish him every success in the future.  Just a shame it couldn't be part of Swindon Town.

Too minds, would have liked to have seen Iffy given a full season in charge....however....hopefully Dennis Wise manages like he used to play, that will sort the men from the boys

Iffy was in charge for 36 mataches, and it wasn't as if we were like 15 points from safety at this point.  Iffy did an ok job at Town, but ultimately we ended up getting relegated - which isn't good enough.

I wish him good luck for the future  :D

Nice guy, and everyhting anti-Iffy I've said has been football related. I feel for him and wish him well but this is without doubt a) inevitable and b) best for all concerned.

Iffy isn't to blame for us going down, the players are. He wasn't given alot to work with where as Wise probably will as we now have a certain Mr Powers in.

Good luck Iffy where ever you go.

I don't remember seeing this "Iffy will be in charge of the first team next season" quote from the board.

I think Iffy would have learned a lot next season and I think we would have done well, but also accept that that would be a gamble.  The board have taken a tough decision and while the appointment of Wise is also a gamble, it does at least show that the board are ready to make big decisions.

I feel sorry for Iffy, but glad he has walked out with some dignity and wish him well for the future.  My only worry now is that Dennis Wise ends up as a new Neil Rudock, but it should at least generate some interest in the club and get more people though the gate - probably its a good thing, but i'll wait and see how we play..

Neither do I. To my knowledge, no one ever said the words, "Iffy will definitely be our gaffer next season - FACT!".

All comments on the subject were suitably vague as far as I can remember.

Iffy was always going to have a  tough job but the reality is we went down and it was going to be difficult for him to stay in a job especially with Power on board.

The club needs to move on from the King era and I don't think Iffy was able to do that. He may have been able to do it this season, but the club needs new start so it's hardly surprising he wasn't kept on.

Iffy's an intelligent man and I'm sure from the point that Bill Power came on the scene he must have known the writing was on the wall.  It can harldly have come as a shock I wouldn't have thought.

Maybe it could have been handled better, I don't know but football is a cut throat business where people are treated as a commodity.  That is the nature of the beast.

Bill Power was on board from February wasn't he?

This coincides with the downturn in form, did iffy know the writing was on the wall all the way back then and was the loss in form merely a coincidence.

Ha,ha I'm a conspiracy theorist and I talk bollocks.

Heard iffy on the radio this morning, thanked the fans and said we were magnificent to him. He seemed ok about it, I wish him loads of luck for the future. I'd love one day to see him as a really successful manager. Great bloke, deserves it.

I find it hard to criticise what he did here as he was given very little to work wit and got a team starting to play well.

Having said that, I would have chosen Wise and Poyet over him.

Good luck Iffy!

I think we all agree, Iffy was a sound man with honest intentiosn but unfortunately as others have said, football is a ruthless business (sadly losing the sport element at times) I wish him all the luck in the world.
As someone metined as long as we do not have another Ruddock scenario, I'm all for Wise, and I think that Powell is wise (excuse the pun) enough & experienced enough for that not to happen again. He may be small and cheeky but I believe he's got the fire in his belly and the want to achieve, after all he wouldn't have come to a league two club (for his first proper job in management) if he thought he wouldn't be able to really give it a go and get places, have the backing etc!

Dope, I had been dealing with someone at work called Powell, my mind was somewhere else, sorry meant Power!

Gald to see the standard of posts has improved since my menebership of yesteryear! Good old debates hey!

I pretty much agree with that. As much as Iffy did (debatably) do, when you have somebody like Wise available to step in it is hard to stick with Iffy.

It's a shame Nozza wasn't here, he liked a mass debate.
