Title: O'Hanlon and Evans
Post by: Crozzer on Sunday, May 14, 2006, 17:45:48
Friday has been and gone, a verbal committment one way or the other to be received Monday morning.  This in order to agree an offer extension if there is committment to the club.

Monday afternoon, an announcement regarding each player whether negotiations are continuing or over.

Last season, we knew that several players were not going to sign and they didn't, the protracted discussion led to an ineffective pre-season, not to mention non-productive friendlies.  The rest is history.

Losing Evans and O'Hanlon is not a good option, especially Evans, but these players can play in League 1 or better, and committment to the League 2 cause is what is needed.

Thee are reportedly 700 pro soccer players that would be looking for clubs.  CCP can play in central defence.  There must be several goalkeepers looking for a league start having not broken through in the Premiership or Championship, an experienced cover keeper shouldn't be hard to find.

.......agreed, we need Football players, too much "Soccer World Cup" discussion.

At any rate, the club should not tolerate the "if nothing else comes my way, I'll sign," approach.

Bill Shankley didn't sign a player because he was doing a crap job of sweeping the floor, when he visited the player's club.  He even showed him how to use the brush.  To be a Liverpool player under Shankley you had to have the right attitude, enough said.

both evans and o'hanlon could be replaced but i think we're better of not replacing them. evans would be a great keeper in div4 and o'hanlon on his day can be a great defender. we need some sort of consistency not constantly rebuilding a new team every season. the club should be doing all it can to keep these two on. i personally hope they stay

If either of them get offered a contract from a League 1 team, which i think Evans has, i wouldn't be surprised to seem them both leave. They are both good enough to play in league 1 and they both deserve too. If Evans does go though i hope Iffy does find a decent keeper to replace him with. The experienced centre back he's looking for could easily replace O'Hanlon.

Could do a job in League 2. Heaton might be a good bet.

mrs mildenhall also works for the club so i doubt it'd be a move he'd turn down.

We'll need a backup keeper too, some non-league dude maybe ? Or have we got another keeper in the youth ranks ?

I just don't think O'Hanlon and Ifil can play together, so if Sean's heart isn't really in it I think it's best if he goes.  Also think it would be good to have a different skipper, someone who is a true leader.

That keeper who was on loan at Burton Albion and even played in their cup match against Man United, was pretty good and could well be a good shout for a second choice keeper. Maybe even a first choice. He's only young too, so has plenty of time to progress. Saul Deeney is his name.

Gurney? He seemed to have his best season for us, when he was captain in 2003-2004.
Saying that, i feel Peacock would be a good leader or possibly even Paul Smith.

we should do all we can to keep Evans, we wont be able to get another keeper as good as him, where as I think we could easily find a central defender as good as SeanO

Sean O and Rhys will be leaving .. im sure of that

We have to sign Tom Heaton .. Mildenhall wont be leaving Grimsby thats for sure

Centre back - I think someone mentioned Shittu of QPR .. i dont know if he is available but I certainly would sign him if he is ... but losing these two is a big blow -

new captain ??? - either Paul Smith or Lee Peacock .. but most likely it will be Gurney

My next door neighbour but 1 was talking about Evans on the phone to someone earlier(I think he works for the Radio)Apperently hes being offered another improved deal on Thursday/Friday because Devlin was under the false impression that he didnt want to stay so they never put a serious package together. It sounded like he was likley to stay if the money is there or there abouts.

(im dead nosey me)
