Title: gurney- "passion"
Post by: DMR on Sunday, April 23, 2006, 14:07:53
Putting your fingers up to the fans is well out of order, I think.

Gurney's done this before, after we got done 3-0 I think by Cheltenham.

Again people confuse his hot-headedness for passion. He doesn't give a fuck, he's just a lairy idiot.

Being a wanker doesn't make you passionate. Peacock gives a fuck but he doesn't act like AG. Knob.

i didn't see him do it so cant' comment but i disagree about him not giving a fuck.

he's one of the few players who actually cares about both his and the teams level of performance, i'd rather see him in the team than some of the other no hopers we've got who genuinely don't give a toss.

Gurney's a complete no-hoper. Remember when Wigan were prepared to pay big bucks for him? Hahaha. Ditto O'Hanlon- Cardiff.

Without wishing to put too finea point on it, this was a guy who we let go for the real reason that he was fucking his best mates wife.

That's a measure of the man in itself.

But we're paying for the right to do so, not collecting thousands of pounds a week to act like a cunt in front of those who line their pockets.

exactly the point ive been making for weeks. if he scored as many goals as he picks up yellow cards we wouldnt be in this mess. despite this, hes the best we've got, sad but true

Yep, we dont score enough goals all Gurneys fault....ffs it isnt his job to score goals...and for fuck sake get a clue...the last few seasons here Gurney has chipped in with a decent amount of goals...

i was simply trying to highlight the fact that he picks up way too many yellow cards for mouthing off and gets banned hence he is a liability, not that he should be our top goalscorer.

I've weighed up all the pro and anti Gurney arguments and come to the conclusion he should leave. He's a big mouth liability, who is actually quite shit.

do you lot watch the same games as me? I do wonder sometimes...

So Gurney picks up some yellow cards....at least he tackles...unlike most of our team

Title: gurney- "passion"
Post by: dogs on Sunday, April 23, 2006, 15:31:07
He may tackle, usually from behind giving away a free kick. As well as this, he'll often be found wanting positionally, he trys spraying balls to a midget, he takes a freekick that is usually more of a danger to a windscreen than the net, and he'll pester the referee for about quarter of an hour after he's just given away a blatant foul.

Title: gurney- "passion"
Post by: DV on Sunday, April 23, 2006, 15:35:11
Gurney has quiet good positional sense, I dont remember him being caught out of position yesterday, unlike the other players who didnt seem to be 100% sure where they were playing.

His distribution although not 100% accurate is still better than that of Smith, Nicholas, O'Hanlon and Ifil. Plus the midfield should come looking for it and they dont....

Ok, the free kick one I agree with

Lots of players for all teams pester the ref....even at Town, Benjamin is always moaning at the ref but hey, hes not Gurney is he so we dont notice.

Yes, he got booked for dissent yesterday....when was the last time before that, that he got booked for being a gobby shite?

Title: gurney- "passion"
Post by: dogs on Sunday, April 23, 2006, 15:38:14
No idea, but all i see him do is go on and on and on like a twat to the referee, when it's near on guaranteed it was his petulance or poor play that got him booked. It's like he is a spoilt child.

to be fair to gurney i agree, he does have more ability than some of the others.

im only pissed off with gurney purely on his attitude and mentality.

benjamin and shakes have the least ability in the first team. the decision to bring in benjamin was a shocker. they both should give up on football and become plumbers or something

I can guarantee you no-one at STFC is earning thousands a week. Most of them are probably on less than League 2 average. Erm, and obviously when I say "earning" I imply no element of them actually deserving anything!

Im pro gurns live DV.....But this arguement isnt the best against gurns, yes he wastes ALOT of free kicks BUT the management decide the set piece takers before the game, so is it soley his fault?

Nope.

Fuck me I agree with Arriba!!! Gurney seems to be the latest boo boy for some fans. Yeah he should ignore it but I guess he is, well, a bit of a prick so can't.

At least he has a bit of steel and effort about him, unlike much of the gutless/drunk/shit around him.  He's not the worlds most amazing player, but he'll be vital next year.

when he came back i thought it a good move, then i saw him play and thought he wasn't doing too bad. i think desperation that we have a wank midfield has driven him to think he's a fucking stunning passer of the ball and as a result waste alot of passes or freekicks.

i think he's in the top 1/3 of players we have and i would rather have him playing for us than against us.

Post by: le god cuervo on Monday, April 24, 2006, 08:36:19
when he came back from swansea he was brought in as a player to bolster the midfield. he should still be playing there IMO. at least that way he is less likely to hoof long balls forward.

with the absence of paul smith you would expect gurney to fill that holding role. I don't know why iffy's been playing him at the back when all the defenders are fit? we have o'hanlon, CCP, nicholas, jenkins, j.smith, ifil... even migz would be better at the back

Title: gurney- "passion"
Post by: normy on Monday, April 24, 2006, 09:23:06
Because the defenders you mention have proved to be incapable all season of passing accurately short or long, especially when under pressure. This has meant constantly losing possession and further pressure.Migz is capable when on form, but that was a long time ago.

With a poor midfield, except with a fit Paul Smith, often  the only option to scrape points was to bypass the "midfield" and hope for flickons, shielding before support, or gain territory and a throw-in. Other teams often do this very successfully against us, and wait for a mistake, which usually happens.

I have watched Gurney carefully the last two home games, and even a Gurney-hater I sit by agreed with me that most of his long "hoofs" went close to one of ours for a challenge, or gained lots of terrotory and a throw-in. This has worked quite well with Peacock and McPhee holding it up in my view, but the support has generally been poor from behind, the usual problem. We had a few good chances which were missed despite this, so it could have worked.
Four at the back should have been played as I have said all season, and we have paid heavily. That's how I see it anyway.

It is hard to contemplate buying yet another season ticket to provide access to yet more aimless hoofing, especially if Gurney is driven away by unfair criticism, a weak midfield remains, unforced changes are made every week, three at the back continues, the alleged drinking culture continues, and the "team" does not seem to know what they are supposed to do.

Apart from that, looking forward to losing at home to Accrington.

 :(

He did stick the finger up, but was getting some quite nasty personal abuse aimed at him.  So what?  It's nothing worth hanging a bloke about.  He's never a centre half.  He might be an arse, and he can literally go to pieces in games.  He's no worse than anyone else out on the pitch on Saturday though.

Technically I think not.  Physically, mentally and organisationally, then yes you are right.  Those three can make all the difference at this level of football and we've been found wanting, collectively on all 3 counts this season.

things like what happened to gurney really fuck me off. fair enough he's pissed me off a huge about of times but what happened on saturday u cant blame. in recent weeks people in the townend have been booing gurney when the team sheet is read out and then when he came to defend a corner on saturday everyone started swearing at him and told him to get out. for that reason i fully defend him when he stuck his fingers up. when your own fans do that it gets out of order. everytime he boots the ball up he gets booed but then you see everyones reaction when nicolas etc do it. you hear nothing. you cant expect him to play well when your own fans treat him like that.

Ive sent Devlin a pie question the other day, they always run out of pies and now this!!!

If you could eat loads of stuffing as your last meal it might make you tastier to eat for the gathered masses.Did I mention we are going to eat you?

Ooh, how you are all going to regret my beer intake in the past 2 days.  I'm not sure there is anything worth eating in me now, although a slight pickled taste may come through.

Saw the pie one, I'll be adding my own vent about the Catering Manager.  Walking around all suited while I was suffering malnutrition after not getting my Bacon Roll.  Of course, if it's a Chicken Casserole with vegetables you want, they have it.  But no bacon rolls, burgers, hot dogs, and wait 15 mins for the chips beacue they only ever have enough for 2 plates.
