Title: Hoddle
Post by: Crozzer on Sunday, April 23, 2006, 00:48:15
From the BBC:

"Wolverhampton 1-0 Brighton
Wolves narrow win against relegated Brighton was over-shadowed by demands for Glenn Hoddle's sacking and the board's resignation from supporters.
Kenny Miller scored the winner from the spot in the 31st minute after Paul McShane handled Mark Kennedy's corner.

But the Molineux crowd made their feelings clear with chants of "disaster", "Hoddle out" and "sack the board" throughout the game.

Jeremie Aliadiere and Colin Cameron hit the woodwork as Wolves dominated."

Mark McGhee: "But I thought we still did enough to win the game because we played better than Wolves, we just didn't take any of the chances we made."  :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

I don't care if Hoddle thinks that some of our stewards were burnt at the stake in a previous life, and that Gary Elkins was previously Queen Victoria, somebody get on the phone to him.

thing is though, i dont think he would be as good a manager second time round because he would be on that pitch leading by example...happy to be proven wrong though....infact he would probably still be our best midfielder....player manager again

If he went on the pitch now, he probably would still be the best midfielder as you say.

Would love to see him back, but then if it didn't work out he'd get remembered for that and not the good job he did first time round.

Also he inherited a good squad of players the last time he joined who were struggling after the disapointment of the "demotion"; this time he isn't!

No religious nutters today please.

We think we have a divine right to win the league now, imagine what it would be like if he were manager.

Bring back god, he could still play in the championship, he never had pace, he was always a thinker.

By far one of the most intelligent players ever.

Not that i am biased in any way.

You are having a laugh surely????????

I would not be at all happy if Hoddle came back. It was his execptional playing ability that got us into the Premiership rather than his management skills and I know for a fact that the players did not like him.

He is also not cut out for the lower divisions. I'm sure Glenda would really relish a trip to Boston on a wet Tuesday night in November. It's horses for courses and if we don't stick with Iffy I would like to see Holloway come in.

Holloway would be class, if only for his post match interviews.

“To put it in gentleman's terms, if you've been out for a night and you're looking for a young lady and you pull one, you've done what you set out to do. We didn't look our best today but we've pulled.

Some weeks the lady is good looking and some weeks they're not. Our performance today would have been not the best looking bird but at least we got her in the taxi.

She may not have been the best looking lady we ended up taking home but it was still very pleasant and very nice, so thanks very much and let's have coffee.”

On a serious note he's done well at the lower league level and think he'd prove to be a success.

OST you wouldnt have been the legend that you are without him.

Of course him playing was a big part in us going up, but he made a lot of very normal players play some great football.

I think this is all a bit of fun, we couldnt afford him any way....i also like like Holloway, he will go to a bigger club and would also be out of our price range i think.

I would still have Glenn back......im sure if i put a link to the get glenn back to swindon site on a wolves forum it would shoot up in votes for him to return to the county ground.

I realise it's all pretty hypothetical.  There is no way Hoddle would drop below Championship level, he would be like a fish out of water.

That is a fantastic quote from Holloway - He should be appointed on the basis of that alone!

the best bit about the quote is the final "and let's have coffee" line.  Genius.

Here are some more gems:

"It was lucky that the linesman wasn't stood in front of me as I would have poked him with a stick to make sure he was awake."
- Holloway states his opinion about the linesman's performance in a game against Bristol City.

"It's all very well having a great pianist playing but it's no good if you haven't got anyone to get the piano on the stage in the first place, otherwise the pianist would be standing there with no bloody piano to play."
- after being criticised for using defensive players in midfield.

"You can say that strikers are very much like postmen: they have to get in and out as quick as they can before the dog starts to have a go."

I always say that scoring goals is like driving a car. When the striker is going for goal, he's pushing down that accelerator, so the rest of the team has to come down off that clutch. If the clutch and the accelerator are down at the same time, then you are going to have an accident."

"Every dog has its day, and today is woof day! Today I just want to bark!"
- Holloway after securing promotion to the Championship.

"When my wife first saw Marc for the first time, she said he was a fine specimen of a man. She says I have nothing to worry about, but I think she wants me to buy her a QPR shirt with his name on the back for Christmas."
- on QPR's new Danish striker Marc Nygaard.

"There was a spell in the second half when I took my heart off my sleeve and put it in my mouth."

"I am a football manager. I can't see into the future. Last year I thought I was going to Cornwall on my holidays but I ended up going to Lyme Regis."
- asked whether QPR would be able to beat Manchester City.
