Registering and doing it are two quite different things....running is a tedious activity....you could walk it in 4 hours and see what's going on around you, with no training.

Absolutely.  Start off at a pace that you can keep without getting out of breath(doesn't matter how fast), and just work towards getting the distance.  I'm no runner and I managed 21 miles in Lithuania.  It did take about 4 days to recover mind...

Right, let's all sponsor Yeovil, so he has to do it   - we could force him into fitness. And we could have a side-bet on what a fit and helathy Yeovil would actually look like.

You just wouldn't collect very much in sponsorship money.

In fact I'll sponsor you a tidy sum for no mileage...who is the beneficiary Swindon Borough Council and GWR FM?

I might have a go, was thinking about doing a marathon at some stage. I walked 15 miles to get home last year and that wasn't too bad, took about 2 and a half hours to 3 hours but walked most of it, also had to push my mate in a shopping trolley for a bit, lazy git.

Prefer sprinting though really.

Do it Yeovil if I can manage a half marathon anyone can.

Fuckers at work have signed me up for a 30 mile walk in June as well.

I ran this 2 years ago, and may run it again this year....depends if we have a football match or not.

I did no training for it, just turned up and did it....about 2 hours 7 if I remember correctly....but obviously im not an old fat drunkard....

But plenty of old fat drunkards do it, when I ran it a guy who came last did it in full army gear, with a packed back pag and a gas mask on.

You could do it in fancy dress Yeovil....

I had no idea that Yeovil was disabled.

If it's not rude to ask, what did happen to his eyes?

Give it a go Yeovil.

I found out yesterday that my sister is doing the London Marathon walk for life in May, it's for Breast Cancer and they walk the course at night, all 26+ miles. She's been following the instructions re training they sent her, did a 14 mile walk yesterday (her 2nd one this week) and aims to do the 26 mile walk in 6 hrs.

It aint.

Im struggling to stop smoking and cant breath walking the dogs.

Thats a lie I do manage to run/walk twice a week but it really makes my shins hurt when I run.I looked up a training schedule on the Bupa site and they recomended day on day off with a slow build up.Ive been doing it twice a week and playing football on a Sunday(usually 3 on 3 rush keepers cos nobody turns up) which fucks even the fitest amongst my friends up.

Im basically unable to commit myself to anything thats good for me and it pisses me off.Ive not fully given up hope....but hope and motivation is lets say in very short supply.

Do you stretch your muscles Yeovs?

I get tight calves and hamstrings which causes my knees/shins to hurt. I had physio years ago for my knees and simple stretches sorted them out. I can't really be arsed to do them every day though, so don't usually bother nowadays, just put up with cramps in my legs  :|

Keep at it Yeovil, you can come netball training with me if you want, surely chasing after fit girlies in short skirts is an incentive?

Yeovil, when i started running i did short 1 mile runs but very fast to build your fitness up quickly. Your lungs should be burning and your heart beating at about 160-170 bpm depending on age and fitness.

I now do 5 miles in 40 mins and am not out of breath.

Try running up slight gradients too Yeovil, gentle jogging up a hill will give you more back in fitness than sprinting on the flat.
