I hate using macs, everything is so much more complicated. They don't even have a fucking right mouse button.

I've done some stuff with a G4 PowerBook....and a very fine bit of kit it is too.

Same here, detest them.  As a standalone they're a cracking bit of kit in their own right but having been brought up on PC's I find them dreadful to use.

Mainstream hardware and software are so god damn cumbersome to use with them unless they're Mac specific.

The media world all use them as they're much better for graphic stuff but sharing files between any other company who usually use PC's is like putting a slug in a slot machine.

The reason people find Macs better is because of the operating system (in general). The point of the article is that they can run windows, which would be as bad/good as a pc.

have you used them much daz and ben? their simplicity is one of the best things, so easy to use.

Risc OS was the best operating system back in the day. Beat the shit out of Windows. Unfortunately, not many people bought into Acorn computers.

I've used them a fair bit unfortunately.

I had to use one the other day in uni and it had usb slots in the keyboard, seems like a decent idea except when I tried to plug in my usb drive thing it didn't have enough power to run it so it didn't work anyway.  :?

Windows is a piece of piss to use, macs everything takes ages for me, whenever you minimise anything it tends to get lost somewhere because the toolbar is shit.

Also I had to shut down my usb drive before taking it out and it still complained, windows you just put it in, take it out, simple as that. The internet and printer didn't work either and then it crashed and wouldn't let me log back on because I was already logged on apparently. Fucking joke. Too much hassle.

I prefer the look of windows as well. Even using windows on a mac would be pointless because they're more expensive anyway. Don't think I'll be getting one any time soon.

I use a G5 at work and a G4 at home due to my job, graphics stuff as Daz said. Fucking love them.

Most people would say it's a lot easier to move from pc to mac than mac to pc. The simplicity of using the OS system is a massive bonus.

In the future though, as Apple move into other areas, iPods, iTunes etc.. many in the industry suspect they will continue developing OS, but will stop producing the actual computers and just sell the operating sytem to someone who already makes computers, eg: Dell.

I’ve used them a fair bit but being brought up on PC’s and using them daily I just don’t find a Mac intuitive to use at all and a murderous pain in the arse.

It comes down to applications and what you want to use it for.  For media stuff they’re cracking but most of the stuff I need to run at home and work is all designed primarily with Windows or a PC in mind.

Just looking at the problems and reams of support and tinkering some people go through just to run applications or hardware a PC usually does in a drop of a hat has put me off for life.  Last week I spent about 4hrs sorting out a 3.5G network card on a Mac notebook that takes 2 minutes to sort on a PC.

Then there’s price, I’ve had my core unit which I built from scratch for a few years and it’s a piece of piss and a delight to upgrade.  You can upgrade them but unless you are prepared to pay and put the time in they tend to age badly.

I’m sure running Windows will help but lord knows how stable it will be.  Probably quite good but they’re not supporting it so it could end up a nightmare.

<rant>Nope, Mac OSX runs better than Windows. Big difference. Apple hardware is limited and expensive (although will get less so now they can run on Intels) but for most people the "much more stable/usable than PCs" thing boils down not to the hardware but the that Macs now run a decent stable Unix-alike OS as opposed to the flaky, living security nightmare that is Windoze. So, get one of the Linux distros (Suse/Novell or Ubuntu) run it on a PC and get the best of both worlds - stable, reliable OS (which isn't breeding more viruses than an al-Qaeda germ warfare lab) together with cheap commodity hardware you know, understand, and already own and a proper mouse! You knows it makes sense.

That's the point I was trying to make. You'll find better hardware per pound in a pc, and it's all to do with the OS.

Had a Mac for a while now and would never, ever buy a PC again. Over-complicated bins.

Acorn strongARM, a fine piece of kit... unfortunately the fact that it doesn't exist any more means I only have one paper copy of my thesis and a CD that no computer can read..

My sister has a Mac. I don't like it, find it very fiddly to use and the mouse only has 1 button.

Think I'll stick with the PC.
