King didn't pick him over Freddy Eastwood. Opera came here in June 2004. Eastwood didn't come on trial until September 2004 and King wanted to sign him but Southend managed to take him on loan first.

It certainly was not a choice between Opera and Eastwood, so you shouldn't believe it either Dave because it's not even true.

Not true Ben.  I was there when Kingy went scouting for a striker.  Him and the southend manager were picking, and in the end it was a choice between Eastwood and Opara.  Kingy had first pick but went for Lloyd, leaving the disappointed Southend gaffer with Eastwood.

I repeat we signed Eastwood in June 2004. Eastwood had a trial with us in September 2004.

We missed out on Bradley Orr too, and he's done fuck all apart from have fights in nightclubs. There are always players we wished we'd signed or not signed, just like there are those we are relieved to have got or not got.

  I don't think its necessarily the case that if Eastwood had come here, he'd have been a success, just because he is at Sarfend.

Every manager in the league is able to give you a list of half a dozen names that they turned down who went on to have successful careers. Especially with young players it's just the way things are.

You can't sign every striker on the off chance they might come good or you end up as Sheffield United, the only club in the league that can field a team in a 2-8 formation.

Bit of a fuck up that he was never persued by King after that reserve game and eventually joined Saaaaaaaarfend but I suppose that's the way football goes.  

That said if I'd have given you a straight choice at the time between Eastwood and Henderson I don't think there's many that would choose the latter.

I thought that after king went the anti-king stuff would stop a bit. Seems I was wrong. King was ace, easily the best manager we've had since hoddle. Although I'd like to have seen Quinn given more of a chance and Gorman is doing seems to be doing a good job at wycombe.

Maybe it's Chelsea.
