Looks like he's going to get another chance of League Football with Peterborough. I hope he gives it a bit longer this time. Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: janaage on Monday, March 6, 2006, 10:09:02 Someone's got to go on the posh sites and big up Lloyd.
"He was our new saviour but Kingy wouldn't give him a chance...." Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: DMR on Monday, March 6, 2006, 10:53:52 I still can't belive King picked him over Freddy Eastwood. I mean really, what a fucking imbecile.
Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: my-velocity on Monday, March 6, 2006, 11:15:32 Kingy was an idiot then :soapy tit wank:
Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: Spud on Monday, March 6, 2006, 12:01:00 Quote from: "stfcbeckett" Kingy was an idiot :soapy tit wank: Thats better. :) Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Monday, March 6, 2006, 12:19:34 King didn't pick him over Freddy Eastwood. Opera came here in June 2004. Eastwood didn't come on trial until September 2004 and King wanted to sign him but Southend managed to take him on loan first.
It certainly was not a choice between Opera and Eastwood, so you shouldn't believe it either Dave because it's not even true. Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: janaage on Monday, March 6, 2006, 12:22:02 Not true Ben. I was there when Kingy went scouting for a striker. Him and the southend manager were picking, and in the end it was a choice between Eastwood and Opara. Kingy had first pick but went for Lloyd, leaving the disappointed Southend gaffer with Eastwood.
Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Monday, March 6, 2006, 12:25:12 I repeat we signed Eastwood in June 2004. Eastwood had a trial with us in September 2004.
http://www.thisisstfc.co.uk/News_Headlines_Story.asp?NewsID=3548 Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: DMR on Monday, March 6, 2006, 12:27:07 The point is he turned Eastwood away. What an effing loon.
Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: Spud on Monday, March 6, 2006, 12:27:44 Yes Eastwood had a trial and the prick that is King turned him down its as simple as that really.
Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: janaage on Monday, March 6, 2006, 12:28:07 And I repeat Kingy shouldn't have picked first, the spastic left at the end always scores a screamer and gets mobbed by the team.
Also Gazza tipped Kingy off about Freddie too in 1991, but Andy knew best. Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Monday, March 6, 2006, 12:29:53 That's not even true either Dave/Spuddy, we didn't turn Eastwood down, he merely joined another club first. At the time we were pre-occupied with trying to complete a deal for Darius Henderson.
Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: janaage on Monday, March 6, 2006, 12:36:37 Ben your Andy King blinkered spectacles are letting you down again. Admit it Andy King did give the sign off for the holocaust!! He is an evil man who should be punished by an Austrian court of law.
Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: Sade on Monday, March 6, 2006, 12:38:47 Opara's a legend :D
Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: DV on Monday, March 6, 2006, 12:53:27 If King had a brain he wouldnt have let Southend poach Eastwood in the first place....
Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: Spud on Monday, March 6, 2006, 12:57:05 No Andy didnt have a chance, Eastwood chose Southend. Pfffffft! :-))(
Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: McLovin on Monday, March 6, 2006, 14:51:07 Does it really matter? Honestly?
We missed out on Bradley Orr too, and he's done fuck all apart from have fights in nightclubs. There are always players we wished we'd signed or not signed, just like there are those we are relieved to have got or not got. Good point, another was Norris who went to Plymuff....he did good for a bit, not sure where he is now. I don't think its necessarily the case that if Eastwood had come here, he'd have been a success, just because he is at Sarfend. Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: Lumps on Monday, March 6, 2006, 18:44:06 Every manager in the league is able to give you a list of half a dozen names that they turned down who went on to have successful careers. Especially with young players it's just the way things are.
You can't sign every striker on the off chance they might come good or you end up as Sheffield United, the only club in the league that can field a team in a 2-8 formation. Hindsights a wonderful thing. But I'm sure if we looked back you were all equally enthusiastic about Junior Agogo who's done fuck all at Rovers.(But at least has an amusing name). Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Monday, March 6, 2006, 18:49:53 Eastwood or Opara? unfortunatly King chose the latter :wanker:

I stand corrected. Anyway the points the same. Six months into his Rovers contract the boards were full of "thank fuck we didn't sign him, King was mad to offer that sort of money" comments. .......And I only brought him up 'cause his name makes me think of that Umbongo advert... ...they drink it in the Congo apparently Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: Bob's Orange on Monday, March 6, 2006, 19:21:07 Quote from: "Lumps" Quote Um, excuse me for being pedantic but he scored 20 goals last season and has 15 so far this. I used to love that advert! :D Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: Dazzza on Monday, March 6, 2006, 19:39:37 Poor old Loyd I hope he does make a go of it and talking of Eastwood did the pair ever play together at Grays?
I have a feeling Eastwood arrived at Grays the same summer Opara left. Bit of a fuck up that he was never persued by King after that reserve game and eventually joined Saaaaaaaarfend but I suppose that's the way football goes. That said if I'd have given you a straight choice at the time between Eastwood and Henderson I don't think there's many that would choose the latter. Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: flammableBen on Monday, March 6, 2006, 19:42:49 I thought that after king went the anti-king stuff would stop a bit. Seems I was wrong. King was ace, easily the best manager we've had since hoddle. Although I'd like to have seen Quinn given more of a chance and Gorman is doing seems to be doing a good job at wycombe.
Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: McLovin on Monday, March 6, 2006, 19:52:25 God no, not the Shitey Quinn...
Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: Dazzza on Monday, March 6, 2006, 19:56:42 I went off Quinn after those comments he made when Iffy took over. Not really malicous but not very nice all the same.

Maybe it's Chelsea. Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: yeo on Thursday, March 9, 2006, 18:22:06 Could be a player that flourishes in the top flight but cant handle the hussle and bussle of lower league football. To be honest I cant remember seeing him play.

What's going on? Are Chelsea handing out trials to everyone and anyone. They had that other non-league lad we were looking at a few weeks ago on trial as well. Title: Lloyd Opara Post by: STFC Village on Friday, March 10, 2006, 11:50:52 :jaw2:
