Title: Heres a thought... Post by: STFCere on Sunday, March 5, 2006, 15:30:11 how do you guys think we would have done this season if we managed to hold onto Parkin
ie. present shite + Parkin ? no theres a thought... given that the midfield isnt really a midfield, the service would be crap but i reckon he'd still be on about 15 goals at this stage so my guess: won 9 drawn 15 lost 11 mid table 42 pts goal difference = 0 Title: Heres a thought... Post by: Tails on Sunday, March 5, 2006, 15:56:47 if we kept hold of him he would have gone in january
Title: Heres a thought... Post by: DV on Sunday, March 5, 2006, 15:58:29 Probably about the same as last season, possible a bit lower.....around 13th/14th place.
However, if we had kept hold of Parkin, then other players might have stayed as well Title: Heres a thought... Post by: STFCere on Sunday, March 5, 2006, 16:51:49 just a purely hypothetical question

Title: Heres a thought... Post by: Tails on Sunday, March 5, 2006, 17:07:39 FWIW, I think Cureton on form is a far better striker than Parkin.
Title: Heres a thought... Post by: reeves4england on Sunday, March 5, 2006, 17:14:22 Debatable. But Curo has been good since he came back.
I dont think Parkin would have been flying, 15 goals maybe Title: Heres a thought... Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Sunday, March 5, 2006, 17:32:49 heres one for ya. if we didnt have King at the start of the season and had Iffy would we be near the play offs? i think so
Title: Heres a thought... Post by: Tails on Sunday, March 5, 2006, 17:35:34 If you look at the league table since Iffy has been in charge I think we are around 9th/10th. Although we were 7th a few weeks ago.

Parkin got us 20+ goals a season. Cureton has 6 and its March. Title: Heres a thought... Post by: reeves4england on Sunday, March 5, 2006, 18:14:44 The point is we have Iffy now, and if he is as good as some say, then he neds to get us out of this. I personally think he has made a big difference, although the play-offs is optimistic. I just hope he can help us get out of this
Title: Heres a thought... Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Sunday, March 5, 2006, 18:18:47 Parkin is the best strinker we had for ages! possibly since the days of Jannage

Title: Heres a thought... Post by: janaage on Monday, March 6, 2006, 09:40:21 Would have done well until he got injured, then we'd have been in the shit. Like we are now.
I'm happy the bloke moved, good to see someone's career progress, as it will when he returns from injury. Now what about if Alan McLoughlin had never left? Would we still be struggling then? Alan Mac, Horlock, Moncur and Ling could have all played together with Digby, Calderwood, Taylor, Gittens, Kerslake, Hoddle, Bodin, Summerbee, Shearer, White and Maskell. That would have been a pretty good team in the Prem. All at their peaks within a 3 year period probably. Title: Heres a thought... Post by: janaage on Monday, March 6, 2006, 09:57:08 Especially as you'ver names 15 players. I'm sure there's a rule about that.
White was never Prem class, brilliant lower league but never top level. Nor was Maskell really. Title: Heres a thought... I would have liked to have seen Chalky in the top flight earlier in his career though, to see if he would have done better. I agree with you about Maskell too. 25 goals (i think) in the 92-93 season, then after that his career seemed to peter out, didn't do much at Southampton from memory. Whereas if he'd stuck in Div 1 (as it was at the time) he'd have probably done better. But then he wanted to see if he could perform at the top level. And I will never ever forget his goal in the play off final. I was right behind the goal, and the sound of the ball hitting the post sends chivers up my spine thinking about it even now.
