Title: Itchy Feet
Post by: Dazzza on Friday, February 24, 2006, 23:41:56
I've seriously got itchy feet at the moment.  Serious urges to fuck off and get back on the travelling trail once again.

Unfortunately just buying an apartment hasn't helped with the necessary fundage.  Fortunately while I wait for yet another delayed departure date I’ve hopefully got Burning Man in Vegas lined up for later in the year.

Anyone else off on their travels in the near future?

Share the love….

I thought you meant you literally had itchy feet. Perhaps a bath would help?

I'm fucking counting the days till November 18th myself Daz, Australia won't know whats hit them.

How long you going for?

You'll fucking love it.  Make sure you head to Byron Bay.

3 months provisionally, my dad's best man has lived out there for years so lodging there for the first 3-4 weeks (Canberra) and see what happens, I'd like to move about the country a bit though. I say provisionally because the truth is if something came up job and accomadation wise then I've already decided thats where I'd stay, what with my Uni plans going rapidly downhill. Had a difficult few months and can't wait, we're off to Germany after our exams. Like I say mate, counting the days. Shitting it too.

You'll love it.

Are you heading off on your own or with mates?

The best time I had was on my own.  I fucking loved it.  Stay in the hostels cheap as monkey nuts and you'll meet new playmates every night and plenty of new meat especially in the mixed rooms!

On my own to Oz, 6 mates for Germany. I don't think I'll be into this meat scene though

Nice one.

My top tips would have to be…

Get yourself one of those youth hostel association card things
Steer clear of Aborigines, placid bunch but all fucking piss heads.  Every damn one.
Don’t pick fruit and I’m not talking about the meat.  Fucking back breaking

Pretty sure it's 18 but make sure in the cities you take ID as a lot of clubs will ID everyone as due course and no ID no getting in.

I assume a British driving license would hold up. Don't fancy risking my passport.

I risked the passport as I can't drive to save my life!

Not sure but can you get an International license if you have a British one?  That should do you.

Yeah, you're right. Better look into that soon, it'll take months if the DVLA are anything to go by!

Make sure you take a photocopy of your passport as well in case you lose it.  Will make your life 100 times easier if you do.

Word. Whats the state in Oz regarding smoking? Generally I'm all for this banning it but I'm becoming an increasingly social smoking smoker.

Few years since I was there but I think it's still as normal.  Plus you can buy tabs from behind the bar in a lot of places so you don't get ripped to shit on machines.

Right, I'm in the early stages of planning a couple of weeks travelling in August. Have narrowed the list down to:
China
Brazil
Mexico
Vietnam
Japan
Thailand
South Africa

I need to eliminate 6 of these. Recommendations would be appreciated from those of you in the know.

Will I find enough to do for two weeks in those places?

You can't go far wrong with any of those from what I've herd.

If you do Thailand make sure you're there for a full moon and you could easily take in Vietnam travelling overland.  Having said that you may find a couple of weeks aren't long enough.

Mate has done Brazil but did admit it was a struggle without any Portugese.

Could try...

End of August going to get my tickets in a couple of weeks then play in Vegas for a week after.

Cheers, gives me a bit more to think about. Was planning to leave 8-9th August, so Burning Man will be too late for us.

better than that scan the passport and send it to your email with a copy to home.  Lose it and print it off

Fucking hell thats the most sensible suggestion ive ever come up with, and after I lost my passport last month.

thailand is good if you have never travelled before because its an easy way into independent travelling as there are som many fuckin students pissing around there, in some parts of bangkok there are more westerners than thais.

south africa i found awkward espescially on the east coast round the durban area, it might have been as if the anc didnt exist, very much apartheid still around this coast.

i would always opt for mexico! if you need detailed stuff about my homeland dont hesitate to ask.

Indo China is a good one, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.....Angkor Wat is supposed to be amazing.

You can always throw in Thailand too if you fancy the extra bit.

I've never really fancied travelling to be honest. I'm not really in to the whole pikey youth hostel thing. Having said that I've been to quite a few different places over the years on holiday so its not like I've never seen the world outside Swindon :|

I'd love to go to Aus though, may think about going in a couple of years time, one of my best mates lives in sydney these days.

Holiday wise i'm going to spain at the end of April to stay with my dad for a week. The lazy cunt has retired out there

Youth hostels are superb in certain countries.  Oz being the best example, full of a new set of playmates every day and to date everyone I've ended up crashing in with has been superb.

No pikeys and some of them are them are better than a standard hotel.

Places like Thailand and the like are so cheap anyway you can get a whole beach side bungalow ensuite for less than a fiver a night.

End of my trip to Peru I was staying in 5 star hotels for 30 quid a night!

Spot on.

beach bungalows are ace.  £4 a night for basic..........excellent.

Fiji is dormitory kind of accommodation but its really really nice.

You pay £25 a night inclusive of 3 meals - superb.

How was Peru?  Supposed to be great, did you do machu Picchu?

Pretty good, still in touch and on the back burner.

Is that a new Mexican chick or the lass that came over before?

Not sure when I'm going back to Peru.  It's a bastard to get to in terms of flights which  makes it pretty pricey when compared to everywhere else.

Last trip I clocked up 10 flights in just over three weeks and had two unscheduled stops in Columbia.

May ship her over here eventually but seeing a couple of natives at the moment and I don't think I could juggle three at once with one live in.

Superb, very friendly folks, reasonably cheap and so much to see you need months there really.

Did the quick version of Mach Pichu not the full trek malarky.

Although again you really need Spanish up your sleeve to survive on our own.
