Title: Paul McAreavey.... Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Monday, February 20, 2006, 20:37:27 .....as we speak is playing for Linfield against Derry City in the Setanta Sports Cup. He appears to be their main man in heart of the midfield. I don't know what the deal is with Derry, they've been playing in the FAI for years as there was too much of a security risk with them playing teams from the north. I will have to check that out.
Any way, I just thought I would share that with you. Latest score, 1-1. Title: Paul McAreavey.... Post by: Dazzza on Monday, February 20, 2006, 20:43:47 Herd he was doing very well.
I must check up on my Paddy football, always like to check up on Keith O'Haloran and Danny Murphy and see how they are getting on. Title: Paul McAreavey.... Post by: Reg Smeeton on Monday, February 20, 2006, 20:55:58 McAreavey.....would have to be a leading contender along with Edwin Murray for the best only league goal scored by an STFC player.
McAreavey scoring v Oldham on a wet and windswept, after a dribble one two and clinical finish. Other contenders springing to mind....Domenic Foley v Brishole Shitty....Colin Heath v Yeovil ....Marlon Broomes v Brum.....Mike Graham v Wimbledon? Shaun Close v Scum......David Kerslake v Scum......feel free to add contenders. Title: Paul McAreavey.... Had a bit more of a think about this and other notable contenders for best only goal for STFC....would have to include Glenn Cockerill v Gillingham in 80......Roy Wegerle v Bradford City around 88/89....Tony Grant v Hull? 95/96....Brian Marwood diving header from Osman's miskick v Shitty in 93. Even Tony Thorpe could get on this list. Title: Paul McAreavey.... Post by: McLovin on Monday, February 20, 2006, 22:05:43 Kevin Watson v Grimsby Town... Always thought it was amusing that he signed for Linfield seeing as Linfiled are a big proddy team and Macca is a huge celtic fan. Pleased to see him doing well though. Title: Paul McAreavey.... Harry was a legendary hard man from the 30's and may have got a few in post war.....he played 300+ games and scored the once v Torquay around 37. He then was trainer for years including doing the job in 69. This was a sort of pre physio thing...whereby you ran on with a bucket of cold water and stuffed a wet sponge down the players shorts.....Harry would then encourage said player to "run it off" in his Chesterfield accent. Harry's son Pete has been a stalwart of the local Swindon music scene for what seems like a 100 years now....in a variety of bands. Pete's DJing in my local once a month on a Sunday night is always worth a listen as he dips into his collection of classic Soul, R and B originals and particularly Ska and reggae. Title: Paul McAreavey.... Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Tuesday, February 21, 2006, 16:18:25 How many did John Trollope score in his 700+ appearances? I don't imagine him being a goal scoring machine. Did he get any?
Title: Paul McAreavey.... Post by: Johno on Tuesday, February 21, 2006, 16:23:48 scored 28 goals according to www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk in 886 appearances!

Trolley normally would be good for 1 or 2 a season....one of his more memorable efforts was v Scum in a 4-0 demo job at the CG around 72. Arthur Horsfield got a hat trick....Trolly had gone on one of his overlapping runs...got played in by can't remember who and lashed it in from the edge of the box without breaking his run as he continued. Think Nicho has only the one league goal at Stockport... Title: Paul McAreavey.... Its interesting you should mention Watford as rivals.... There always used to be a bit of trouble against them....in the famous 69 game large scale mayhem...... When they became a family club though under Graham Taylor...it just sort of disappeared....and I can't think of any in recent times. Title: Paul McAreavey....
