It's gonna be a tough game, I expect Southend will bring a fair few. It's quite warm today, lets hope it stays that way  :D

Seems like we've got a Sven situation-King hasn't got the bollocks to drop one of Pook Migz or Whalley(who should be left out in my opinion)so we get left with Pook moving out of the middle where he's been our best midfielder so far.Shakes should be in with Whalley on the bench.

Just heard King on the radio-apparently" Smith has done ok on the left of midfield since he came here from Man Utd but he's really a right midfielder."Is it any wonder we dont know what were doing!

Team is in:

heaton
smith
ifil
collins
gurney
nicolau
whalley
miglioranzi
pook
fallon
cureton

subs:
jenkins
bulman
shakes
roberts
thorpe

i'd have liked to see starts for thorpe and shakes, but since my experience of this season is limited to listening over the radio I probably don't know what I am taking about. probably

I have got it working now by clicking on the audio commentary rather than the match live console - but it cuts out rather annoyingly for a few seconds every so often.  Still better than BBC essex though, they don't even say anything when Swindon are on the ball !

Hadwin - "The few fans in the ground who are supporting Swindon are getting quite annoyed that we cant clear our lines"

I would have thought it would be a fairly large attendace today, Southend would have brought quite a few too. Sounds fairly noisy on the radio as well.

I think I have seen Stef shoot 3/4 times in his time at Swindon. Two of them went out of the ground, so maybe its for the best. Having said that, he's not going to get any better if he doesn't try.

Half time. Is King at the game, or is Iffy in charge? Either way, it sounds like they have got a fair bit of work to do.

Title: Matchday Thread - Swindon Vs Southend
Post by: genf_stfc on Saturday, September 10, 2005, 14:54:39
yep, only fallon, pook, and heaton seem to be doing much.   Don't know why shakes doesn't start, from what I have heard he makes things happen although again, I haven't actually seen a game so far this season and may not get to so my opinion probably isn't worth much (missed a train for Yeovil, bit annoying to say the least).

Cricket is back after the rain - aus 198-1 now.  Not sure its really a problem at the moment, but if aus get 600 and leave us with 250 or so and a couple of days to bat out then we might have a problem.  Not much honour in it, but I'll be happy if it rains solidly from now on !

Quite possible some people are staying in to watch the cricket (like me), not 1000 though. There's some nice black clouds above the pavilion at the Oval, but still looks fairly bright on the tv.

Title: Matchday Thread - Swindon Vs Southend
Post by: genf_stfc on Saturday, September 10, 2005, 15:16:19
that is poor attendance isn't it - probably watching the covers at the oval instead.

sounds a bit better in this half so far, but need more if we are going to get anything out of this game

aus 243-1 as well now, I think that officially puts us deep in the shit.  A beer I think, looking forward to next time, well, maybe not, but you know what I mean

Sounds like a familiar story - failure to defend set pieces; conceding early goals. How many points have we thrown away over the years because of these two failures?

The sad aspect was that the performance today sounded poor, even second half, despite two relatively good away performances. Be interested to hear what the views are of someone who went.

no he isn't.

pook has been one of the only shining lights in our poor team.
Obviously playing him out of position isn't going to do him any favours but he is one of our better players from what i have seen.

The most boring match I've ever watched I think,no fight and no passion.
As for the whole king out thing,I'm stuck in the middle and I don't know what to think!half of me thinks that king should stay because at the end of the day he is trying his hardest and I believe he is a very comitted manager. All he can do is pick the team and give them advice and support them so once those players are on the pitch its THEIR job to perform and try to win the game......other half of me is thinking that maybe we do need a new manager to get things moving again.I really don't know.I suppose as fans all we can do is have an opinion and just see what happens :|

King In/Out seems accademic. He won't resign.  The board seem unwilling/unable to fund a replacement anyway. End of discussion.

We were poor today. Fallon did OK, Thorpe looked better than Cureton by a mile and Shakes was lively when he came on but had poor control.

I think what kingy needs to do to help the team is to move players around.... he needs to start fresh and say ok.... so far heaton and fallon have done well this season, those 2 get a starting place, as for the other 9 he needs to keep moving them around until they start proving they deserve a place, because at the moment, they are turning up, playing shite, taking their wages and still getting to play the next week.... he needs to say, "if you want to play, prove it" OR  :fu:

And by the way dont satrt saying so and so has played well they deserve a place, i just used them as examples

Title: Matchday Thread - Swindon Vs Southend
Post by: DiV on Saturday, September 10, 2005, 18:21:59
Thing is we dont have the resource to keep telling players to fuck off, if we did tell people where to go we'd just have Miglioranzi and Fallon on the pitch

Title: Matchday Thread - Swindon Vs Southend
Post by: my-velocity on Saturday, September 10, 2005, 18:23:18
He must not be letting them get away with these disapointing performances, and he needs to work on his formations, starting teams etc.

When you see nearly all of the people in the stands get up and leave on the 90 minute mark ( I think ) then Kingy must think he's doing something wrong.

Title: Matchday Thread - Swindon Vs Southend
Post by: kick_ass1987 on Saturday, September 10, 2005, 18:28:07
I just think he needs to say ready for bournemouth to his subs, im going to give you all a game, fill your boots, if you do well you play next week, if not you lose your chance.... then eventually they will realise if they dont perform they get dropped, and maybe replaced for a long time, was this not proved last season with Howard and Smith..... howard gets injured (ok not his fault) smith gets a chance, and is ace.... when howard finally got a chance again at the end of the season he was amazing..... i really think this will work, maybe we lose a couple of games because some players are not ready... but its better than watching todays game every week

Title: Matchday Thread - Swindon Vs Southend

Title: Matchday Thread - Swindon Vs Southend
Post by: kick_ass1987 on Saturday, September 10, 2005, 18:36:36
surely he must realise something has to be done though.... 1 place off relegation, but worse than that, the next 3 teams below us all have a game in hand...... this is not kingys fault because its the players that play the game not the manager, but it is his job to "motivate" players to perform..... ha ha, there is a statment..... doing a job basicly every kid dreams of and they need to be "motivated" to play a game of football.  :-))(

Yep you are basically suggesting he should do one of the main things people are moaning he does too much.

Some say keeping a balanced team is essential, some say if they don't perform drop them. You can't do both.
