Sky mostly show all games live, so if they clash with the FA Cup final, one will be shown with a 12pm ko, with the other one around 6pm, after the cup final.

Oooooh, Gazzza looked up the play off dates

That means we won't get into the play offs or we'll lose. Or something.

According to some folk around here anyway ::)

One of my best mates is getting married on 29th May after guaranteeing me there was no football that day!!  >:(

Suggestions as to whether I should go to the wedding or fob him off on the off chance we make it to the final (which will be guaranteed if I go to the wedding)??

I've got to go to a wedding that day too - unfortunately my fella is one of the ushers so we can't skip it...

And even worse, the 15th is my best friend's 30th birthday all-day extravaganza which I've already said I'll go to.

I'm going to be pissed off if we don't make the play-offs, and pissed off if we do!

I've booked the week off work from Monday 10th May to Saturday 15th May. My thinking is that if we get drawn to play away on the saturday I wouldn't make it if I was working cos I don't finish till 12pm on a saturday. Night games are fine though.

I will also get the day off for saturday 29th May.

Bad omen??

I'm going to a wedding too on the 29th!  Although in the US of A over the Bank Holiday weekend so I'm going to be so upset if we get to the PO Final.

If we do go up, I can't even hope for the JPT to get a day out at Wembley!

I'm going to a wedding too on the 29th!
I'm supposed to be - had potentially awkward conversation with my cousin last week in which I explained we were RSVPing yes but if we do get to the play-off finals, don't expect to see me or Joe there. Although I did offer to text her score updates, which I thought was fair. Fortunately she was very understanding so I didn't need to deploy my killer argument - the length of time since Town were last at Wembley vs the length of the average marriage these days means I'm more likely to get to go to another of her weddings before I get another chance to see us at Wembley.

Luckily, her fiancee is a keen football fan so she does understand how important these things are. Although, as he's a Leicester fan, the "noises off" during the phone call at the mention of "Swindon Town" and "play-off finals" were not suitable for a family audience :)

Do we know which one will involve which teams yet?? ie 3rd vs 6th is 12pm and 4th vs 5th is 6pm? also which is home/away legs etc...

I know we don't know yet where we'll finish but it'd be nice to start to do the maths as theres a big fight at upton park on the 15th which I want to get tickets for, but if we're say at huddersfield away at 6pm ko I'm not going to get to the fight..

any help appreciated!!
cheers.

Don't know about the KO times as Sky will probably decide that for TV etc. However if we finish 3rd or 4th our first leg will be away on 15th May and then the 18th will be at home. It will be the other way around if we finish 5th or 6th.

That was one of my other back-up arguments I decided not to deploy!

I have a further cunning back-up plan. My wife 'accidentally' arranged our marriage on the same day as a home game. I didn't let on that it was relatively unimportant but am keeping it up my sleeve in case I need to invoke it for possible play-off type scenarios which clashes with social situations, my wife's arranged, with people I've never met. The conversation, I hope, will pan out like this:

Me: I can't go, Swindon are at Wembley
Her: So I'm not as important as football?
Me: Of course you are dear, I sacrificed an important home match to marry you.
Her: That was years ago, it doesn't count.
Me: So was the time I fucked up on 02/05/2001 at 17:04 and 30 secs but it never stops you reminding me of it. Bye I'm off to Wembley

Don't Sky show all the playoff games live? If so how will four games on the 15th and then two games on the 18th and 19th work? Are they likely to change some games to different days / times or just show multiple games at the same time?

Anyone know what they did last season?

Haha no mate even better than that - Unbeaten west aam fan Kevin Mitchell fighting world class aussie brawler Michael Katsidis.
Big step up in class for Mitchell and infront of his home crowd could be the night he comes of age, ala Hatton Tszyu in 2005. Of course he could get pummelled in a few rounds like the last time Katsidis fought over here when he battered graham earl in four at the Excel arena.
Really could go either way this one likely to be a right old east end tear up and one I don't want to miss!

The growing number of international players in the Coca-Cola Football League, and the Championship in particular, has, once again, led to the Play-Off weekend having to be split over two weekends during a World Cup year.

Unfortunately, the call-up period for the 2010 tournament falls during the May bank-holiday weekend, the traditional date for the Play-Off s. Therefore, following consultation with clubs it has been decided to schedule the Coca-Cola Championship Play-off Final on Saturday 22nd May 2010, with the Coca-Cola League 1 and 2 games being played the following weekend (League 1 - 29th & League 2 - 30th).

I took mine last year, and my first ones were before the May half term, with that week being used as a rushed revision period in my case.

Same with my AS levels this year, although the majority of them are this time before the May half term

All depends on what subjects you take. I did mine last year and my first was at the start of May, and my last one was mid June.

I have my AS's soon, and my first exam is in only 2 weeks time  :suicide:

Unlikely being down in deepest Somerset, its about a 3 hour drive to Wembley from here.

And TBH my bollocks are on the line with my missus if I ducked out of it, gonna have to sneak away and watch it on TV somewhere for 2 hours if we do make it methinks.

Just seen this

http://www.football-league.co.uk/league1/news/20100505/league-1-play-off-dates_2248206_2044509

so if charlton finish 5th or 6th they'll still be at home in the 2nd leg?
and what if millwall and charlton play eachother?
WTF

what fucking nonsense so finishing third gives you no advantage whatsoever if we end up playing Charlton how the fuck can that be fair. I suspect this is a combination of the Met and Sky that has this influence, why can they not change it to the sunday cunts

Think it would be more down to policing more than anything. What with the cup final on aswell, the met are going to have a busy weekend.

Fuck a duck - if we don't go up in second we need to finish 4th or 5th !!!

It's my daughters 11th birthday on the 18th and this is the second leg date for 3rd v 6th - it can't happen.....

Are we not reading this wrong? does it not mean if they are due to have a home first leg FIRST then it will have to be on the Friday instead of the Saturday due to the cup final clash, it doesn't say they are guarenteed any choice whether they go home or away first does it?

Title: Re: Football League Playoff Dates
Post by: lambourn red on Thursday, May 6, 2010, 13:49:03
In order to avoid a direct clash with the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 15th May, should Charlton Athletic finish 6th, the match order for both 1st and 2nd legs would reverse.

*If Charlton Athletic and Millwall finish in the bottom two play-off positions, and Charlton Athletic do not play Leeds United, Millwall will play on Friday and Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

I have read it over a few times and I am know more confused than I was the first time I read it, I really do not understand why does it make a difference if Charlton have to play Leeds as to when or where the game is played.

You're right, the league have just ballsed up the wording. No need to panic.

Why they have even published this info when nobody has a clue who is going to finish where, and there are so many extra factors to consider, is beyond me.

Does anyone else feel that their whole lives are on hold until the outcome of Saturday's games so that you can start planning days off to get to the play off games (or maybe not) and you can't commit to any other social arrangements until then. Hoping for either auto or the 4th vs 5th game against Charlton for minimal disruption.

Think it should be fine. In my dreams I have imagined that we're 0-0 and Leeds are winning 1-0 then the Gas get an equaliser with about 5 to go. Millwall get wind of this and go for broke and then our late goal curse reverses itself with a late, late breakaway goal to send us up.

Can't see it being too tricky getting out but rumours we might be held in afterwards for an hour. Once back to London Bridge it should be fine. I'm popping down to Beckenham afterwards to see a mate who used to watch Millwall a lot and most of his mates in the pub are Millwall so could be fun but they're all a reasonable bunch.

oh no! just can't agree that the play-offs are a lovely fall-back.
If we have to go that route and Wembley I will be fit for nothing for 10 days or so.  Won't be able to sleep, won't be able to eat, won't be able to do my work right, will have dreams about scoring the winner though and be taking in plenty of rum and coke.

Just keeping the faith for a great day out this Sat.

I had a dream Frank Nouble scored a last minute winner (far post, 6 yards)  to take us up. Not sure if it was Wembley or Millwall. It looked a bit like Chedworth village pitch to be honest.

Still, you heard it here first.
