I have to admit that im suprised they picked Swindon for the venue. I think its a good bit of advertisement for the town especially, after the slagging its had since the office and the opening credits of room 101. The announcements for this show will be played constantly all summer.

I do hope that radio1 have some decent security around their site though. My first thoughts were that the brain dead idiot yoofs that we have in our town would try and do something to fuck it up for everyone else.

From what I understand they are correct. Looking at what some people have said on the Swindon Music Forum I get the impression they are not letting people who turn up with a load of cans or even any form of bottles (other than water) in. Yes that includes coke etc as well so if you're going to try and pull a fast one with vodka in a 2 litre bottle you might not be so lucky. There is nothing in that article to say that there will not be a beer tent. As far as we know there will be. Only problem is that you'll have to keep chipping off there between acts.

On the In New Music We Trust Stage, fans who gets tickets for the Saturday will be able to see Basement Jaxx, Doves, Jack Penate, Friendly Fires, Deadmau5, Florence & The Machine, The King Blues and Fightstar.

Ones in bold are the ones I'd want to see. Very good line-up, the In new music we trust stage line-up is superb on both days. The main stage is a lot better on saturday but Lily could be worth seeing. Highlights are Calvin Harris, Dizzee Rascal, Friendly Fires, Doves, Chase and Status, White Lies, Basement Jaxx and Snow Patrol.

The dance bit is at the oasis and 2 many dj's are superb live. Saw them before and easily one of the top 5 gigs I've ever been too and I've also seen Annie Mac who is great. Would like to see Pete Tong, Erol Alkan and Mary Anne Hobbs too so will try and get to that.

Sunday for me - I heart Neyo and Lilly Allen

I'm not bothered about Pete Tong but 2 many dj's are worth £20 alone (the price has been reduced now) and I love Annie Mac. A bit of dubstep goodness with Mary Anne Hobbs also sounds good.

To be honest. i did slag the lineup off before the dj's and stuff were announced, once they were annoucned (the day after) I though ahhhhh... now we are getting somehwere. I have no interest in seeing Kasabian, Snow Patrol and things like that! Would have been cool to see Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren there (they have played it before) but saw Armin about a week ago and saw Tiesto twice last year and will in July!

The script were bloody awesome. Should have given the jaxx the main stage IMO. A tip though, buy one of those card things that go round your neck. They're a rip off at 6 quid but no way of knowing otherwise who's on where!!!

Dizzee Rascal's best track was bonkers featuring Armand Van Helden, Wicked beat on there! Never heard Florence & The Machine, Thought they were very good actually. Basement Jaxx live set was the best act followed closely by Deadmau5 for me! Absolutely loved it! Got a lovely sunburn now though!

I actually didnt see much traffic and think SBC actually sorted the traffic arrangements out spot on.I parked at Windmill hill because I work there and figuered there would be loads of traffic up that way. Got there at 11 barely any cars.

Basement Jaxx had people outside as well about 15 deep! Would have filled the main tent. I guess Snow Patrol are a more mainstream name though. Jaxx were my favourite act of the day! I could have thrown a bottle at Westwood, cant stand that cunt

Shame about the power cut during prodigy, everything on stage just died part way through breathe. It's not really clear whether it was just a technical problem or they turned it off on purpose. The rumours on the way out were that there had been an accident and they turned it off for safety. Was getting on for 5-10 minutes when they got it back on. Otherwise they were brilliant.  8)

Overall thought it was superb - especially for a free gig.

The prodigy were absolutely brilliant and special mention to Zane Lowes set just before as I thought that was fab!

I haven't been to bed yet.

A last minute ticket result meant my picnic at Lechlade was cancelled and i got to go along... my personal highlights were White Lies, Chase and Status, and Maximo Park. The DJ soundclash was a massive disappointment.

My personal highlight was at about 4am when I realised I'd have to be up in 3 hours to make my mum a cup of tea because it's her birthday (although I almost always get up and make her a cup of tea anyway because I'm a lovely son who appreciates living in her attic rent free - it's the reason I'm often up early). At the time I was having an interesting experience trying to make separate parts of my brain hold on to different golden threads of conversation to stop them floating away. Mrs Need-To-Get-Up-Thought apparently managed a very sneaky escape from the clutches of my mind, I think she eloped with Mr Time-Perception. By 6am there was no choice but to plough through and stay up. Chemical Cocktails.

I'm the most hardcore one big weekender there is and I didn't even fucking go.

I'm not going to be able to sleep for a couple more hours now anyway, at least not until my teeth stop grinding. At that point to I crash out and risk sleeping through to this evening (where I'll get in trouble for not clearing up the kitchen) or try and keep going today with the aid of caffeine?

I might make my mum a birthday cake later. That will be fun. I'll post pictures and stuff. I think Samdy's lovely mrs is trying to out bake me. That'll show them, I can be 2007 Ben and bake stuff.

Luci - I loved Zanes Lowes set on Saturday too it was one of my fav things and I normally switch off when he comes on the radio!! hes actually a bit hot! his set was miles better than Pete Tong and Vernon Kay!!

Dizzee Rascal was ace!! 

I loved the fact it was free and I didnt fell like I had to go and see bands I dont like just to get my moneys worth!

I tried to broden my horizons and be alternitive and watch Florence and the machine but she hurt my ears and scared me a bit!!

Impressed by Franz Ferdinand, Lily Allen, The Wombats, Alesha Dixon, The King Blues, Ne-Yo, Akon, but Basement Jaxx's set was superb, along with Kasabian.

Moyles was very funny with his set.

Was there on Sunday and it was a fantastic day, was impressed by Ne-Yo not usually my sort type of music but he was excellent, Lily Allen & Alesha Dixon (my god this woman worked the stage) was also fantastic, Lilly her usual contreversial (sp ?) self  - Singing Fuck U when asked not to by the BBC.

A word about the organisation though which I thought was really well done, busses and parking was simple, although not sure what the litter pickers were up to as the amonut of rubbish on the floor was bad, I expect they will have a busy few days clearing up.

I see the picture in the adver of sll the swindon councillors there....obviously given freebies while everyone else that couldn't go as they didn't get tickets stayed at home..wrong.

She got asked not to swear in the live lounge performance, not the BW performance!

Apart from not updating the website the traffic organisation appeared to be spot on which is pretty incredible given the Council's past track record.

One thing I did wonder though, if a one weekend event with 20,000 people can be such a boost to the local economy, think about the football club. I know this has always been argued with redevelopment plans etc. but the impression I get is that the Council don't share this view so much.

The Council both officers and councillors love this sort of event, because they can massage their egos with a bit of vipping and then talk about it. Whereas as regards the football club if it was "big four" they'd be loving it, but as it's us they don't give a shit.

Unless like when we made the Prem, they can use it to describe the hell hole that is the planning dept, as Premier House  :cunt:

I had 2 tickets for yesterday but gave them to my daughter and brother in law. They both had a great time. i watched some stuff on the press red and was quite amused by what I saw. The fat bird was amusing but nothnig you can't see on a Saturday night down the Moonies. White Lies were quite good in a Joy Division sort of way. Basement Jaxx looked like a couple of rent boys that had been on the piss and sounded worse. Akon was exactly that - a con - ddn't sing and generally looked compeletely pissed - not really worth getting from the USA. 
Its good though that Swindon hosted this event and that it went well.

Glad to hear it went as well as it did.  And if Swindon ever does get a university, I would imagine a few more of these bands/groups would come back on a more regular basis.

They'd probably come if we had a decent/big enough venue. Sadly it doesn't look like happening for a while.

If we build it, they will come.

I guess next time they're in unfamiliar territory someone should remind them of their geographic location before they go on stage.

From what I've seen on the t'interweb and on the red button, Chase & Status and Deadmau5 looked quality, as did the enemy and friendly fires. Apparently the outside stage where they had a lot of local and unsigned acts was well worth a visit too.

The big problem for the council with the football club is that its a business and its owners are looking to make a profit, as a result its difficult for them to justify any special favours such as selling the ground on the cheap. Though there is still a strong argument to support the club, a Premier League team would boost the towns profile and bring a lot of people in and their cash to the town. Plus a re-development of the ground could mean a decent concert venue, conference facilities and so on - all of which would help the town as a whole.

We're stuck with that for now, sadly it's a sports hall not a purpose built music venue but they're doing great managing to attract the artists that they are now that the capacity is up to 3000 for a stand up concert.

Oh and JFW I thought Florenece and the Machine were great (yes scary = attractive sometimes).

Friendly Fires my favourite though. Check out their one (shame BBC) song on the big weekend website, brilliant !

Thought Lydiard showed it could host something, why not try to get some annual festival thingy in our wonderful town? everyone that went at the weekend had a brilliant time so it showed Swindon could host these types of events in the future!

This weekend was nothing but success - v well organized. Shame party in the park never managed anything higher profile than steps!

One of the companies I do most of my work for (sjm concerts) did all the production (pa/lights/stages/crew etc etc etc) for the weekend.  They are also responsible for the majority of the gigs at the oasis.  I shall keep having words promoting Swindon as the place to do shows, as frankly its a damn site easier than me having to drive around the country to do gigs.

30 minutes from gig to home was most welcome.

I think that's the only way it would happen. Now SBC has the Oasis doing regular gigs it doesn't appea\r that they're keen for another similar sized venue.

The council are not allowed to sell the ground "on the cheap" or supply any "special favours".

If they did the councillors would be personally liable and that is not going to happen.

my aunt who works at Capita who does some work for the council says they are trying to get Take That to do Lydiard Park next year. I wouldn't go because they are not my thing but pretty high profile.

i stand at the back and there is plenty of room then, and you can still hear the band fine.

Quite small obviously although it can take about 3,000 if sold out. Accoustics are pretty poor as you'd expect from a sports hall. Sounds tends to be dodgy but Paul Weller managed a brilliant sound there so it can be done. Drinks tend to run out at the makeshift bar before the main act comes on but you can use the proper bar upstairs if you wish.

Saw the Kooks at the Oasis didn't think it was that bad. lets be honest Swindon is never going to get a decent arena.... maybe a CARLING ACADEMY?

I dont think Swindon is a prime target for the academy music group.  They'll go to cardiff and many other places which already have established places running decent sized shows regularly.  Probably a university town as well, before coming to Swindon.

Anyway they are no longer Carling academies.  O2 academies now.

Thats not quite true. At one point somebody put a ladder up and loads of people were coming over. Some jumped onto the top of the portaloos and ran along them as the fence was really high. I thought about 15 came over then but could have been a few less. There was definitely more than 1 person who got away with getting in without a ticket tho!

Apprently on the Sunday about 9pm they didnt have anyone on the door as they assumened everyone who was coming was already there and people who just wanted to see the Prodgidy were just wandering on in with no tickets!

I think they would have missed a bit of the start of the set but could have seen most of it.

My mate got caught trying to sneak in but managed to grab a ticket off someone who was leaving. After that he was questioned but he produced his ID etc and managed to blag his way in with the managers of the secruity staff. Crazy.

I went out with My friend last night -She had tickets for Saturday which she had to collect from the ticket office on site - They went with some friends who couldnt get a babysitter till 3pm so arrived at bit later to be told "someone had already produced ID to prove they were her and collected there tickets!! apprently the women in the ticket office was incredibally rude

My friend phoned seetickets when she got home and gave the women in the ticket offices name only to be told several people had arrived at Lydiard to be told the same thing by this women!! sounds like she was taking backhanders for tickets! 

My friend said seetickets were really good and offered her tickets for the Sunday but my friend was unable to go
