Title: Squad Value
Post by: DRS on Monday, March 4, 2013, 15:03:27
This has to be the first time in a long time that our squad has had a number of saleable assets. I know over the years we have always had the one striker who we have sold but realistically we must have 5/6 players who we would get fairly decent cash for.

Sothe question is what value would you put on the players we have at the moment and who do you think would raise the most.

Hello Jed

In answer to your roundabout question of which players can I sell and line my pockets most quickly  :D

Foderingham
Ferry
Caddis
N Thompson
L Thompson
Collins

Maybe a few others who I have forgot about

Depends what you mean by decent cash. I can't see any of our squad being worth more than say £250k at present. Guess the difference is that most of our squad are decent at present but with no real outstanding saleable assets.

Though think that would change with a half decent season in the Championship - Collins, N Thompson, Ferry and Collins could all be worth a good few quid then.

Does anyone know what the price agreed with Brum re Caddis is?  I would hope that is excess of £250k ... Agree no one else though at this moment.

I would say that Foderingham is worth half a million of anyones money but nobody else for me would be over £250k.

Flint, Collins, Ferry & Caddis would be worth around £100-150k and maybe even Williams up there too but thats about it for me.

If any of the players were worth money, where were all the offers when we put the entire squad up for sale?

Why did the club say no fucker wants to buy anyone other than Ritchie?

Think it's a stronger all round squad than in recent years but no real high value players in there (at present). Though I reckon Wes has the biggest potential and find it a bit strange that no one has been in for him. I'd even go as far as to say I reckon he's the best keeper I've seen playing for us, in the 20 years I've been watching.

I heard we were offered over that for at least 4 of our squad

Deleted what I was going to write as I realised it was pretty much this. Although I think under normal circumstances we might get up around the £250k mark for Ferry and Caddis.

In a couple of years time Foderingham is going to be worth £2-3m in my opinion.

Really? Surprised as the club didn't give that impression publicly.

How much over £250k?

Shrewsbury came in with a cheeky offer for Collins after Ritchie had been sold.

400k
Was this the Wolves bid?

I would have sold one of the remaining players than take the poor fee for Richie if that is the case.

None of them were 400k cash up front though.Muff actually offered a much higher bid but in installments.

Sale value is contingent on contract situation...we've a number out of contract in the summer, a fact that has been overlooked in the recent mayhem....so other clubs may well pick up our better players for free.

Bit of research shows these are the aforementioned players...Alan McCormack, Simon Ferry, Nathan Thompson, Aden Flint, Joe Devera, Raffa De Vita, Tommy Miller and Miles Storey. Don't think Louis Thompson has been offered a deal yet either.

Apparently Tim Sherwood was seen at Coventry Saturday. That's the 2nd consecutive match of ours in a row he's been at.

Snooping around for Wes, perhaps?

I think in terms of age/potential Foderingham has to be the highest valued player I would have thought as the bloke is excellent

Foderingham could fetch us a decent 500k fee with additional add ons.

Ferry is of course a quality player but because his contract is up in the summer he's worth nothing.

I think I'd accept 300k for any of our other players.

Collins may well attract a bit of a premium simply because of his age, two season hitting double digits and beyond in goals and his background suggesting there is more to him than League One.

Is Ferry still not covered by his age?  I know in a tribunal that'll be diminished, but I suppose in Jan someone may have paid a little more to guarantee his name (if they were interested).

Caddis could be worth a few bob, especially no he has more than a year to go and obstacle to him being here is gone (even if he doesn't want to return).

Fodderingham is building up a good reputation.

Williams may hit 6 figures in value I suppose, again based showing he can perform to a degree for more than one season in the front man role.  I remember seeing him for Hereford against us and he looked like he'd be worth something back then.

Then there are probably a couple of youths that higher teams may pay a premium on the just in case approach they seem to take.
