A fairly good loss, all things considered? We can't defend for toffee, but at least we tried today

Kokolo for me, solid on his debut.

Followed by Kemp, Young and Mahoney(despite 2 rushes of blood he kept us in it).

The rest were fairly poor at best.

So now, apart from Hutton’s crosses into the box that would suit a big, target man he’s now chucking decent distance long throws into the box. It’s fucking bizarre. Everything is out of kilter.

Yeah he looked pretty average, but a marked improvement on the likes of Shade and Uwakwe.

Kokolo made us much stronger on the left. Although he didn’t do ‘lots’ on the ball, he was in the right position most of the time. He seemed to be a defender who can defend - We don’t have many of those!

Going forward he looked handy too and nearly scored.

We looked stronger with him.

I think the rancid previous occupiers of the LWB slot may have tempered expectations.  Someone able to run without tripping themselves up can hold down the spot these days.  OK, a little harsh.

Yeah he was above the bar, but Shade, Uwakwe and Ben Ward have set the bar on the floor.

I thought Khan, Kemp & Young played well.
The new fella had a decent debut.
The central defenders do what they do, look good going forward & do ok for spells but are prone to mistakes, although it doesn’t help when there’s not much cover from the midfield.
Thought Hutton had one of his poorer games, Stockport had a plan for him & doubled up on him to negate much of his threat.
Mahoney made some good saves, but had a couple of brain farts.

Which (subs aside) leaves McEachran & Austin who were both really poor.

“It doesn’t help when there’s not much cover from the midfield.”
Here is the issue game after game and we don’t have any cover the deal with it.

Indeed, we still need a DM player and a proper CF.

We effectively have three defensive players in the team, and two of those look best when pushing forward. We basically have the old Brazilian mentality (or Keegan at Newcastle) of we will score more than you. Problem being our forward players aren't good enough to do that consistently
