He does live in Kent...but Gillingham?! Depressing.

He lives in Tunbridge Wells. So it’s a short commute to Gillingham. He’s put family ahead of money. Mind you, I expect him to

Yeah, their transfer activity in January last year easily kept them up and looking at their recruitment and targets so far it seems they are going to be operating at the opposite end of the table they were messing about with. I can see Doncaster and Gillingham operating around the play-off positions, and with Wrexham and Notts County probably there or there abouts, it's going to make our promotion aspirations tricky. We have nothing to base STFC on so far, our transfer movements are going to be crucial. (Thank you Captain Obvious I hear you say)

I think that's correct. Might even be Kent.
See above post Wink

Isn't Gilligham the closest club to his Kent home?

I think, if reports are to be believed, he's got the best of both worlds (Edit - which I see you wrote later in your post Smiley ). Gillingham have offered him at least what Bradford did (apparently more) and he doesn't have to relocate his family. I read that Bradford had put him up in a hotel and also offered to accomodate his family for a short period until they got settled. I guess 3 years is quite a commitment and so once Gillingham came calling it was probably a bit of a no brainer for Williams.

But why leave it to the very last minute? Surely Gills and Wrexham knew what they could offer him before he got to Bradford and virtually signing.

Transfer deals never appear to be straightforward and I imagine a lot of the back and forward that happens behind the scenes is probably due to Agents - A trying to get their pound of flesh and B - getting the 'best' deal for their clients. Perhaps Gills weren't initially willing to go to what Bradford offered and then changed their minds once they did some number crunching. I'm sure there is a myriad of factors involved, hence why transfers seem to take ages half the time - even longer when we are involved!!

Jerry Yates wanted by Leicester, willing to pay 2.5 mil. Good for him. Was absolutely class for us. That partnership with Doyle was really something

As contrived as it was, I’ll always love the vid of Yates and Doyle being ‘reunited’ in January when the latter rejoined

I know we were operating in a very house of cards way at that point but actually buying Jerry Yates would have been a very sound investment

Yates himself said we never even put an offer in until he agreed to go to Blackpool
