Aldershot must be the only ground in the FL (at the time when they were) that allowed fans of both home and away to stand behind the same goal in the only covered end of the ground, seperated by just a fence split roughly 60/40 in the home favour. I certainly dont remember that anywhere else.

They must also have been the only league team with a trawler net behind the goal too I would think.

Went to aldershot many times for midweek games in the 70's and 80s. quirkly little ground that, I only saw us lose there once in about 7 visits back in 1979 in the FA cup with an incredible 11k there, about 6k were Town fans.

Aldershot away on a Tuesday is surely a good reason against replays Smiley

(This whole pandering to the premier League stinks. Not like they don't have massive squads and largely play weakened teams anyway)

This is what I dont understand, even if the early rounds they treat it as an U23 fixture it could be done without any issue.

STFC have issued a latement:

I suppose Friday afternoon is the rightful time for such things.

"Following the announcement yesterday about changes to the FA Cup effective from the 2024-25 season, we'd like to express our disappointment in the lack of any consultation with other teams competing in England's most treasured cup competition, outside of the Premier League".

Bit of a weird thing to say, or am I being harsh?

I think it's clumsy phrasing, I think they mean not consulting anyone outside the Premier League, rather than the Premier League being an even more treasured competition?

That's how I'd read it, that the Premier League was pretty much our #1 treasured competition! I assume it was meant the way you stated but by god they could do with some help with the people writing this stuff!

And typically of our website its now coming up saying page not found when I click this link but I definitely saw it.  Apparently

'We as a Club encourage those involved in the decision and at the FA to suspend changes immediately until all clubs have been consulted and outcomes can be achieved that support the majority, not the minority, in terms of the competition’s participants.'

Interesting suggestion by Colin Murray: if Premiership clubs insist on this, then they should pay a million quid to any lower league club that gets to a draw at the end of extra time. Whether or not they lose on penalties, the lower league club would benefit.
(I guess matches between non-premiership clubs would be replayed as currently)

I don't think we should get a vote as a club we don't even participate in the FA Cup anymore.
