If you're on the blue template you will likely have a button on to the left below peoples AIM on their posts. If you are using the normal template, then it should be a link. Admins can't block anyway and can't be blocked.

You can also go to your profile and add users to the ignore list. You will also have an ignore count within your main profile, so you can see how many people think you're not worth listening to. Hopefully the bastard works.

Not my doing I'm afraid. Theres no easily accessible options and it appears admins just can't be blocked, on the flip side, we can't block anyone either... You can try and add me to your ignore list and if that works I'll pm you my posts.

I'll also sort out some osrt of image when I can be arsed, because again it's default and doesn't work on anything accept the default Simple Machines template.

Answered in reverse order:

3. The template is the look or theme of the site - for want of a better way to describe it.
2. The normal template is the current default for the site, so the way you probably see the site. (Red and black, poor width and large black buttons.)
1. The blue template is the default for the forum software (SMF Default Theme - Core). You can change them, by going to Profile > Look and Layout Preferences > Current Theme: Forum or Board Default (change) and clicking change will bring up a list of available templates. There's really only 2, "Forum or Board Default" (Red Essence) and "SMF Default Theme - Core". Clicking use this theme changes it. There's also "Default Theme Red, but this is the poor cousin (as I never cleaned it up) to the SMF Default Theme - Core.

I can't see this being a good move. Threads aren't gonna flow very well.

I knew some weren't gonna be happy, but people are constantly whinging as it is and right can't be done at the moment. At least this way people can choose if they don't want to listen to someone. It's common place on the vast majority of forums as it allows a degree of self policing.

Can you un-ignore someone once you've chosen to ignore them?
I want to test it our, but I may decide I want to read the same person's posts at a later date - they may come to their senses in a few weeks time!!  ;)

Yeah, the button turns into an unignore button when you click it. So if you're reading a thread, you can instantly choose to read the post and annoy yourself!

Great work Barry, I've already ignored a couple of mongs which made reading a couple of the threads far more balanced.

surely the balance is in having differing opinions on a forum?
if you ignore those whose views you dont share that tips the balance one way.

I've found the setting that means mods can ignore and be ignored now, so mods can now be ignored and ignore. (For the record, us mods can see who is ignoring us - rockers no doubt - as well as everyone's ignore and ignored by lists.)

I want to remove the "Ignored by" count later, as I can see that bruising egos and will only cause hatred of the button rather than help convince a poster they might not always have everyone in agreement.

I find it strangely disturbing that the only three posts i have chosen to ignore is by that prick Leefer.

So if you do choose to ignore someone, and I probably will just do what I normally do in not read threads I wont have an interest in instead of ignoring someone. Can you unignore if you find out at a later date, they aren't as twattish as they first appeared?

Yep. Click it on me and you'll see my posts are replaced with some message about the member being ignored and the ignore button becomes an unignore button. Click the unignore button and you can continue to read my incredibleness. :)

I'll try it on someone else Barry, you're about the only one on here who makes sense.

I'd been toying with idea of having some kind of rep thing. I've renamed the Karma to Agreement and it's working. I kind of hope things like this and the ignore button can go a small way towards making people chill out a bit and also voice/show their disagreement. (Although as it's currently without restriction, you could click disagree a million times and it would let you. Might not be the best idea ever...)

i dont get why people have thrown their toys out of the pram?the forum has declined a bt recently but those throwing their toys out have helped create the state it currently finds itself in.it declined before and then improved with nothing being changed.
i dont think you need to do anything really.if people want to leave,let them.
they could help balance it up if they dont like what they read by countering the offending posts,rather than sulking or ranting.

I agree a great deal with your post, I'll remove you from my ignore list. ;) What I might do, or will experiment with, while the bit is between my teeth, is maybe adding some sort of agreement to posts, so as opposed to repping a member, people can agree with a post (but not disagree).

I removed it in part due to your comments, because you're right it's not a popularity contest, it's also ugly and irritates my aesthetic genes, which in turn means I resort to self-abuse.

I understand how to use the ignore button not to see certain peoples post, but I cant find out how you see how many are ignoring my posts, sorry to be stupid but I am getting on a bit.

Yeah, Paul's right, I removed it because it wouldn't be good for the ego to know large numbers of people are ignoring you.

It's a token gesture anyway. Anyone who's used one knows it's much like avoiding using a forum or avoiding certain topics completely. You always have to have a peek at what it is you've hidden and end up riled anyway. It's the nature of the beast innit.
