I'm going to jump in and stick up for Michael Smith as well. He looked pretty average when he first started with us (I remember Notts County away two seasons back when some bloke shouted after 80 mins "oi, Smith, you look like you've just picked your kit off the ironing board...), but thought he contributed in a big way last season. Games I saw him play, he would often be a handful for the other team's centre backs, he always put in a shift for the greater good even when things not going his way and never went missing. He also showed good feet at times, good goal v Orient away, great goal against Scunthorpe away. On balance I felt we were stronger with him than without him. There, I rest my case for the defence - if circumstances dictate that he ends up back with us at some point, that wouldn't be such a bad thing to happen in my book.

I'm in the minority I know, but I think that there is a very good Lge 1 striker in Michael Smith, unfortunately lack of confidence (from the whole team) along with him being the next scapegoat, and the fact that he wants to move North means that it probably ain't gonna work for him now though..

He was another of those players who I hoped would become better as he played more and at one stage began to look the part until the wheels fell of the whole shebang. Who is to tell that under a different Town manager he may have found his form, we may know come January but doubtful I guess.
