Who would have Paynter back here?

A 29 goal striker in his last season with us...should we lose Ranger he wouldn't be a bad bet.

A good 3/4 of a season out of his entire contract. Gave up at the critical time when we were on the verge of promotion.

We'd have to be pretty desperate if we take him back

I would, very underrated by our fans. Our last two good strike partnerships were Austin/Paynter and Cox/Paynter. That's no coincidence.

Christ is he still only 29, that must have been a rough paper round.

Bollocks, the Dossevi-Pericard combination at the start of 10/11 was superb and they didn't get the credit they deserved.

I assume you are still dreaming of the Paynter-Roberts super partnership....

Obv our style of play at the time suited Paynter.
As well as playing alongside another recognised striker - something he wouldnt get the benefit of now

Leeds obv didnt suit his style of play and he was suitably nicknamed barn door billy up there, with Leeds playing Paynter near enough alone up front. ( Leeds fans moaned they bought the wrong one of the pairing )
Preseason injury in Norway didnt help him that first season though.
Didnt do a bad job at Donny and think Lg1 is probably his level.

They say never go back and dont think we should in this case

Spot on. Sometimes, rarely, 'going back' can work. This is just one of those times that wouldn't.

Plymouth Argyle have completed the loan signing of Bury striker Tope Obadeyi.

Pilgrims boss John Sheridan has been keen to add to his attacking options, with his team having scored the fewest goals in League Two.

The 24-year-old, who has signed at Home Park until 4 January, has made three appearances for Bury this season.

Obadeyi started at Bolton and has also been on loan at Swindon, Rochdale, Shrewsbury and Chesterfield, as well as playing for Rio Ave in Portugal.

He signed a one-year deal with the Shakers in August, but has yet to open his goalscoring account for Bury.

Argyle have scored just 10 goals in League Two this season, and striker Marvin Morgan has been ruled out for several months after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Obadeyi is expected to go straight into Argyle's squad to face Lincoln City in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

I didn't even know he was at Bury. Forgot all about him.  Hmmm
