I like the bloke.

He gets loads of shit from us, but seems to take it in the right way, much the same as Mooney.

Very experienced and could help bring along the younger, less experienced players.

Another one of those you hate because he played for City, and was a bit of a thorn in our side, but always thought he was a talented player. I feel guilty about wanting to sign him.

I don't!

The players we hate (That haven't previously played for us) we hate because they usually play well against us and show a bit of passion.

He would be a good signing..............

We tried to get him on loan in febuary Si and he is out of contract.Malpas obviously rates him to try in febuary so would not be surprised if he has gone for him

Title: Scott Murray
Post by: Simon Pieman on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, 09:53:00
Well I'd be happy with him as a signing as long as he was on realtively average wages and it was only for a year. I'm not sure Murray would go for such a deal, it's be a mistake to sign him for any longer.

As for the subject being muted (sic) the only place I have seen it is amongst the fans. Unless I've missed something Malpas has said.

No.

It doesn't have to be an unknown Premiership reject - we can bring in a 25/26 year old with experience and a bit more pace and less likely to pick up little injuries like Murray has experienced this season.

He's decent, but he'd be a City legend on a last hoorah. Murray is not the future of STFC.

I think that good experienced 25/26 year olds are hard to come by at this level. If they're good at that age they'll be on there way up through the leagues. I think we're much more likely to risk a couple of older or younger players.

Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, 18:18:14
That's fair enough (but by last hoorah I meant - last payday)

But when I think of Scott Murray - I think Tony Thorpe. I would prefer a player who is more like to play 46 league games next season and not 10/15 odd. Murray played 3 times this year and I still think we need players who can compete more with eachother.

Maybe I'm a minority.

Thought I would shift Batch's post down from speculation as proper Malpas quote

See the Adver are on the Murray specultion

http://www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/display.var.2313509.0.murray_is_town_target.php

Quote:

SCOTT Murray is at the centre of a possible Town transfer raid on M4 rivals Bristol City - while Maurice Malpas prepares to make a Championship full-back his first summer signing.

County Ground chief Malpas is confident of securing the services of an unnamed player under contract at a Championship club in the next couple of days but has also contacted Town's Ashton Gate neighbours about several targets.

Malpas revealed winger Murray is one of those he is currently keeping tabs on but admitted there were "one or two others" at their West Country rivals he has also enquired about.

Brian Wilson, Jennison Myrie-Williams and Alex Russell have been touted as potential targets but, while keeping his own counsel, Malpas insisted winger Kevin Betsy was not on his wanted list.

Scottish winger Murray, 34, has been offered a year's contract extension by City boss Gary Johnson but could be tempted by a more secure offer elsewhere.

He is currently mulling over his options on holiday but Malpas admits he will be keeping track of any developments over the coming weeks.
advertisement

He said: "I have spoken to Bristol City about one or two of his players and Scott Murray is one of them.

"He has been offered another year at Bristol though as far as I am aware so that might end that.

"He is away on his holidays so I will just be keeping in touch with that one.

"It would be ideal if we could get players with some Championship experience in.

"Scott Murray does fit the bill on that one but it is more important they can do a job for us."

While any capture of Murray remains a work in progress', Malpas did reveal his full-back shortage was about to be halved.

With Jack Smith and Jamie Vincent the only recognised full backs on the books for next season, Malpas has made no secret of his desire for two more options in that area.

He said: "Everything is pretty much sorted between us and the full back in question.

"We just need to go back to his club and check it is all okay now."

Isn't that a strange situation he signs a years deal at City and it seems they may be willing to loan him out, so they obviously only want to keep hold of him to cover for injuries and if all is ok in pre-season they will let him come to us on loan until Jan I suspect with a 24 hour recall.

Why sign a deal at City instead of coming here where he would have a better chance of playing by the seems of it.....

I am not pro Murray on a full-time contract - I think it's a year or two too late (he's had niggly injuries)

However, I see nothing wrong with a loan deal and Malpas is clearly desperate to get him in.

Ive never liked the bloke but......if he was to come here on loan and play well then the anti Scott Murray brigade would have to hold their hands up and admit that they were wrong to slate him.

He WAS a good player. If he still is he'll be forgiven of his City roots pretty quickly. I think his age makes people wonder if he is past it and whether we'd be better off trying for a younger man.

I guess if we get him on loan we can suck it and see.

I have to be completely honest and say I really don't want him here.  He doesnt appear to really want to leave City at all even if its on loan and if hes got that frame of mind then I can't see his heart being in it to perform to a decent enough standard.

Never rated him - takes too many touches and when you see his showreels most of his fancy touches lead to bugger all. Was "found out" in the Championship.

i must be a complete fruit, I have no idea whether Murray would be good here next season or not but going on past displays against us I dare say he'd be a useful addition to the squad regardless of past loyalties, the guy's a proffesional, if he came here he'd know he'd have to turn it on to stop the ney-sayers jumping on his back every other minute so I can't see he'd come here with even the slightest intention of doing otherwise.

From memory all banter with Murray has been decent good natured rivalry really, every time he got stick against us he got up with a smile on his face and tried to win the game for City, which was his job remember...

So long as anyone who comes here is prepared to do what is asked of them and do their best to win the game for Town then I'd have no problem with them, if he scored the winning penalty in the play-off final for us next seaon for example would people still want to spit on him in the street?

some people need to get a grip, the lad's performed well at this level for a number of years and just to rule him out because he played for City is just talk, we're a League 1 side looking to improve the squad and whilst I'd rather we signed some youngster that may be worth some doller in the future I think in the short term he would improve the squad while we looked for that youngster.

let's be a little more pragmatic shall we, we finally have a board-room that is...

let's show some faith in the management team that the consortium that kept our club alive have chosen and trust?

Cunt off!

And to back that up Bart.

i have been in Thailand for 8 years, I have not seen my beloved town play for eight years but look at my post in the matchday thread. Despite probably not knowing what I am talking about I still offered a reasoned argument.

And so I repeat, and until you learn how to use that magical word from the Oxford English dictionary: "Because"

Cunt off.

Myrie-Williams, Brooker, Russell, Gillespie, Brown, Murray - all have gone on loan to Cheltenham from Bristol City under Johnson... I notice a pattern.

Murray loved beating Swindon - we loved doing one over Murray.... He was never going to sign.

Think what you want, we didn't need him and I for one am glad!

Nope, mainly because in lazy and slept till about mid day.

However, if you know their training schedule drop us a PM because its something I want to do. Just to see the back room staff in action, seen as alot of people are questioning them.

I've been up to Wanborough loads...not in the last 2 years mind.

You used to be able to just walk in off the lane up from Wanborough, then some small fence was put in so you just hopped over it.

One of my abiding memories was watching Lloyd Opara doing this drill where he had to do a bit of turning with back to goal then slot into the empty net, as teh ball wa sroled in from either side....he kept missing, I thought surely he can't be that bad...he was.

I've always been keen on watching a bit of particurly pre season training...we've used some curious places.

Going back to teh A ground in Shrivenham Road, when I used to watch Ernie Hunt.

The BR  sports ground has been used.....Ardiles used the Wills Ground....Hoddle and Macari the CG extension....Hoddle used to get them doing keepy uppy volleyball, on the all weather high jump area of the athletics track.

Watching runnimg up and down the hill in the Lawns was a Gorman favourite...I remember seeing Ross McClaren trying to keep up with this and failing moserably poor old bugger....he called iot a day not long after.

After Crosby went King used to do pre season, and did exercises straight out of Everton  circa 1978...stuff which current thinking suggested positively harmful.
