TBF I thought they said Payne was offered the best terms they had offered to anyone. I thought it was Payne that said he took less to go to Charlton.
Might be wrong though
Would be a weird one if true considering Payne still lives in Stratton.

He did - he wanted to play for a club in a higher league . Not weird really - he could see it wasn’t going to happen any time soon here.

Its amazing his career decline since leaving us, 6 games for Northampton and then to Sweden, then Iraq playing just 25 games in 3 years then onto Welling, Gloucester, Margate, Eastbourne and back to Margate and hes still only 32! If he had a bit better attitude (allegedly) he could have gone much further in his career, it was only us and Iraq national team that he managed more than 14 games for.

If we had accepted that offer from QPR early in the season who knows how his career may have gone. Kasim was awesome, but the entire midfield that season was next level honestly.

The manager knew his best position and played a system to his strengths rather than shoehorning him into a system that didnt suit him as Flynn and Gunning seem to have done with players recently. Its not exactly building a side around one player but its recognising what he can do for a team and use that ability to benefit the team.
