RIP Frank Burrows 😢

Really? fuck, I was only looking him up earlier today and it didn't say anything then, had been suffering from Cancer for a few years, a true Town legend. RIP.

So sad to hear, RIP Frank a true legend in Swindon Towns history.

RIP, on my reckoning that only leaves 6 of the 12 still with us.  :(

Well considering he was entirely our contracted player previous to signing from youth to senior team, this should mean we're due more than if we purchased him.

Frank was a relative of my grandfather and this morning learnt of the very sad news. Frank had been suffering with dementia for a couple of years which had been getting progressively worse. However, he still loved to talk about football and Swindon Town, he still had such a vivid memory of football in the past. Frank is a Town legend who loved the club and hopefully the club can do something to recognise and remember him on the weekend. RIP Frank.

Not being arsey, but it would be nice if the thread title spelt his name properly.

Every one of those ‘69 players earns the right to be called legend.

He was a hard fucker.

Sad news.

Frank played in the first Town game I ever went to (as a 6 year old) in February 1976. While I have little recollection of the game, he was part of a team and a club I fell in love with that day.

What centre halves we had in those halcyon days! Mel Nurse and then the definitive 'craggy Scot': Frank Burrows. Even better than Mel! Sweet memories. I'll look at my Wembley programme tonight over a pint and remember Frank Burrows - STFC legend.

What a guy. Brilliant defender, tough as nails.
Frank and Stan Harland was playing when I first went to the.County Ground. The Town End smelt of skinheads and stale tobacco smoke and the guy with the tea urn sold a hot drink that was nothing like tea.
Fast forward a couple of decades and I'm swanning round Sanford airport in an old Town shirt and this old boy steps up and says
"You a Swindon fan?" "Yep" says I. " I used to play for them" said the Jock " oh and who are you then?"
"Burrows" said he. I went weak at the knees like you do when you meet your hero's.
Never happened before and it's never happened since.

Bloody fantastic player and one of those players you never forget can remember him signing from Scunthorpe. He was immense in that final and made that twat Bobby Gould eat his words

Frank Burrows was a leader of men Although not Danny Williams captain at the time and it just shows the qualities that Danny Williams brought to the club.
If i'm correct Frank replaced Mel Nurse or possibly Keith Morgan and what a fantastic replacement he was.

I remember every single one of that 1968/9 squad. They all deserve their place as legends, and none more than Frank Burrows. And his subsequent career in coaching and management made him exceptional. A great loss.

Frank was a great player who played against the likes of Channon and Toshack and dominated them.  He seemed to be able to yell at referees while seldom being booked. Around Scunthorpe, he was known for his kick-arounds with locals in the street and had the reputation of being footy mad.  Thanks for the memories Frank.

One of my favourite STFC players. Always totally committed and a really good centre half in that era - different game from today’s as has already been said.

This in a nutshell.

Describing someone as a legend is used far too often these days. Frank will always be a true legend in my book as well as being my boyhood hero. I can still remember Frank going in hard in the pen area in front of the Town End and ending up with a punctured lung. Glad to say he recovered fairly quickly. RIP Frank. 

I hear a (very apt) minutes applause is planned by Town fans for the 5th minute of the game on Saturday against the Sulphurites in memory of Frank and his favoured Swindon shirt number, the one he wore at Wembley in 69.

Love that.

Can't remember the quote exactly but in the Don Rogers bio, Frank was quoted as saying that the Don didn't bother with tracking back but he never minded due to the amount of win bonuses the Don used to earn for him.

As has been observed a granite-hard defender but also greatly loved throughout the game and more than played his part in some of my happiest Town memories.

Never got to see him play, but as a keen student of Town history along with many others on here, it's easy to recognise a club legend & to mourn their passing. RIP.

I remember him from his managerial days, the somewhat gruff figure with the flat cap & strong Scottish accent.

The more latter day equivalents would be Jon Gittens or Shaun Taylor but not as tough I suspect, which is a tribute in itself.

The minutes applause on Saturday will be heartfelt by many that's for sure.
