Title: The Official TownEnd Season Ticket counter
Post by: janaage on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, 11:46:56
Okay folks only post on this thread when you've been to the ground and bought your ticket.  Please include family and friends season tickets as long as they have definitely bought their tickets.

I haven't yet as I have to wait til Monday, but this post will be edited then.

So please let us good TEF'ers know how many the TEF has contributed towards our STFC target of 6,000. (As V V and DB have done below).

I think the key thing is though how many are new S/T holders rather than existing, as we need to find around 2800 new S/T holders

I don't think all TEF'ers have been st holders recently - I and and my friends family haven't.

Just interested to see how many the TEF(and fs&f) take up.

Did not renew season ticket last season, before that a season ticket holder for many years.

I will be renewing, but haven't done so yet. Would you like me to let you know when I've done it?

What I would like to see is an STFC Season Ticket Initiative version of the classic "Minesweeper" game (typically found within Microsoft's popular Windows operating system). How the games works is that you pick yourself a seat in the south stand, and if you are within 5 seats of a migrating Town End'er, then you lose.

Over to you Nick Watkins.

I go to most games but never had a ST as never sure whether I'd be in Swindon for the full season.  Getting one this season for the DR a) because they're cheap and b) will definitely be here for a whole season.

Some of us refused to buy a season ticket last year because we didn't want Diamandis to get his hands on the money.  I bought a "last six" ST when the rabble had gone, but suspect a number did not, but certainly would this time.

Is 300 good or bad for a few days?  Not bad really considering most won't be paid until the end of the month plus we've already had a bank holiday which tends to drain the funds.  I'd imagine they'll sell well at weekends (if the Box Office is open Saturday still?) as a lot of people can't there during the week.

Don't forget that this week is only renewals as well and people like us who will be buying as a new ST holder cannot do so just yet.

Same as, well they werent going to buy it....I told them to buy it.

When I was younger is was my birthday present from my Dad every year, but he stopped going and I stopped getting a season ticket and when they are over £300 its a bit much for a Birthday present.

But £229.....done, sorted!

We have, so you can.

Unsuprisingly Town End sales a far lagging the main stand thus far.  But I guess those renewing the same seat in the Town End (or any stand) aren't likely to be in any rush to do so given the deadline is a while away.

Incidentally about 100 were solday today at 1pm. Going to be hard to keep this momentum up, so start press ganging anyone you meet!

If there was more time a few t shirts printed wouldn't go a miss for a future event....

TBA. May not be for a while yet as I understand it (but don't quote me). If you're looking to renew an existing seat, I'd download the form and post it in

Apparently the club still have no idea how they're going to police the split payment thing. Oops.

Me and my mate have just bought one each and one each for our dad's too, so 4 more to the total.

No queue when I got there, although by the time we left there was about 6 people waiting.

I was wondering that, I would imagine in a sense they will be relying on people's conciece (sp ?) and I'm sure there will be some out there that will leave it and try and get away with it.

Wherby if they used the credit card style ST's where like train station's you swipe your card then they can block certain ST's and when they query why they can't get in they will be told to pay up, but to implement this type of thing will be costly I'm sure.

I would like to see designated ST turnstiles next season though so you don't have to queue behind everyone else.

If they sell 6000 a designated season ticket turnstile will have longer queues than a normal matchday ticket one.

On the split ST thing, the first book will be given to you containing the first 10 games tickets. In order to get the remaining ones, you'll need to go in and cough up for the second half.

There's a box on the form if you're paying by credit card to have the second half payment taken automatically

And, any 1st time season ticket purchasers get a nice new T Shirt too !  8)

Cheers dude.  I have questions:

do I get a t shirt or do only special people that queue get one?

Well over 1,000 sounds good, but what I would be more interested in hearing is how many NEW STs are there?

The real race is to get 3,000 new season tickets sold, as I'm quite sure that almost all current holders will renew.

Good question.

If this was the music industry then multiple purchases from the same outlet would be discounted from total sales figures.

Not for me they didn't. 4 of us went went down in our lunch break armed with £600 between us and were bluntly told we would have to come back because of a computer problem. I find it quite appalling there is no contingency plan for this sort of thing and turning paying customers away when trying to hit a target I find most odd. Get it sorted STFC. I know we will come back but it might make others think twice.

I was tempted to get one myself as I plan to go to quite a few Saturday home matches (10 is my target) but I don't think it is financially viable bearing in mind it costs me about 150 Euro just to get to the County Ground each time I come over.

Yes, but I can see the point GR is making - fair enough, systems do fail, but surely it's not unreasonable to say well OK, we'll take your completed forms and your cash and add them when the system comes back up? We need to be selling all the tickets we can and if there's people stood there with completed forms and cash, they shouldn't be turned away.

But how any are ST holders renewing though, hopefully a good chunck is newbies.

I must admit I expected it to be higher as people would want to try and make sure they get decent seat's rather than having to get 2nd best.

After 16 June (ST holders seats are held) that will give us a good idea of if we can hit the target, hopefully we will see 4000+ by this time.

I went and renewed yesterday as I was in Swindon and the season ticket wallets had just been delivered and their pretty much the same as this years really from what I could see.

I noticed they were pressure washing the plastic windbreaks on the Arkells Stand..........must be a fun job as probably 40 years of grime on them to remove.

from the amount of contractors and workmen buzzing about the arkells stand when i pick the mail up compared to this time last year, i think we might be pleasantly surprised come the first home friendly. i particularly like the rather simple touch of painting the bricks on the arkells stand red, just kinda freshens it up a bit.

Yeah, but it's a "brand" isn't it? It's the slogan the whole campaign's running under. Part of the point of such a slogan is to get people to stop and think and ask what it's about - which clearly worked in this case

Yeah i agree paul as i know what its about but on the other hand my missus would not go in and ask why they need £6k.

Dont get me wrong what a refreshing change to see the club advertising and i am more optomistic of hitting the target now than i was 2-3 weeks ago.Just thought that could confuse people but like you say that could be part of the reasoning.

By the way any chance of getting something put on the big screens in town

It's a bit of a balance really - with a drive past slogan like that, all you can do is get people to notice it and hope it sticks somewhere, even if it's just to get them thinking "What's that about, must ask someone". They can't really put the whole season ticket leaflet up on a big banner and hope people will read that as they drive past (not without causing accidents anyway)

I believe the club are working on that, but there's a fair few levels of beaurocracy to jump through as I understand it

interesting to see the figures at close of play today, should give a good indication of if we expect to hit the 6k mark

I say we possibly need to be 3500+ as there should be a reasobable rise from last season with the new ST holders that have signed up

Got Mine l (3 in total) up one from last year on Saturday, (2 Renewals and 1 additional), Still not sure if were make 6,000 or not.  I really hope so, just needs to keep going a current rate.

It seems to slow a little and then picks up again for various reasons.  ie renewals deadline, payday.

Four sorted for me, three newbies.

I think we might be due some flag waving from the club on progress. On one hand, given the recent trends, I think we'll do extremely well to turn 3500 into 5, never mind 6 thou.

On the other, if we already have 1000 - 1200 new season ticket holders, that means there must be 600 - 800 existing who haven't renewed yet....taking us towards 4500 and game on.  And if we do get beyond 5500, I can see enough momentum building and arm twisting to drag us over the line....

To be fair, they made a big thing of passing the 3000 mark last week, they've got a "cunting great thermometer" (as deltaincline called it) on the Magic Roundabout, they do pretty much daily updates on the club site on figures sold, tbh I'm struggling to see how much more flagwaving they can do.

Fair shout about 'flag waving' in that respect, what I meant was.....given that from day one AF and co have espoused the Japanese stuff - kaizen, lean, six sigma etc - as long as they are practising it, they'll already have a very very very clear idea about whether we'll hit 6000 or not.

So if we're bang on the money, I might expect some bullish 'flag waving' telling us precisely that, it could rally a few more to the cause and help to dispel a growing, prevailing sense that we're not going to make it.

And if we are behind target, they'll be putting into action a million ideas about how to catch up, which we'll soon see the benefit of.

Of course, all this good business practice should be managed behind closed doors, but I'm intrigued, nosey and perhaps a little carried away: is all this change really happening at our football club?

That, and living 25 miles away I don't have the benefit of seeing a cunting great thermometer every day.

This would probably infringe on the civil liberties of the "Cunting great thermometer" in all fairness.

On the GWR question, you can advertise on as many as you like but GWR Swindon, West Wilts, Bath and Bristol normally allow a packaged price which is a bit cheaper than doing 4 different ad orders.  It's not that expensive either and I've noticed Brsitol Coty do it from time to time.

What other clubs have done is to have an "event" day at the ground linked to the season ticket push, so a meet the player BBQ style thing.  I'd imagine a bit of organisation could quickly create an event that the local media cover by way of it being newsworthy, so gaining free advertising.

I still think some kind of temporary presence in the Town Centre would help.  PLenty of empty stands in the Brunel for example, where the gadget people set-up around Christmas and harrass you when shopping.

I've got a plan to get to 6k. But it's a bit immoral!

Oh right, the plan. On July 31st, if we are short of 6K, get all season ticket holders beg/borrow/steal (actually not steal) an under 7 year old child. Get them a free season ticket. We'd hit 6k no problem. Mwhahahahahahahahha!

Only joking (obviously)

Seriously, when I got my ticket I  didn't notice that "under 7's go free" , or rather didn't realise this meant they could get a season ticket of their own - thought it would be on a per-match 'subject to availability) basis. So I have gone and got one. My little one will get to go to a fair few games now, building up through the season (he's only 4 in August). I had intended to buy a ticket on a need by need basis. But this fantastic offer means he now has his own season ticket.

I feel a bit bad that his seat won't be in use every game, but it does mean we can sit next to each other (with a bit of a rejig in out group) and I don't think I am depriving anyone of the seat. We aren't going to sell out every week.

So anyway whoever thought of this initiative, nice one.

just spoke to a mate who works somewhere within the club who reckons we wont get anywhere near the 6k and the inside view is that we will get to around 5,200 tops. I asked what he was basing this on and that was that they were selling between 80-100 a day and now they are selling 30odd.

Think thats slightly pessimistic as sales are bound to pick up in the last two weeks.

If you hear anything else like that keep it to yourself, not having a pop, just think that if it's spread about that me won't make it people will believe it and we won't get anywhere near.

The other clubs who have carried out similar promotions had a mad rush in the final week or so.  Around 30% of all sales occured when the big deadline loomed at Bradford last year I think.  The mere fact of a deadline prompted a pick-up in sales and then the jump in sales caused a rush as people realised all the seats were going and they wouldn't get a decent on matchdays.  Even those who probably felt they might not get to enough games had to buy to make sure they had a seat.

If it's around 5000 with a week to go, I'd think we'll make it and probably go a fair bit beyond it as well.  Just think, 5000 is half the home seats sold for every match.  When that happens we tend to fill the middle 3/4 sections of the 2 main stands to a point where only singles are left.  If people realise that they are going to end up in AA1 if they don't get a season ticket, watch them panic a bit.  5000 with a week to go could very easily equal 7000 sold a week or 2 later.

I'll only get pessimistic if we are around 4000 with a week to go and with around 3600 sold now and a pay day coming, that seems less likely.  Even at 30 a day until the final week would see us around 4600 with a week to go.

In the three days after a mini-rush for renewals of existing seats and a week or so before pay day, that's hardly surprising though is it? It was always likely to go in peaks and troughs, what's suprising is that we haven't had more pronounced spikes/lows before now

Personally i think it was just really pessimistic of him. If we get to near it with about a week to go then you will definitely see us over the finishing line. There are also a lot of cheap skates out there who arnt planning to go to that many games waiting to see if we are looking like we will do it.

As I have posted opn thisis:

Before now, their have been discounts for buying very early & early, whilst this year the discount period is a lot longer enabling peeps to save the first installment &/or hold on to their cash til July. From a purely selfish & financial point of view why would any one buy in May & June when you could wait until July ? The only reasons I can think of is a) To get a particular seat (ie Some but not all renewals, & b) Because they don't trust themselves not to spend it on other things & c) To support the club .

In addition, I reckon quite a few will go to a friendly or two & may well be persuaded then to get an ST. The sort who may not support STFC, but are interested in watching football. (The FA Cup winners will be a draw for some)
Hence I stick by my prediction of 6,900 - 6,950

I'm sure there will be a big PR push when we pass through 4,000 and through 5,000.  I'm still fairly confident we'll hit 6,000.  Even though I won't be getting a ticket myself, I personally know of at least 7 people who plan to get one in July.  It's going to be great going to games next season with 8,000+ gates.

Anyone know where the season ticket counter stands at the moment?

We do live in Peterborough (so really looking forward to the last game of the season).

We won't make it to every game, midweek will be a bit tricky (late back on a school night for sprog), but with the price of the tickets we are hoping to make it for 15-20 games.

I would definately buy one if possible. So far this year I have picked out 6 or 7 home Saturday games to travel across for (Col U, Millwall, Huddersfield, Leeds, Leicester, Oldham and Carlisle) and will probably try and do the same for last year. My dad has a ST but with the larger gates it'll be harder to get a seat near him if I do a pick and choose thing.

i've decided against getting one for a number of reasons:

- whilst the price is very attractive, i don't want to be restricted to sitting in the same place for an entire season.
- i'm not sure how long my enthusiasm for watching STFC every week will last this season. last year i managed until march.
- i don't intend to be here for the end of the season.

unfortunately i feel a tad guilty as i think people should be pushing for the 6k target and i can't be arsed, but i'll get over it.

Unless your planning on doing less than 12 games Sonic, you should get one....

Whilst we will have more fans, i'm sure there will still be enough empty seats for to move around and if you want to switch stand you can swap your ticket at the ticket office....or just go into a different stand with a ticket for another one.....which works, ask bennett!!

Plus, you could always flog it for the end of the season or sometihng....?!

Nice idea from sutton, but it could also catch on for locals.  A sort of Top Up system - pay £110 (lets say we add 10% and assume they use a similar cut price offer if so many sold) and get enough credit for 10 games, you then just use that credit through the season.  Could be done by using blank tickets which need to be redeemed before a matchday for a real ticket.  NO guarantee on seat or stand, so it's logistically possible.  Gives you 2nd dibs on tickets for away games etc.

Port Vale fans seem to think that we will sell loads in the last week of the offer. This is what happened with them anyway. They were seemingly going to miss their 5K target by about a 1,000 tickets but all the fence sitters all jumped on the bandwagon in the last few days. No reason to think it wont happen here.
On a positive note, last season we sold a total of around 3,200 tickets. As it stands we are on around 3,800 currently and even if we finish on say 4,200 I would say an increase of 30% is not a bad thing! IMO I still think we can do it.

I'm suprised with Vale considering Stoke went up to the prem and with them going down, thought a few may jump ship and get a ST at the Britannia - fair play to them mind. I'd be happy with us getting 4/5000 as still an improvement.  I'm starting to change my tune and be slightly pessimistic about the 6000 as I think only success on the pitch will really get the numbers in.

Spencer has posted a very good message on swindon-town-fc.co.uk - one that sends it home.

I'd have got one had I been in the region, without a doubt - to be honest I'd have probably gone for if I was still living in Plymouth.

I remain of the view that we have made progress with the current amount of tickets sold - but 6,000 didn't seem like a huge number to me - it suggests what a small club we are/have become again (we were never "big" but you know what I mean).

As long as we hit 5,000 I would say that was okay... But I fear we won't get such a good ST offer again.

Agree Rich....but the main reason we will struggle to get there is lack of ambition on the players front in alot of peoples opinion...not mine i may add,us the real Swindon fans are a very happy bunch at present because of the massive forward steps weve taken on and off the pitch...we will get our tickets, but the stay aways and people who havnt watched Swindon are not going to get exited at our playing squad,i think maybe one or two exiting signings would push us over 6000 mark.

But as pointed out, the people who don't watch Swindon sit at home/in the pub watching Sky/Setanta. They wouldn't get excited unless we signed someone who was a Prem player/player they had heard of.

I know they were cheaper but if Huddersfield can shift nearly 17,000 we should at least be able to sell 6,000.

Huddersfield can be a bigger town than ours? and they have more direct competition around them.

They havent signed any big name players, they are much like us....finished mid table, did well towards the end of the season and looking to push on.

Being a Huddersfield fan right now cant be all that more exciting than being a Swindon fan. Only difference is the price. Of course I dont expect us to shift 17,000 but not getting 6,000 would be piss poor in my opinion.

I mean Port Vale got 5,000 after being relegated as a side even worse than us when we went down. They've signed no one either...

Not making 6000 fans might silence those who seem to think we're a big club which is failing if we're not in at least the championship.

I was talking to someone over the weekend who (genuinely) works at the CG.

He gave me the impression the club has accepted it will get "no-where near" the 6000 target, despite what is said officially. Apparently, a large number of existing ST holders have failed to renew. When telephoned and politely asked "why not?" the single biggest reason given is "because of the manager".

This is an honest post and the conversation was real, so make of it what you will. Personally, I was very disappointed, as I believe its the team we support, regardless of who is manager, and I hope MM proves them all wrong.

Yes, he must sit in the TE. There isn't any financial incentives to buy a season ticket in the Town End this year.

The theory being that it's cheap enough already (true)  and that people go in the Town End for atmosphere over price.  I guess we'll see if that holds come August.

Well, if that's true, what a bunch of complete and utter wankers (ST holders not club). Hopefully this was a BS excuse when put on the spot, and they will renew when deadline approaches.

If people really think like this then even  I am beginning to think "what's the point" to AF trying to give us a cheaper, better deal.

Maybe it's me, but I go despite us being good, crap or indifferent. IF MM flops I expect him to be on his bike. If he succeeds then brilliant. I want to be there to find out.

The ironic thing is, they will be the first to sing his name if he does get it right on the pitch and hopefully paying full price for the pleasure of it. I really can not understand this attitude of when King goes, when Iffy goes, when the board goes(well that one I can understand), when MM goes, when AF spends 5 million on a player where does it end.  The only sad thing is AF will probably cut back his ambitions for the club as this was an acid test to see if fan base was there or not.

Only sometimes. I swear 80% of fan base is a completely and utterly retarded.

Wont go because of the manager? fuck sake, ok so we had a bad run when he got here - we also had alot of injuries and suspensions. Hell, Malpas even had to play Kaid Mohamad who ranks up there with Ricky Shakes it terms of complete and utter shitness.

We started the season expecting mid table, and we finish the season in mid table. I expect alot of our more brain dead fans believed the adver hype and thought we should have made the play offs

To top it all off Malpas technically bought in two of our best players in January (ok, so Cox wasnt technically a Malpas spot but was signed by him)

We finished off the season quite well playing some good football and scoring alot of goals.

People are fucking idiots.

......I take on fBs point about us not being as bigger club as sometimes we think....but are we SERIOUSLY a worse supported club than Port fucking Vale for fuck sake, really? Port fucking Vale!!!!

Dont get me wrong yes that is a great deal but for the people who want to stay in the Town end its not, they should have had some cheaper season ticket for that stand.

We will have more season ticket holders than last year but i bet you the atmosphere will be awful.

Could be that the non-cheaper townend was to encourage people to get season tickets in the other two stands, allowing them to use the townend as the basis for any promotional stuff next year.

the atmosphere wont change much imo.i expect it to get better in the don now though.

i dont think people should worry about the failure to flog 6000 season tickets.our gates will be good as long as the team is doing well.
many fans who go regulkar wont get season tickets but will still attend a fair amount of games

Did you have a season ticket last season?

Your reason for not renewing is fair enough. If your not likely to be able to make more than 12 games there isnt a point in you getting one....you cant make the games, you're not choosing to not make the games because of the manager.

That doesnt make you one of these fans, whether you're retarded or not is another discussion altogether

I was generally going for the point of view that the retards were the ones who've got season tickets and seem to think that ever other fan has a moral obligation to get one.

It's possible to be a fan and not want to commit to a whole season, cheap tickets or not.

If we reach 6000 great. I'll get a free 1969 shirt which I'll never wear but I'll also get a season ticket for 229 quid.

If we fail to reach 6000 it'll cost me an extra 40 quid, which will still make it 60 quid less than last season, and I won't get a free 1969 shirt which I would never have worn anyway.

People who don't want a season ticket due to not being able to make games due to work etc (Like the retard known as Tans) fair enough.

People who don't want season tickets because they might have something/find something they'd rather do on a match day, fair enough.

People who can't afford a season ticket, fair enough.

People who use the manager/team/colour of seats/quality of food, etc, etc as a reason for not getting one..................................

Only it's not "International English" is it? It's English English. Or more correctly, English.

on the subject of the town end st price it might have been wiser to have had a ticket for say £150 in the first week of the offer.People may have snapped them all up giving all games a decent atmosphere, wich could have benefitted the team.I can,t see much noise being generated between the don rogers and arkells stands.THen again a lot of non st holders may think£15 for the town end on the day is their best option.
