Rubbish game, we never really got got out of first gear, probably because of the state of the pitch.

Hall had some nice touches and looked promising. Barthram ok going forward. The trialist in midfield from finland number 7 looked like a good ball player to me. Storey impressed as well

Devine did not look very good at all. Nor the trailist up front

I'm still not sure what was more bizarre: that a hammer, a proper hammer, was on the pitch or that the grass was so long, it took half an hour - half a fucking hour - to find it.  The real problem though was the bumpy, unpredictable pitch, too dangerous whether for kids or pros: all should have turned round and gone home.

On top of that Banbury were pumped up, piss pot meatheads - which was an issue with the ref dealing with it as a friendly.

So that makes it difficult to assess but anyways:

First half - liked Hall in the middle, Smith offered little at left back, Williams was spectacularly non-existent.  Collins played in the middle with the Finnish triallist, who I'm not sure we'll see again.  Waldron and Francis were wide and bullied, another triallist - Will ? showed some touches up front but no threat.

Second half was tough to keep up with the changes, in truth we were battered with Bedwell making 5/6 saves against our one header, the only effort on target - barely managed any off target either.  Barthram was tidy, Devine rusty, Benson aloof, Massimo flashy, Storey willing but limited, everyone else: small.

At least some of the cavorting cows in the field next to the pitch were enjoying themselves, hopefully by now with all the players gone, they've got their home back.

I bet the Oxford Youth were only there for the BANTS?

Did any of them have a bottle of coke with their name on it?

I see Bristhole Shitty also lost in their pre season game with Clevedon Town 2-1 who are a division lower than Banbury.

You can read nothing into pre season games other than get fitness up and get teamwork together.

Many times we have had shit pre seasons and gone on to do very well in the league and visa versa.

Lets get the team bonding and playing together before we judge too much.

I heard it mentioned again today that we have a friendly at Devizes tomorrow night KO 7pm, someone else said it was only an U18s game. Does anyone know if either team are playing at Devizes tomorrow night? Thank you.
