Title: This is a thread about Telly
Post by: yeo on Friday, December 11, 2009, 00:00:15
I like Telly, its better than the Cinema because its free and you can drink and sit on the sofa in your pants.Actually thinking about it it isnt free at all is it but I still like it best.

Here are some good programs

The Thick of It.
Its the best program on Telly, the 5 Live episode was my favourite but last weeks shocker was... well it was a shocker (in the best possible way)

Gavin and Stacey
I defy anone to say this isnt brilliant,Its all about Bryn really isnt it?

Those are cool programs though,so Id like to chuck some uncool ones in

The Paul O Grady Show.
A gay man who thinks hes a 1930's washer woman wearing a head scarf scrubbing his step.I like him,I like his Doggies and I like the Tea Time nature of the show.

Jermey Kyle

Guilty pleasure? the other day a young girly said about a bloke who may or may not have been her kids father " Of course I love him I have his name tattooed on my twat" All this at 9.45am ,brilliant!!!!!!

Any mention of "The Wire" gets deleted.

I found it boring.

I get fucking sick having to listen to people saying how brill G&S is. Its good but it ain't that good. At best I'd rate it a slightly above average sit com.

Shows like The Thick Of It and Curb Your are a million times wittier, funnier, better and various other positive things ending in er.

I've just got through the first series (well first 6 episodes, I think they were originally 2 series of 3), just about to do the specials, In the Loop, and then the new series. It is really fucking brilliant.

I keep catching bits of this and it seems fun. I guess it's been a bit unfasionable since Horne and Corden's disasterous sketch show but it's something I plan to catch up on

Didn't one of his dogs die recently? Can't say I'm a big fan. Preffered Richard and Judy when it was on. It had more unintentional comedy.

It is fucking brilliant. I love it when someone comes on, acts like an angel "oh it's definitely his child, I'd never sleep with someone else".

"DNA results say he is not the father" Oh dear.

To contribute:

Doctor Who. Can't wait for the Christmas / New Year specials.

House. Burned through the first 5 series in less than a month, now keeping up with the 6th. Great fun.

I still keep up with South Park and Family Guy, but even the former has gotten a bit meh, and the latter was never that good.

The Restaurant is great fun, although I'm already a few episodes behind. Bloody Thursdays.

Everyone loves QI

I love Curb its brilliant though I am quite far behind in it.Im rubbish at quoting and remembering stuff but the one where he accidently called someone a "cunt" in the obitiurary is my favourite.Larry David is a joy.I can like more than 1 thing at a time...I know its crazy!

That was the typo in the obituary episode, one of the best. My other favourite from the earlier series was the baptism one. But nothing beats the latest series, I very nearly died watching the pussy rash episode with the neck brace episode a close second. Definitely the funniest programme on TV, though The Thick Of It is pretty close.

Snooker and Question time

I forgot the Snooker. It's a fucking beautiful game. It's the perfect combination of dexterous skill and the mental ability of something like chess, but with none of that discrete grid board bollocks holding it back.

Chess might well have more possible games than stars in the universe, but the possibilities in snooker are closer to infinite.

Curb is probably my all time fave comedy.
Although the new series has been a bit of a let down.

Gavin and Stacey is funny.
I though i'd be put off it also after that awful sketch show, but I really enjoyed the last episode.

The Thick Of It is the best BBC comedy since The Office.
Brilliant stuff.

Never watched Jeremy Kyle or Paul O'grady though.
I kind of agree about the Wire, twice i've tried getting into it, but I give up after about 3/4 episiodes.

Other TV shows I love, Spooks & Bones.
Bones is similar to CSI but good.

Although i've just watched the latest episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm and though it was brilliant.
The ending was so cringeworthingly funny.

Is cringeworthingly a word?

I'd like Gavin and Stacy more if it didn't have Stacy in it; every other character is brilliant...

Other shows I try not to miss are University Challenge (a testing bit of mental exercise), QI, The Fixer (when it's on), and anything Louis Theroux does. Oh, and anything including Dawn Porter - interesting, and she's a fox.

The West Wing - 1 word for it Class

House - Funny and well worth a watch

Gavin and Stacey - a little bit pants, although I have never really seen more that 1 episode at a time

Dexter - Funny, Dark and you end up rooting for a serial killer to carry on killing.

NCIS / CSI - harmless Yank entertainment.

Dr. Who - I used to hate it, mainly because everyone I know (Yeo) wet there pants over how good it was, but I have actualy seen a few episodes and its not as bad as I though it would be

The Wire - I really liked it until all the media jumped on the bandwagon now its getting a little old (although its first season was very good)

I have just noticed how much American TV I watch - do BBC and ITV actually make decent programmes any more? I supposed Top Gear, but thats had its best days long ago

For anyone who has just started watching The Thick of It and is catching up don't forget to see the two hour long specials they did. Not only are they brilliant but they also exlain moreof the story about how malcolm has stayed in position for so long they also introduce ben swain, baldemort - julius Nicholson and jamie - Malcolm's feral attack dog
as seen in In The Loop.

Oh and Qi and university challenge and We Need Answers.

gavin and stacey barely raises a chuckle from me but it's not bad.benidorm was better.

really looking forward to the only fools and horses spin off that is impending, but expect it might be a let down.
the only comedy to come to close to only fools in recent years has been the royle family

I hadn't heard about that, it looks quite interesting. It can't be worse than The Green Green Grass. That was worse than a fungal infected mouldy maggoty gash, like a poverty stricken Thai prostitute had forced a slab of rotten meat up her fanny for a few quid and forgotten to take it out for several years.

The new season of scrubs (US) is a bit shitty. The new BBC comedy Bog Top gave me a little bit of a chuckle, but it's only because of the immaturity of it - Tony Robinson is in it, nothing like BA though.

I caught a bit of the first episode of that circus thing, thought it was pretty dire. A review I heard said it gets a bit better though, and that it was baffling they started with such a weak episode.

The BBC are desperate for a family friendly comedy to replace My Family. Which I still unfortunately catch from time to time. It thought it was pretty awful anyway, but it's got laughably bad in the way it's dragged on for too many series. Zoë Wanamaker and Robert Lindsay actually refused to do one of the scripts recently because they thought it was so bad.

Tony Robinson is indeed a bit of a legend.

Each to their own...

... but wrong, wrong and wrong.  Gavin and Stacey is fantastically written, well acted and identifies small areas of everyday life and parodies them (e.g. ordering a curry scene, last episode).

Benidorm is one of the worst comedies ever made.

Sounds like Michael McIntyre to me, who polarizes opinions like anything

I've not seen any Gavin and Stacey at all, I have an issue with starting watching programs I've missed the start of. But then again, I watched four series of the Peep Show and laughed once, despite being a fan of Mitchell and Webb, so what do I know?

Can any older members remember a kids programme in the 70's called 'Children of the Stones'?

Weird shit with spooky opening music.

From my childhood, I liked all the old American stuff we used to get in the summer holidays and Saturday mornings (Before beardy twat Edmunds arrived with his shit Swap Shop)

Champion, The Wonder Horse.
Casey Jones.
The Whirleybirds.

The only things I make a point of recording at the moment are:

The Big Bang Theory.
The IT Crowd.
Mock the Week.
The Mentalist.
Spartacus, Blood & Sand.

Used to love Alias with Jennifer Garner playing a spy.It also had one of the greatest starts to a TV programme :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuxrMPpmMy4&feature=related

It was made by the same people who later did Lost, but less complicated.

Current faves are The Unit, 24, The Border, NCIS and Criminal Minds.

Got to agree with the comments of MBB. I did like the Comic Relief special when the boys met up with their idol...and didn't recognize her :

I know they're a bit girly in some respects but i just can't get enough of supernatural and smallville, last series of smallville on currently :(

as mentioned by others i enjoy burn notice and the mentalist, jamies american food revolution (i'm a sucker for cooking shows though), grand designs and tru blood.

not seen any of the recent series of entourage yet but that's great stuff, californication's pretty good too - both have ample servings of hot girls' tits which is a plus

What happened to The Apprentice this year? I know it was delayed due to Sugar's political ties and potential conflict, but it was still supposed to happen. I saw the junior apprentice, but I want the real thang.

Tell you what, Jamie's American Food Revolution is superb (I'm also a sucker for cooking shows) and last nights was properly inspirational. I've no doubt it's been dramatizered (as it's American) but still very good. Oh yeah, Grand Designs another of my favourite shows.

Why do the TV stations have to put all the good stuff on at the same time, ie tonight, when other nights its all crap.

New series of Stargate Universe and Fringe, which is good news. Whilst I think Sky are a bunch of cunts, they do at least show all their US shows within a few days of them airing in the US. Other channels are terrible for this, highlighted by Chuck as the last series has just finished on Living (months behind the US) and now Sky own the channel they're starting the new series within the next week or so.

I just don't get why other channels will wait months to show new episodes, just encourages people to download them.

Fucking pain in the arse them showing all the decent stuff at the same time. Thank god for iPlayer.

I've always thought the +1 channels were a bit random. Might be something to do with the broadcasting costs, plus the channel numbers cost a fair bit on Sky don't they?

I came across this by accident the other week and really like it now.  Quite a simple format, but somehow manages to draw you in and you find yourselves really willing the people along.  The bloke tonight did well, I thought he was foolish to go for the £100K after cocking up in the trial run, but he stormed it.  Don't blame him for not risking it for the £250k though.

Challenge is taking the Channel One slot.

Hopefully Sky 1 will get a bit better now, it's turned to shit over the last year or two. Though maybe it won't as they're launching another premium channel called Sky Atlantic for all the HBO stuff, Mad Men and other top shows.

Supposed to be another series next year. Not sure who will be showing it though, possible that Sky have got it as part of their HBO deal and so taken it away from C4. Definitely one of the funniest shows on TV, everyone should be forced to watch it.

Sadly not. Owning a ticket for the Loop, would be ace, but unfortunately I've only ever kept football memorabilia. I've tried keeping some other stuff, early DC and Marvel comics spring to mind, as well as early gig and festival bits and pieces....but they've invariably got ruined, or lost in transit.

I managed some massive self shit on myself irony this afternoon, by this afternoon I mean yesterday.

Some bloke came round asking if I wanted Sky. He managed to time it just as 'Tasha Yar was about to kick it in TNG episode 'Skin of Evil'. I told the bloke knocking on my door to "fuck off" because "Murdoch is a cunt."

The irony being that CHANNEL ONE is now owned my sky, so I was watching his channel anwyay,  and if I had Sky Plus I could have paused the fucking thing.

I still shouted at him angrily, but the hypocrisy ran through my veins like heroin.
