My 17 year old son used his mums policy to get his own insurance on his mums car for £ 100 a month, that was with Churchill.
Thats what i'm doing at the moment, pay just over £100 a month. If I had my own car with my Mum as a named driver, I still can't find it for less that £2,000.

Is he building up his own no-claims though?

i did for three years, then got my own policy when after i turned 21. i think the NCB is only applicable if you take out the policy with the same company you were a named driver with as opposed to normal where you can transfer them between companies

Semi-related question. I had one years no claims when i scrapped my car in october 2011. When I get a new car, will I have to start building no claims up again from the beginning?

So when I renewed my policy last, july 2011, i've got until july 2013 for it to still be valid?
Looks like I'll be starting from scratch

It's two years from the date your policy ended, October 2011?

Anyone know any insurance companies that will take monthly payments from a 17 year old, or are they all up front?

Just done one for my lad, did pay a couple of hundred up front but being able to pay monthly payments makes it worth it. We used Co-Op.

Still can't get a quote for less than £1600 for a one litre corsa In fact the prices vary daily when I put the info into a comparison site, quite dramatically.

£1,600 is probably about as good as you're ever going to get.
