Glad you're back in the saddle.

So are you confident on the outlook for the industry, Phil?  Personally, I'm wondering whether a period of stagnation (or even moderate falls) when it comes to house prices would be a good thing.  The market seems to be perking up at last, but the last thing we need is for another bubble to inflate and to go through the convulsions of the last few years all over again.  There are signs that the ultra-low interest rates of the last year (which I know have personally benefited from to the tune of £000s) may be doing just that.

Thanks for putting up with my outpourings everyone. Good luck to those still looking.

nice one Batch! was it the one you thought you blew?

i'm finding it thoroughly frustrating lately - there isn't a lack of jobs, i'm just drowned out by a higher volume of better applicants. through a lack of qualifications and big gaps in my employment history due to illness, it all feels utterly hopeless.

Yes the one I thought I blew.

Believe me SY, I have had the feeling of utter hopelessness frequently. I understand that your circumstances are different regarding sickness and qualifications. But you just have to keep at it and try to keep your spirits up. I know from experience it is easier said than done, but keep going at it.

Don't give up - I'm in a similar position. Trying to get a job back in IT but I don't have the certifications or recent experience that others have which makes it very difficult even getting an interview.

I finally got an interview the other day and it was a nightmare, I totally froze to the point where I couldn't understand the words coming out of their mouths and couldn't even remember my own name. First time that has ever happened to me, surprising as I normally interview really well. I haven't actually received the inevitable rejection email / phone call yet which is bizarre.

Do they send e-mails now to confirm/reject?

Thats not good practice surely?

If you apply through an agency you're lucky if you get confirmation of them receiving the application, let alone a rejection if you aren't selected for interview. Some companies do it all through their website and email as well.
