I hope those affected by the recession get work sorted soon. Its a dog eat dog world out there but good times are ahead hopefully.

I am lucky in so much that I have just got a pay rise although it was deferred from april until now. I don't want this to be a dick waving post or anything, but at the minute I am doing ok through the recession although working for a pub company things have slowed down quite a bit. Ie less Christmas bookings etc.

This may be far too soppy/poncy/soft for my fellow hard-nuts on the TEF, but I thought this video was really interesting on career worries and worth ten minutes: http://www.ted.com/talks/alain_de_botton_a_kinder_gentler_philosophy_of_success.html

Good luck, Batch; as you know I have the same thing coming up in November, and I am proper scared. Move home and panic is my most likely at the moment, much to the disappointment of the missus... I predict a shit start to 2010!

Goodbye non-contributory defined benefits pension scheme, hello career average 6% employee contributions at a reduced accrual rate Sad

I got a pay rise the start of the month and I'm being offered shit loads of over time which is great because its extra money and makes up for the money I lose seemingly being on bloody strike all the time.

I had the first when i was in a bank, now i pay into a pension (6.5% every month) but it's still final salary (government one) so i don't mind as i "should" get something out of it at the end.

So why are so many people at RM moaning if they're getting pay rises?

Bit of a bummer.

I blame the Unions. Thatcher got it right smashing them.

Bit of a bummer.

Quite. Works out a 3rd less pension accrual for a 6% pay-cut. I can opt out, but then I'll have no pension provision.
