I got work last week, started Friday night at All Bar One in MK on a trial with a view to a part time position, thankfully I got the job - as I knew I would once I was given the chance to get behind the bar.

Unfortunately as I started on the Saturday evening the boss told me that he had to 'let another membe of staff go' and offered me full-time (which is what I wanted of course), big shame for the other dude but obviously great news for me.

Between returning from France on the 7th of May and now I have spent the last 6 weeks looking for bar work, applying to every bar that I caught whiff of needing staff - the sort of work you can usually find at the drop of a hat.

I didn't apply for anything else as I know there are people out there that in a way need the work more than me - I know I'll be off to France again come November - so didn't apply for anything that would be expecting a greater commitment.

So not sure whether I'll be able to see any STFC games at all this season, my new boss is a football fan so he might be understanding and rota my hours accordingly but if he can't then so be it - I had to 'sign on' for the first time this year and I never want to again, I should be able to support myself, as all of us should, but for the failings of the over-egoed financial sector putting us all in this mess.

Anyway, to summise...  If it took me 6 weeks to find work in a bar as an experienced bar man then I can only wish those of you looking for positions to suit your experience and needs the very best of luck.

All the best to you...

Could always take it somewhere and see if they'll do a trade down i.e. give you a smaller runaround + some cash.

Congrats DRS.

I saw an article this morning that indicated that vacancies in the financial services sector are now on the up (albeit from a low base).  Turning the corner slowly...but it's a long bend.
