Relegation here we come , you mark my words for it !!! , The best striker we ve had in years is going , Just the TWO mediocre signings we ve made so far , compared to other teams in our league . Yeah , still early days , but i bet anymore signings we make are unheard of average-poor players that we normally sign year after year !!. Plus the other two players we were chasing have turned their backs on us !! , Tudor Jones & Robinson . How many more will do the same i wonder ? . Three year plan for us to get to the championship ?? , more like 13 years !! . This club cant attract anyone decent !! . I expect to get slated for this , but there is little over a month left to go , and pre season has started with basically just ONE new face !!! . We need the team to gel now and learn how each other play etc , not days before the kickoff !! . Dont think we have learned from last season !! . Say/think what you like , but mark my word in six months time when we are under achieving and struggling as always with the same shite players as last season then you will know what i mean ! , Dont have any faith for next season , hope im wrong ! ... but i think it will be another struggle !! . Even Fitton isnt willing to go into details about the fee for Cox ! , same old shite , board keeping us in the dark !! .

It was the board that paid for him, if they don't want to let us know the exact amount West Brom paid so what? They've pumped quite a few quid into the club already, a club that is still operating at a loss, that loss being countered by the boards own money.

Have a look at the other clubs in our league and, with a few obvious exceptions, they are all in the same boat as us. The only difference being we just got a cash windfall.

Cox was awesome, but he wanted to go.

Last season was pretty poor, but look at the results towards the end, once DW had made his mark. The players performed for him and will again this season, with a few new faces thrown in. I'm still optimistic we'll have a decent season, but to me that means a top half finish.

I'll stay optimistic.

Hi Looneyboy. Talk about going OTT. I'm sure you're frustrated at the lack of signings like we all are. I for one am also concerned that we could end up with similar players to ones we had last year and struggle. But that doesn't mean to say we will. At least we have a better management/coaching team. We've shown enough ambition in the transfer market with offers but sadly other teams who have more financial clout than us have also been chasing the players we want or at least wanted.

I'd imagine Fitton will give us a bit more info when the deal is actually done. Besides I still don't see where you are coming from there as we already know it's between 2-2.5 million.

complete load of bollocks, most clubs have made the same number or fewer signings.

League 1 transfers always have to wait for money to be spent in the Championship and Prem in order for the clubs at those higher levels to identify players they can allow to move on.

We had to let Cox go, you can act like a spoiled kid and throw those toys about regarding this all you like but the whole point of signing a player of cox's calibre and potential is so that we can make money selling him - we were told this from day one.

The board have been quoted today in the adver that they are awaiting news on bids they have made for players but this just doesn't register with some people.

There are people moaning about Robson going to Carlisle but when Wilson first mentioned him he said that he wasn't his first choice anyway and wasn't sure he could progress beyond his current level - if that's the kind of player Carlisle want then let them, they'll be sitting below us in the table all of next season I think.

Southampton are deep in the shit, and with a point penalty to start with, they can't sighn players because they can't even pay there own at the moment.

Why do you people bother following football?  The percentage of fans that actually get to taste success is really quite low so why put yourself through it if you aren't prepared to be patient?

To be honest, a bit of pressure to sign a few players isnt a bad thing right now.

We do need to get on with it, unearth some gems.

Squad as it stands (with Cox gone) is relegation material.

Our board are far more richer than Huddersfields !! , so why arn t they willing to match or go a bit higher to gain a better quality player than we normally get then ??? . They go on about wanting championship football !! but are not willing to pay better wages to get better quality players to get up the league !! . As i said , come december all you prawn salad munching scarfers will be argueing and bitching amongst yourselves as always about how under par we are performing etc !! , how we should of got some decent players in the summer etc , and i ll come on here and say , ' hey , told you so !! ' .

Because we used to do that and it fucked us up financially. I love our board. Sadly some idiots can't grasp the fact the club is in the best health it's been for years. I think you'll also find we matched both Norwich's and Hudderfield's offers for Robinson and OTJ. It's not as if we're going for freebies. Those 2 clubs gets 5 figure crowds. We don't. So we can't afford them sort of wages. It's reality.

You're either on a wind up or you really are one from the special This Is breed. In any event congratulations. You must be proud.

The Board are making a massive profit on a player they signed for £200k 18 months ago. They've only given permission for WBA to speak to Cox and have stated it'll have to wait for a new manager. Sound to me like they're talking it up and inviting others to join the race.
They've tried to land players for reasonable fees but they've lost out. Its still early days and we aren't so desperate we need to sepnd silly money. Be patient.
We've got Adidas doing our kit and 442 and EA Sports as sponsors.
After the shit we've had on and off the pitch for years, I'm optimistic this season. My expectation is mid table, possibly a Cup run but putting the building blocks in place for 10/11.
The owners made it clear from Day 1 that we would get the club we can afford - thats what we're getting. No problems for me on that score.

So you would have turned Cox away and that Parkin lad a few years ago, both having unspectacular to unknown to us previous records.

I'm pretty sure we've just offered to pay, and had the bids accepted, for 2 players totalling £525kish.  Right or wrong?

On the basis you are not a complete retard, I'll assume you answer correctly and then state that this amount of cash being offered would have been the highest amount in at least 8 years (since Todd's little flurry into the bizarre world of players - strangely the one we spent most on got slated, left us and went on to do pretty well at this level).  That time we couldn't afford it, this time it's calculated it could have been 2 players more than worthy of playing in the top of this league (hence why they went to bigger clubs than us - for now).

I d sign some half decent players with a proven track record at our level .

Hmm, insightful. I'd never thought of that and doubt many others had either. Perhaps you could tell Wilson and our board this?

ambitious swindon ay !!! , enjoy next season . Give it 3 weeks and you spastics will all be on here moaning and groaning !!!!

If you was to kindly provide me with a list of players who s available on transfer then i d quite easily pick out some players !! , im not a manager , so dont know who s available or not . Probably choose much better players than weve got !!! .... you happy with the previous signings then ??

id say the players we have been in for OTJ and Robinson etc shows the ambition and money they are willing to pump in as long as its on the right player, no point throwing money at Robinson to get him to sign because we will undo all the good work thats happened off the pitch over the last year. Im confident that should another Cox come along our board wouldnt hesitate to splash out £200,000-£300,000

Ok, we haven't signed them, but £250k for OTJ and £270k for Robinson proves the board will give Wilson money for the right player.

So you re happy with the one solitary decent signing in five years !!!! , thats gonna get us up the league !!

I'm indifferent to it. You win some you lose some. We're not a big club, we're not stupid with our money, and I enjoy my Football and knowing our club is on a stable footing.

And if i'm honest, all signings excite me, because I know that I know less than anyone who manages us. Well, i say all signings excite me, but that's normally until some miserable cunt infects my happy sheltered little world of optimism.

Good post btw JPC. (That's the first time i've called you that!)

I don't think his lack of a season ticket is of much concern, not compared to his other "issues".  I don't mind people being of a negative frame of mind if that floats their boat, but show some intelligence.

I think it highlights a bit of a catch 22 with the club at the moment, some fans will still not get a season because they don't think what they're paying for is good enough, but without additional fans the club will continue to be a league one club. Of course there will be fans who cannot go through circumstance either and in any case I'm not making this point to prove anyone superior to anyone else.

Without going into the stats our average attendance has been very steady in the last three years. Before I realised this I didn't think we'd really see any improvement until we had another promotion season but when you consider the following:

* In League One there is more potential for bigger away team followings coming to the county ground.
* Our season ticket sales have helped to keep the attendances up, despite struggling down the bottom/under Malpas.

I'm unconvinced any signings, unless a very well known name (unlikely), would boost [season] ticket sales. Performances on the pitch are going to do that. I know it was only league two but we didn't have big names then, we just had the right players to get out of the division. More of the same is needed here, but we just need to play better first and build up from there.

Lets make a deal, we'll not moan if we are bottom - which I imagine will be fairly impossible given Southampton's plight - but that means that you're not allowed to be cheerful and positive if we're in the top 6 by october.  Deal?

Think SY is currently reading the works of Henrik Ibsen.

Ibsen's work was radical for its time, opening the prospect of free thinking on a number of ethical issues...examining the many facades, that lay behind the cloying social mores of late 19th Century Northern Europe.

the reason i said what i did regarding season tickets, was because it has no bearing on what was going on in this thread.
loony boy was making a complete twat of himself, without the need to bring season tickets into it from 4d.
i  get a bit miffed with people who seem to think tehy are superior,or adds weight to an arguement just because they have a season ticket.

Oh I wasn't disagreeing I just thought it linked into some of the arguments about the club progressing.

Or maybe I was disagreeing.

Or maybe I'm now just disagreeing with myself about whether I was disagreeing.

Apart from the bit where he gave the ball straight to simon cox who fed it on a plate for paynter to put us one-up?

I've always concidered him an average player for this level when I've seen him play.  Certainly not Championship standard, and WBA will be looking to go up this term.

But I am sure Roberto may know a bit more about what it takes than me :)

He played for us at Franchise. He defended like a clown.

Got to admit he was their best player at the CG though.

I always considered him to be a good defender in a heading and tackling sense, but had next to no pace and very poor distribution.

Since he's gone to MKFranchise he possibly looks to have improved slightly on his distribution but from what I've seen of the FL highlights, he still gets turned inside out and skinned by pacey strikers each and every week.

As a no-nonsense defender he'd probably do a job at a lower end Championship team, but to even consider him for a Prem/Championship yo-yo club seems utter lunacy to me.

He gifted us 3 points at the concrete bowl this year and looked wank. I wasn't at the home game so can't comment on that, but he's never looked like a top end Championship player and IMO never will. Di Matteo must be mad.
